This was a good refresher as it’s been years since college physics.

Thanks - it was a refresher for us as well. “Knowing” something and being able to say it aloud accurately and succinctly, without it becoming a lengthy lecture, is not simple for me, which made this video all the more fun to make! 73

Illustration & Lecture visages are well integrated. Good job; bounded a leap in my understanding of Radio Waves. Thanks.

Thank you Thadius. This is hopefully just the first of many explorations into the physics. I appreciate you sharing - the more feedback the better! 73 AC3DS

Cool video. I got tinges of using an "Ether" model here... Thanks for the informative videos.

Thanks Wild! We had a lot of fun learning animation in order to create the photons and other objects. Thank you for sharing it with others - even if it helps just one person, it is worth it! Hope to see you in a livestream chat sometime soon. 73.

I have a question for you- I have a new ic7300 and built a simple dipole antenna for 20m. Electrical wire soldiered To a so239. No balun or anything. Just 6 4" coils of coax at the so239. But all I've been able to hear is white noise. I also get evenly spaced verticals on the panadapter regardless of the band or mode. I don't have access to a legitimate HF antenna at this time, so I have no idea if it’s my rig or antenna.

Hi Rulon, good question… a few thoughts. First: if you are getting no signals on any band, I would wager that a connection is bad. Even with a terribly tuned antenna, sitting on the ground, you would still get some reception. I would ignore the verticals on the panadapter until after you have signal elsewhere. The 6 4” coils forms a choke balun, which, even if it wasn’t ideal, shouldn’t hurt the performance. Sometimes the connections we think are solid really aren’t. It happens to all of us. Let me know if you have more details and we can brainstorm solutions.

Missed the mark for me as a Mind Eye Visualization but so have others trying to describe Radio Waves : ( Radio Waves do not behave as expected for me here at home, need to understand how they are interacting with surrounding buildings. In the field all is better even front yard verses back yard is 3 S units better at same elevation just a bit more open in front yard. Back yard faces the city with more 25 feet brick buildings and cluster of Power, Comcast and Telephone wires. : (

I completely understand. Visualizing radio waves, and explaining the underlying nature of what is happening through visuals, isn’t easy. I may have missed the mark this time, but I hope you stick around for future videos - we are going to try some connected topics that may help. Your dilemma of how the radio waves seemingly misbehave is worth exploring as it speaks to a practical reality which we all experience.

You need ti study physics a bit more.

Undoubtedly. The field of study as it relates to radio could be a lifelong pursuit and I’m happy to be at the beginning of the journey. There is such a rich depth of knowledge and I’m fortunate to be learning from so many. Fun times ahead! 73.
