One of the best interviews I have heard . Ambassador Ahmad is very insightful. Too often the world is seen from the perspective of rivalry hegemony etc. Ambassador's idea that India and China need not be rivals but each will still positive roles to play. If the the Chinese diplomacy has brought about closer relations to former rivals India should be happy to make efforts to solve our problems with China through dialogue and diplomacy. For America hegemony seems to be the only way to control the world. America wants India and China to be rivals and enemies. India should not fall into their trap. India and China are ancient civilizations. They should show the world how countries and neighbours can live in peace and harmony and collaborate with each other to promote each other's good

India should be realistic about its geographical location. Cocking a snook at China and expecting the US to be a great support is a recipe for disaster. With our neighbours we should be generous and supportive to allay their fears of a giant neighbour making life difficult for them. In South Asia, each of our neighbours has a border with us but we sit between all of them. Being accommodative will enhance our standing.

The Saudi-Iran deal should have been India's to close. That did not happen because India is getting too close to America, joining Quad, and following US instructs on Iran, losing Iran's trust, and coming second for Saudi. Mr. Karan Thapar, you are genius no doubt. You want your guest to give you straight answer to your pointed questions and strictly remain limited to the subject you broached. In a discussion it is hardly ever possible. I would request you to let the guest to do justice to the points he is making by letting him clearly explaining things. When you obstruct/intervene impatiently you are not only being unkind to him but also disappoints us viewers. May be you have time constraints. But another genius like you, for example, today's guest who is an expert on west Asia, should have been allowed a little more freedom to express himself. And, forgive me if I am wrong, it is felt that you put your questions to the guest expecting a reply which you have already in your mind, and you become restless when you don't get it straight. All your questions today could have been answered in the same way by any keen observer of China and middle East. What was interesting was how Mr. Talmiz Ahmed analysed it for us with such brilliance. Hope you don't take amiss of my views. The discussion was quite lively and thank you very much.

Well done, Mr. Ahmed, you have told the truth about China's no-threat position. I hope Mr. Modi and his team, Mr. Jaishankar and Mr. Doval play an honest role in mending ties with China post-Glawan. The removal of 370 has led China to react in the Himalayas, a severe error of judgment by MEA Mr. Jaishankar and Mr. Doval, a hot border with China is not in the best interest of India.

Prof. There is a widely accepted view among many nations that the root cause of all conflicts is the US and its corporate greed. One could see how hastily US retreated from Afghanistan once they realised the ground situation getting too hot to handle. Same with Iraq. Their involvement in India has been one of the main reasons that led to Ladakh invasion by PLA and eventual capture of 1000sqkm of Indian territory and 26 / 65 posts across the Ladakh sector. India has faltered as far as its economic growth is concerned. This means, we hardly are able to exert influence globally. Let us not get carried away by the self congratulatory speeches and announcements made in Indian media. They are ONLY meant for domestic consumption. Iran needs weapons and it gets it from Russia. Iran needs investments and that is given by China ( 400 B deal ). Iran needs access to global markets / banking for its trade expansion. Saudi and China can facilitate it. The real problem is for us, Israelis and west who have chosen a path of confrontation with China, Russia, Turkey and Iran. India did some smart moves by buying Russian oil. But that is a drop in the ocean. India's defence / military compulsions led us to engage with Russia. It doesnt show genuine desire to engage with Russia. This aspect is known to Russians and they are playing it safe for the time being because of the Ukr war. As the situation stabilises, Russians will become more active and then India's stance will be questioned. The allignment of China Saudi Iran Turkey Russia is a tectonic shift in geopolitics. India's MEA is busy garnering praises for news bytes released by Loudmouth Jaishankar. We are increasingly getting isolated even within South Asia, thanks to Modi's extreme right and aggressive posturing. Classic example is thay of Bhutan, which has drifted away from us towards China. A drastic change is needed in our foreign policy.

It would have been beneficial for India to have been in reasonable relationship with KSA and IRI , that being said like Mr. Jaishankar has pointed out, that India will seek options benefical for India. USA is India's biggest trading partner but now India is getting oil from Russia at a fair price. So all India needs to ensure is there is no civil unrest and there is high investor confidence and India can still yield power in the region. India is too big to fail/ignore there is a huge market... India would still be good being perfectly neutral.

The issue is of credibility and substance. The current regime of megalomaniacs doesn't know what's foreign policy. China is light years ahead because of long-term vision and planning. Honestly the rise of china was pretty much known and inevitable. India even in its best capacity could not have done much to reduce China's influence. We didn't let down iran it was an obvious move and US(under trump) was aggressive and transactional, USA would have boosted pak further if we hadn't withdrawn from Iran, it was unfortunate but we had to there were no better choice. The biggest point the discussion is missing is about USA under trump vs USA under biden, that changed everything. Trump's policy was clear and to the mark. I feel USA in fact had biggest advantage under Trump in middle East.
