I’m an INFP, but I so relate to the “faking it” thing. A lot of acquaintances probably think I’m an extrovert, especially if they’re introverts. (idk why I start acting like an ENFP around introverts, especially IxTx types, but it’s like I can’t help it or something. My secondary extroverted intuition starts commandeering my personality and idk how to turn it off. It might have something to do with my fear of awkward silences. Lol) But then I need a bunch of time to recharge after acting like an extrovert, and I worry people get offended that I don’t reach out to them because it doesn’t even occur to them that I’m an introvert with impeccable acting skills (apparently) who can’t handle being social 24/7.

This seems to be a common thing when switching between 1st 3rd function loop and 2nd 4th function loop and back. For introverts their 1st and 3rd function are actually the most comfortable to use and when used in an unhealthy way, avoiding the 2nd function can cause a loop that is extremely closed off and internal. When switching to the 2nd 4th extroverted function loop you can gain a burst of energy that can temporarily seem as if you are an extrovert. With Fe being 2nd, it allows an INFJ to be a social "chameleon", however after this state has worn off, the switch back to the 1st and 3rd function loop can cause a mental energy crash in which you are left to processing the gained information and experiences internally.

ENFP here! Married to an ENFP as well. And active in the ENFP community. INFPs typically just "know" that they are an introvert and aren't very likely to question their introversion. On the other hand, ENFPs are fairly likely to question their extroversion. This is due to the fact that Extroverted Intuition can be utilized even without socialization. I think that you're likely an ENFP.
@KotlinTheDev2 жыл бұрын
To answer your question however, introversion / extroversion does exist on a spectrum. And enneagrams are also rather impactful. My wife is an enneagram type 2 sx/so. More than anything, she wants other people to like her. And she's very high extroversion. So, she feels FOMO and wants to always be around other people - making them like her. I am an enneagram type 3w4 so/sp. So, I want to be seen as successful and to be unique. I also have low-ish extroversion. So, I am sort of like an introvert - and don't need very much company. But, my primary function is Extroverted Intuition - which I frequently use alone.

So did I. I always would’ve considered ESFPs the most free-spirited and party-loving. I feel like Frank James should do a video explaining the confusion behind the way he ranks ESFPs and INFJs (which I’m not saying is wrong but might take people by surprise). Also, (especially seeing as Frank James is a tax accountant by day) does anyone know how ENXPs and INFJs do in the accounting/finance world or is it seen as very much a stereotypical ISTX/J kind of job? I feel like a lot of INFJs might study Accounting because of the security/vaguely scientific aesthetics but find it not Fe-oriented enough and end up wishing they would’ve studied medicine or international economics or something instead. And really Accounting’s not the best loop to be stuck in indefinitely when you’re not yet a chartered accountant (assuming that’s what you even want to be) so I’m guessing that adds to the frustration. Again, it would be nice if Frank did a video on this. I imagine he’d be helping out a lot of people, especially seeing as that’s his own day trade.

The thing you’ve got to be mindful of is that extroversion here corresponds more with vis-à-vis social outgoingness than interest in people in a humanitarian interest per-se. The types most interested in people, sociology and humanitarianism tend to be the NF types and ISFJs are almost without peer in terms of overall agreeableness so don’t think Frank James’ description of ExxPs and IxxJs only having “some” interest in the people in their environment at the expense of experience-impressions and the deeper meaning of things implies that the more introverted someone is, the less caring they are. Vis-à-vis social assertiveness alone certainly doesn’t make someone an empath or natural shrink/psychologist. ESTJs, in all their external command, are psychologically-aloof whereas INFPs, for all their deep love and care for humanity, are situationally/contextually aloof. There’s a difference. Being loud and socially-assertive has virtually nothing to do with being interested in people on a deeper level, otherwise ESTJs and ESFPs would be the psychologists, psychiatrists, counsellors/psychotherapists, nurses, dutiful overall caretakers and social campaigners/advocates of this world and not INFJs, ISFJs, INFPs and ENFPs. ExFJs are balanced in that sense but certainly not the first two I mentioned. That’s not what Frank’s getting at.

