Hi great channel , as I work outside drystone walling in the UK, these hand warmers are great. I just purchased the S-Boston and it gets hot! I also have a zippo 12 hour. Thanks for your video because without it I would not of discovered these great products 😊

The Peacock is way above all others. Heats for 24hrs. Easy to light, extremely economical. Use Zippo liquid.

The Jack Pyke- dont need to buy the sticks! Char or chard wood works really well! I even tried small bits of cow pie in it. The issue is if your fuel is not charred it will smoke and dirty your unit inside with suet . They get warm and you can adjust the heat by lighting it in multiple places. I used a roll of charrcloth An inch and a half long by about 5/8" dia. It heated great for about 40 minutes! Absolutely amazing !

Used to use the charcoal heater on my paper route in the 70's.Yup they smelled pretty strong. If I remember correctly you could purchase them at Kmart for about $5, of course cheaper with a blue light special. I thought those heaters went the way of Kmart until I saw your review. Thanks for the to the point review.

We used to have the Charcoal type when I was in school back in the 80's. i remember you had to keep blowing them to get hot and a teacher caught me and my friend and accused us of doing drugs lol. The 80's England, probably only the teachers did drugs back then.

I have the smaller version of the Peacock and Zippo. The peacock is easier to fill, easier to light and stays hotter longer.. it was also cheaper to buy. Peacock handwarmer has been around since the 1920s, zippo is fairly recent by comparison

Back in the 70s I bought a used hand warmer that came in a green pouch. That thing worked great and I loved it. It eventually disappeared and I think it got stolen. I think it was larger than the big Zippo. Question; Do you have any idea who might have made it?
@1D10CRACY4 жыл бұрын
Not sure, but I did a quick search on eBay for "vintage hand warmer" and a few came up with green bags.

I’ve used the zippo ones. The only problem is that you have to use the felt bag or a really cold hand will extinguish it

It smells a lot less than a liquid fueled hand warmer. I just use charred coals from the fire pit a few chips last for a long time too! Its so small of sent you have to really hold your nose to it to smell anything! And i use cottonwood charcoal!

Can you do a update video with the new electric rechargeable handwarmers on Amazon and Zippo?
@Rime_Di_Michelangelo2 жыл бұрын
The Jack Pyke brand is certainly using an old method. Back in the day in my area, or, well, we can sayin every day we you go back long enough, people without servants, ordinary people, used to put embers or charcoal stones inside brass metalware (or silver if you were a noble family) that looked like a pan, then put that in a corner of the master bedroom and one in the room where the kids slept. Strange but also intriguing to see such an old method looking so fancy now.

You can find a solid fuel hand warmer on Amazon for about $7.50 and only a few $ bucks for a pack of the sold fuels sticks.

I found that charred wood works just fine and no smell. I used a charr cloth roll 1 1/2" x 5/8" and it lasted 40 minutes! Its amazing! But soft not hard wood charcoals work just fine. I used charred cottonwood and a small piece like an inch long lasted for a long time! You can lay several small chunks in the box and add them to the coal as needed. Very very efficient box.

I’m very thinking of getting the Celestron one, for myself because I’m at a cold hockey arena lots. I would use the Celestron one because I think it’s a lot safer, won’t have the Oder, (from what was mentioned in this video). I would buy one for my mother and sister for Christmas and or if I had a girlfriend.

The inventor of the product category, Hakkin, is still the best option. Their model called the "Peacock", came out in 1923 in Japan. The Jon-E, Zippo, and the S-Boston are blatant knockoffs of the Peacock. The Peacock in the size "Baby" is the GOAT hand warmer. Fits anywhere (small & lightweight), heats up instantly, always stays lit, is very very warm, and unbelievably long runtime.

If the S-boston gets very hot, then how do you turn it off with bare hands? Also, can you frequently turn them on and off to save the chemical inside?

Easy, put it in a resealable bag, ideally a mylar bag. Or some kind of tin can similar to an altoid can except bigger. No oxygen = no combustion.
@ravenblanketful6 жыл бұрын
well the charcoal jackpike things are really hard to lit.And when they finally lit they go out and you have to lit it again.
@nattfiol28355 жыл бұрын
Presumably it's because the charcoal attracts moisture. Perhaps storing the sticks with silica gel would help?
@ladeda70335 жыл бұрын
You dont have to use the sticks! Just get some charred wood and put chunks inside your box. I lite mine with the bottom of a soda can thats polished or even a full water bottle. Its very easy to light chard soft woods. Oak is harder because it requires more heat. But charr anything will work!

I like the jack pykes style. I just put a few little pieces of charred wood in it and there is no smell. Even cottonwood char works fantastic and has no noticeable sent! Its amazingly efficient. Forget the sticks make your own just pull some coals out of the camp fire and smother them in a can and you got char for the whole day. Im totally thrilled with the ones ive used. Extremely efficient too. Once i even added a few small chips of a cow pie after it smoked a little it began to glow! And made lasting heat. It dirtied the box a little because it wasnt charred first. But it did work! And could be used in a pinch.

The zippo is burning. Hence lighting it to start it. You can see it glowing.
@1D10CRACY6 күн бұрын
The term burning is a bit obscure for this topic. Nothing in the lighter is on fire, there is no flame. The glowing that you can sometimes see is the catalyst (Platinum) glowing because it is hot.

If your as much of a snowflake as you make yourself out to be ; dont worry about it, you would probably melt under the heat into a puddle of tears and evaporate before any carbon monoxide or dioxide could be detected.
