the roses i used were old style i retired 16 years ago.the old roses rang like a bell when you cut a brick.

i was a bricklayer for 40 years a low handle angle narrow heel 1i inch rose london pattern is perfect.

I bought a 10" london pattern tyzak and absolutely love the thing. It's weighted perfectly and I really like the shape, it's a bit different to the marshaltown london pattern, kinda like a mix between the london and phily of marshaltown in my opinion. But the handle the tyzak isn't as good a quality to the marshaltown, the rubber bumper for tapping brick and block is more a hard plastic and just doesn't last. So I needed up taking a handle from an ald worn down 3411 I had in the shed and put on the tyzak and to be fair it's really done the trick for me I bloody love the thing. And I only bought the tyzak one night for a laugh cos it was only 28 quid and I'd bought a new 3411 london pattern marshaltown 3 weeks prior lol and I haven't bothered with the new marshatown amd don't think I'll buy one again I really do like the tyzak that much now I've swapped handles. Lovely light weight with good flex in the blade I'm well impressed and considering the price difference you can't go wrong. They're a Sheffield based company I think? Sorry if I'm wrong but if they're Sheffield based could they possibly be made from Sheffield steel? But either way now I've swapped handles I really love the tyzak it's shape its balance amd now the marshaltown handle has made it my first choice. 😊

I've been a Mason for 20 years and I've always used a London Pattern trowel the blade got bent on my 11 1/2in Marshalltown that i use to lay block i tried a 11in Philadelphia for 2 days last week and it felt so awkward I had to get a new London pattern trowel this is in America I don't even think my local masonry supply store sells Philadelphia pattern trowels

Once you find what works for you then it's hard to change! At least you can say you gave it a go 😆

W H S , it was said by the old brickies back when i started in the sixties that it meant "work hard n starve " 😂 head down bottom up , all you can expect after years on the trowel is tennis elbow and a bad back, so don't save up for your pension put your money away for visits to the chiropractor!

Marshalltown is made in China Steve. Only a 1,s made in a America is the w rose hand quality trowels.

@@brickbybric I feel the fact there using Chinese steel is really the point the guy was making , or maybe there assembled in China the quality of the mt has definitely declined in the last 20/15 years

Marshalltown all day for longevity, w rose is spot welded at the shank and it will split every time

W.rose trowels are not spot welded they are one piece forged .

@@TheRjw18 w.rose are just about the roughest manufactured un- uniform trowels I’ve come across , and I’m not doubting you had some that split but they are one piece forged and are absolutely not spot welded .

Rose are way better built than a mt everyone in the southeast are swapping over