As an INFP I can be very extroverted with people I know well and trust. When I am around them and strangers are present they often get a surprise when they hear I am actually an introvert. Thus said, I am also the type of person who would rather spend extra 30 minutes in the cold taking the long way home, just to avoid meeting any neighbours. Recently spent 2 weeks in a quarantine in a hotel, totally alone. I was scared before my arrival, because every single person I have talked to or seen on youtube was going crazy from loneliness. However, I ended up having some of the best time of my life, I felt like I could stay there for longer, learnt so much about myself too.

I think it varies person to person even within specific Types. Speaking as a very introverted INTJ, I plan as far ahead as possible to avoid as many people as possible at social functions. I have multiple avenues of escape, both temporary and otherwise set in place so that I can get out if I need it… and I have made deliberate plans that I know will prevent me from accepting social invitations before. “Oh darn! I’m going to be out of town that day!” (Yes. Out of town. As in, I will be 1/2 hour away in the next town over, at the book store.) I used to feel guilty about my introversion, and what I described above would have appalled a much younger me. But I have learned that I have limits, and if I plan carefully, I can still show up when it is important, and my escape strategies are specifically designed to keep from hurting the people I care about. It is not fair to me or them if I allow myself to get burned out.

@@jim88 16personalities is not very accurate and types by only using a extremely simplified version of the Myers-Briggs going off of letter-typing. I've personally gone from infp to isfp to entp over the course of a year and I'm pretty sure it's just a tool for determining what job suits you the best. I recommend you look into the cognitive functions and see which stack applies to you the most. Alternatively, you could take the Mistype Investigator test which, unlike others, actually uses the cognitive functions and to my experience is wildly and consistently accurate. A simpler but less effective method is to just read up on every personality type and to see which stands out to you. Best of luck!

I'd put the order as Fe, Se, Te, Ne, Si, Ni, Fi, Ti: ESFJ ENFJ ESTP ESFP ESTJ ENTJ ENTP ENFP ISFJ ISTJ INFJ INTJ ISFP INFP ISTP INTP Some would argue that Fi is more introverted than Ti, but I think it depends on how mature and fully-developed their cognitive functions are. An IXTP's inferior Fe is like anti-extroversion; however, an IXTP who has developed their inferior Fe is going to be more extroverted than the average IXFP. I would also argue that IXTPs are some of the least-likely to develop their inferior functions.

But strangely enough because according to your ranking I'm the second most introverted type on the scale, when you were describing traits of extroversion at the beginning, a lot of those seemed to apply to me- I'm often very enthusiastic, responsive to positive emotions, excitable, impulsive (well probably because my type is already generally very spontaneous) and expressive/animated (which I think was the word you were looking for at 3:18). At least I am when I'm by myself or interacting through the internet lol😂😅... does that explain it? Cuz I'm a whole different person by myself than I am when I'm around people, and in that case, I fit the description of the IPs pretty completely.

About where I'd thought I'd be as an INTJ. I find that so long as I can process the situation or topic at hand enough to satisfy my Ni, my Te will kick in and allow me to be much more engaging like an extrovert, even if it's for a limited time period. Well, I'm suspicious to say because of all the topics on the channel Educational Sunday is definitely my favorite, but what a good video! And I agree 100% with the rank, I think the logic attributed to the ranking makes a lot of sense. I want to see the most incompatible combinations (not as a rule but as a probability), because in my head although many people suggest that ESTPs are the opposite of INFJs because they have an inverted stack (Se-Ti-Fe-Ni x Ni-Fe-Ti-Se), ISTJs should be our nightmare since our stacks don't match at all (Ni-Fe-Ti-Se x Si-Te-Fi-Ne), but it feels that, in general, ESTJs are the most difficult type to deal as an INFJ, but I don't know exactly how to explain that. All I know is that ESTJs make me feel tense and hyper-conscious all the time, so they are the type that drains me the most.
@Diaming7872 жыл бұрын
Flip the first three letters. Those most conflicting pairs not only have all different functions, but also two stacks away, e.g. ESTJ's Te is first and INFJ's Ti is third, etc. They are different in functions types, different in either you are "self/tribe" or "control/chaos", and different in four temperaments "ST or NF", on top of introversion/extroversion difference.

