I admire how the Young Penitent was silently listening the whole time, while still given half the screen instead of just a small portion of it. This is proper representation, I like it. I felt like I was there silently listening too.

Thank you! I needed to hear passions are not natural nor part of our soul. May God forgive us and enlighten us so that we can be protected from ourselves.

From dust you were to dust you shall return. Evil is a slow regression back into non existence, which culminates in death.

Elaborate, also what does something culminating in death mean thank you

It means to like end in death. When something culminates in something, all the actions lead to that one thing. Its the final destiny i guess@@ThisHeatOnly

I see, Ive actually considered this idea for a long time and I would take less risk in many things or prevent regrets to say the least. Thank you for your perspective it helped put that together.

Orthodoxy knows what Buddhism has also discovered. Using Buddhist terminology, when the mind first settles in its natural state (shamatha) grasping ceases and, among other things, there is perfect equanimity-what you’re calling dispassion, I believe. Grasping after thoughts of vices such as lust and greed are not, in the Buddhist conception, part of the “natural” state of the mind and are rather the man made sources of our suffering and the means by which we set into motion a series of negative chain reactions of cause and effect leading to further suffering-what is commonly called karma. As in Orthodoxy, eliminating the passions is only the first step toward more meaningful spiritual goals but it is absolutely necessary. I’m just making an observation here to point out how God has seeded truths throughout the world in many social contexts so that all peoples may increase in virtue even when the Word has not yet reached them. However, I believe it is also true that the extraordinary effort that Buddhist monastics have made over 2500 years to develop finely honed techniques for settling the mind in its natural state of shamatha should be more closely studied by Christians and adapted to Christian purposes. The Desert Fathers clearly were using related techniques and you find the same in people like Teresa of Avila-but with fewer explicit instructions on technique.

The biblical term for the passions is called the sinful nature the flesh…..which we acquired from our first human parents…Adam and Eve…..go to the Scriptures there you will find a most adequate definition for the passions Galatians and Romans good place to start

The Likeness, I vaguely remember reading from the books from Metropolitan Heirotheos. The Likeness is the operation of the Image. I think this is synergy of man, life of repentance unto The Lord Jesus Christ, receiving the Grace of the Holy Spirt. Someone here on this broadcast can help out if one wants to.

Is the desire for food, or a woman and etc, not created by God? I thought the passions are when the natural faculties of the body become idols and/or are misused.
@fansofst.maximustheconfess8226
@fansofst.maximustheconfess8226 10 ай бұрын
Yes, but these faculties are to be regulated by the Lógos, i.e. our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ - that is the key here! Our will is fallen and thus got sick, and we live in a fallen world after all. Nothing that is in fact unregulated "natural" to this fallen world is natural at all. Instead, we are specfically called to /not/ be of this world. I mean, didn't you listen to this excerpt?
