Just realised, for blue origin building a moon lander means they need a whole factory just for it. For starship is just a different variant in the same factory.

If I’m wrong I’m wrong but I think I hear that booster 16 with that American flag over it was the last of the version 1 boosters? Maybe idk because I hear there’s going to be like 25 hot rings jettisoned and that would be a while before the integrated hot stage… unless v2 boosters will use jettisoned hot stage rings?

13:58 I saw a picture of one of the large crates on a truck outside of a factory in Ohio. The factory has a very large vertical axis lathe in its own climate controlled space. It is used to make parts for Blue Origin. Note where the engines mount on a New Glenn booster is a larger diameter than the tank section. I assume these parts transfer the thrust from the engines to the tank walls and are the main structural elements of the bottom of the booster. Both the lathe and the work piece have to be kept at a constant temperature during milling in order to maintain tight tolerances. I have not seen pictures of the parts themselves, only a single picture of a massive crate on a semi.

Blue Origin’s operation philosophy difference with SpaceX is very clearly shown in this episode. They use their money to build out many facilities BEFORE they use them while SpaceX starts operations in temporary facilities, builds new facilities while using the partially completed sections and continues operations in the facilities under construction all the way until everything is completed. SpaceX grows organically and lean while Blue Origin is much less so with their fat wallet available to them.

If going to do thousands of flights and landings a better frame than the single post chopstick Mechazilla needs to be designed and built. A butterfly frame would allow for much more pendulum swing and landing error forgiveness.