I have many infp friends ( and myself), they are way more talkative than intp. (It takes a few days for intp to reply to my message but only few seconds for infp......) Perceiving types are more extravert than judging types because they need more information from the outer world. Some people say that introverts must be left and think on their own, for them to work productively. However, that saying actually only fits for ixxj types not ixxp. Ixxp must react with the outer world in order to get information (and to survive), because their perceiving function is extravert.

My teenager was dating an ESXP (my typing, so it's worth not much) and he was the most overwhelmingly extroverted person I've ever met. I took the two of them on an overnight trip to visit a college and he literally did not stop talking from the time we picked him up until we dropped him off, apart from sleeping He was also always chasing new experiences and everything he encountered was "awesome" and "epic". We went to an art museum on the campus and he saw people at a bubble tea place afterward that were also in the museum and he "had to" go up to them and ask them about their impressions of the exhibits. He was fascinating to watch and an extremely nice guy, though extremely overwhelming and 20 minutes with him would leave me feeling like I needed to crawl into a hole for a week to recover. So based on my limited experiences, I'd rank ESXP types really high, at least in terms of their effect on me. I think it's because I'm very quickly overwhelmed by Se.

I'm an ISFP and I agree: I'm very introverted. I had to explain this a long time ago to my extroverted best friend because I almost never call him. He calls me. It isn't because I don't care about him. I'm just not a very social person. I can go for long periods without talking to people. But I value his friendship and I enjoy the times when we talk.

It seems like it varies from person to person of the same type. Because I'm ISFP too, but I'm not that much of an introvert, I'd say I'm close to being ambivert

As an INFJ, I think that why people think that INFJs are the most extroverted introvert , because INFJs tend to give counseling session to people they feel closed to (maybe because of Fe aux). Although, they don’t know how long we have to recharge social battery and that session is made especially for a few of people😌

@🍕__Mulan__🍕 have you ever considered that not every single person in the entire world can fit perfectly into one of the 16 personalities invented by Myers and Briggs? I am telling of my own personal experience and you have no right to tell me that I’m wrong about myself. I have done many of these quizzes over the years and always get INFP, and I don’t identify with ENFP, even if I maybe would rather be one.

@이채연 well, you said "LIKELY". that mean it's just likely, there's just more chance, doesn't mean others didn't. Being more introverted doesn't mean that you have ZERO chance of being an ambivert OR being Extraverted even just a little bit
@CraftyGothMother2 жыл бұрын
After some thought, I think you ranked INFJ appropriately. I think, from personal experience, we like to stay in our lanes (like you said) but we can be easily swayed by other peoples energies. When I am at my most 'extroverted' it is when I am with friends who have that energy that I can 'borrow'. I feel like a leech when I put it like that... :( My point being, that we need 'enabling' (is that the word?) to set our extrovert flag flying and even then it is only temporary. Just my thinking based on my own broken INFJ self Take care xx

INFJs just have this tendency to care about people, due to their altruism and the drive to strive for harmony. Whenever they see troubled people, they step out. That drive makes them extrovertest (huh?) of introvert.

EXXP should be way more extroverted. EXTJ do not even like people all that much, only certain kinds of interactions. Being less spontaneous also means less likely to be involved in "justsocial "stuff.

Yet another INFP here, a lot of friction when actually engaging in stuff, but I wouldn't underestimate that "Once out, they'll never stop talking / showing excitement" part 🤔 Also dominant Fi means we have to rely on our genuine enthusiasm as a fuel in order to do things. Rare, but vital.

