Hey thank you! I made a mistake in my wording. For some reason I didn’t catch that I put “Turkish raiders” in my script in regards to the first monks using the caves. You’re correct that the Ottoman threat came later on. I think in my research it sounds like other brigands were preying on villages in the remote areas. Another monastery called Kipinas in Epirus was built in the side of a sheer cliff and had a draw bridge to keep out brigands also. Thanks for the feedback! Sometimes I miss things haha
