Based on the House of Ballads quests, I was always under the impression that the Fae literally relive their lives over and over again. This would tie into the game's idea of "fate" or that this entire thing keeps playing out the same way over and over again, and the Fae remember it through song while the Fateweavers can see glimpses of what happened before. And of course this all changes when the Fateless one is created, as he creates ripples that change the song and confuse the Fae. I realize this is a paradox, but that's the nature of a story involving fate and time, so that was just my vague impression of what was going on.

Playing through it right now and they say they aren't the actual heroes in the "songs" they just keep recreating them to keep the songs alive because their entire culture revolves around them. The king says he's the 6th one with his name

@@I_am_a_cat_ I believe it. I gloss over a lot of superfluous dialogue (which is probably why I'm playing catchup on these videos). But honestly, I find this so much more confusing than cosmic groundhogs day.

@@misturfixit45 The quest that helped me with it the most was the side-quest involving the maid and the troll. You meet a traveler near Shieldring Keep who is trying to procure a beautiful ruby ring. She states that she's trying to take advantage of Fae magic. When something really amazing happens that the Fae want to remember, their magic locks it into a cycle. In effect, the same story will play out again and again. Not necessarily with the same actors, but the core story beats will always be the same. Their way to keep the history alive. If she and the player re-enact enough of the "Ballad of the Maid and the Troll," the magic will force the troll to appear... and it'll have the ring, because it always has the ring in the story. So she pretends to be "the comely maid" of the story, even if she's a bit too lewd for it. The player assumes the role of "the knight," and gathers four antelope heads to place around a pillar as bait for the troll. This compels the Fae magic to manifest the troll, which has the ring... because it must have the ring for the story. Since the Fae loved the heroes of old, they made the House of Ballads. Their magic causes the old stories to play out again and again in much the same way. As long as the actors in the House of Ballads play their roles correctly, the tales re-occur. Fun for all involved... except the villains, who are the only original cast members and are locked into an endless cycle of being axe-murdered. Tirnoch and the Fateless One disrupt the magic behind the tales, causing all the bedlam and chaos in that faction quest-chain. The stories don't play out like they should, to everyone's chagrin. The Fae don't perfectly relive their lives over and over again, so much as adopt their former roles upon being reborn to go through the core story beats again. Even then, some Fae choose to take different roles or do different things to suit their whims (ex: one House of Ballad champion notes that she is the fourth Fae to play her role and that another will take the role after she has grown weary of playing it). What occur over and over are their stories, with different Fae assuming the roles over time. TLDR: yeah, it is kind of confusing. Very endearing, though. 😛I love the moments when the Fae cycles break down, such as when the one Fae bloke in Lorca-Rane realizes that being eaten by sprites is a terrible way to die and promptly ditches his role in the Ballad of Blooming... leaving the other Fae utterly flabbergasted and stuck looking for a replacement actor.

Good job with this series! This is still one of my favorite games, mainly because of the lore/story/world building. Looking forward to more additions to this series!

I kill her every time. The Fae are more respectful of you if you do. I guess I want to be appreciated by somebody, even if they're NPCs. I have done all three options in that final dialogue. Two kill her; the top option makes her the queen.

What game do you plan on diving into when you've completed the Amalur series?
@lordoflore97613 жыл бұрын
Man, I wished I knew. A lot of your bigger games are already taken. Perhaps Dragon’s Dogma or some other underrated RPG. Either way, I’m hoping Amalur still has plenty of life… if they’ll go ahead and give us that DLC!!!

The Fae need to learn to change and not be bound by these roles. Because they take it too far sometimes. That’s why I spared the Maid of Windermere. Which also ended up leading to Harem with Alyn Shir, Brattigan, and the wife of Gravehal Keep.
@donaldlayton4373 жыл бұрын
Harem with Alyn Shir? I'm not sure I know what that means. It's been a long time since I spared the Maid, so I don't remember that happening. There's the persuasion option at the end. Is that what you mean?

Who was King Ysa?
@lordoflore97613 ай бұрын
King Ysa was a legendary Fae king of the Court of Summer, and when Ohn was granted the power of Winter during a passing of the Arcane Veil, it was Ysa who took an Erathi artifact and used it to make peace between the Summer and Winter Courts. Afterwards, both heroes moved beyond the Veil, and the powers of summer and winter would continue to cycle through the seasons. First of all… no Second of all… on that topic: why do Fae make love, as spoken by several lorestones? I mean, they’re simply reborn in Fae cairns and don’t give birth, so why do they procreate if they don’t procreat?