IMO, from the most extroverted, to the least: EXFJ ESXP EXTJ ENXP IXFJ ISXP IXTJ INXP
@Paprokh2 жыл бұрын
Well, the argument that the "thinking" types are more or less extroverted seems off for me, I also think that it even shouldn't be divided into ExxJ ExxP IxxJ and IxxP, I think that what determines if a type is higher in extroversion is the ability to use a certain function, and functions especially can be more or less extroverted, like Ne will be the least extroverted function and Se the most extroverted, while Fe and Te will stay in the middle. Also I think it can be a little complicated to rank the types because some introverted functions can also happen to be the deciding factor that may conclude that a one specific type is more introverted even though it can have high Se in function stack (and I talk about ISTPs in this situation), but because of Ti, which will be most introverted function and Si being the most extroverted introverted function, while Fi and Ni stay in the middle, but it isn't really a valid explanation either because sometimes Ti dominant makes a type doesn't really care about people and not really sensitive to what they might think of them, while Fi dominant can cause a type to be more sensitive and avoid conflict which makes them prone to social anxiety. Ni also can be very deep introverted hole that's hard to get out of. Only Si seems really only about getting things organised and structured in "concrete" world, while also being specific about past experiences and memories. Like I mean that Si dominant with Te or Fe aux can come off really extroverted, but when you have Si tertiary and Fi or Ti dominant function Si doesn't really seem so extroverted anymore and can make a type be "lost" in their head especially considering that Ne isn't really focused neither on people neither on experiences and only ideas which can anyway be still in their head but they're more broad in scale. Anyway, even though it's really hard to rank this reliably considering everything I summarised, in my opinion, the ranking should be something like that: 1. ESTP and ESFP (high Se and good Fe or Te) 2. this is complicated -> ENFJ and ENTJ (high Te or Fe and good Se, but high Ni) seems balanced, ESTJ and ESFJ, (high Te or Fe but also good Ne, but high Si) also balanced 3. ENTP and ENFP (most introverted extroverts because of high Ne, while the auxiliary function is introverted Fi or Ti and only the tertiary is really focused on other people Fe or Te) 4. ISFP (highest in extroversion because of Se) 5. ISTJ (auxiliary Te and dominant Si while having his own Fi straight makes quite high in extroversion) 6. ISFJ (Fe is very extroverted, Si is quite balanced and rarely appears introverted, as I said) 7. INFJ (Ni and Ti makes a big introverted hole even though we have auxiliary Fe, also inferior Se makes us low in extroversion) 8. ISTP and INTJ (hard to pick; on one hand ISTPs have Se aux but Ti dom and Ni which can be very introverted and Fe inferior makes low in extroversion, but on the other hand INTJs also have inferior Se and can have Ni-Fi introverted loop quite often despite the Te function) 9. INFP and INTP (lowest in extroversion because Ti and Fi are both quite introverted but also Ne makes a not so big step into extroversion and Si becomes more introverted than in other types example because INFPs and INTPs having Te or Fe inferior makes them more prone to social anxiety, I think)

@@doomer3549 Seeking experiences drive the Se and sometimes these experiences must include other people in it because they are outward focused especially if a type is extroverted, while seeking experiences on their own are inward focused which basically means Si, but I see a good point in that the ESFJs are very extroverted and that really makes me think that ESFJ and ESTJ > ENTJ and ENFJ. But being talkative with people isn't the only trait of extroversion, people can actually seek experiences with other people and that is also an extroversion

@@doomer3549 agree 100%,also secondary Fi is more introverted than second Si

to all y'all like "but i'm super introverted/extroverted" keep in mind he's dealing with the abstracts, not your concrete experience. mbti is a scalar system, so clearly all these should be seen as variable as well. that being said, given your stack and frank's listing, you are *more likely* to behave in the described way (introverted/extroverted). your subjective experiences and preferences can certainly shift this reality, but we're engaging with the concepts first, the people second here.

That goes for the converse but personality types do matter. Your average INFP is obviously going to be a lot more reticent than your average ESFP.

Regarding ESTJ's vs. ESFJ"s, from my observations, ESTJ's definitely are the most take-charge, but they also burn out faster on a daily basis when it comes to socializing . ESFJ's are mellower but have more social stamina. especially when it comes to "pointless" interactions that aren't in service of an obvious goal.
@Anonymous_Anon8822 жыл бұрын
ESTJs are extroverted thinkers primarily in the external realm. In an actual social science (being concurrent introverted sensors and feelers) they may or may not want a more-than-necessary degree of social interaction.

Yep, makes sense to me. Maybe that's why we INFPs have the natural invisibility haha. The Cloverleaf test said I'm 90% introverted. Theatre in high school helped me gain confidence and learn how to be social. And I do like people, but I still have to brace myself for any anticipated social interaction. I'm getting out of my comfort zone even when I just text someone I haven't seen in a while. My inner voice is just really really loud and I spend a lot of time thinking by myself.
