I have a fairly large collection of diecast cars, primarily 1:18 scale. Exoto has some of the best detailed models in this scale but there reputation for customer service is a bit questionable. I have about 26 CMC cars and overall, like them the best for detail, accuracy and fit and finish quality. I have a couple of BBR models that are also finely made. My current builds are Agora 1:8 scale 427 Cobra S/C and a Mercedes W196R. Both kits are very well made and finished. The only thing I really dislike is the incredibly fake sounding engines and horn - they belong in a kid's toy car, NOT high end models such as these! I wasn't interested in composite body models at first as they had no opening features. I changed my mind quickly when I purchased the 1:18 Autoart Aston Martin Vantage with opening hood, trunk, and doors. It has very nice details and even the steering is functional. The brake discs are finely detailed as are the calipers. Paint quality is excellent and body panels line up perfectly along the doors, trunk and hood. A great model, especially for the reasonable price! I have a few 1:12 Tamiya Collectors Edition cars that all have typical Tamiya high grade finish and details.! Never had a bad Tamiya kit in any scale.

Hi thanks for the comment I would suggest brands like HotWheels/elite, Maisto, and potentially AUTOart millennial models they are all fully opening models and those brands cover the supercars your looking to collect without spending lots of money then if you want to grow your collection and enjoy the hobby you could try BBR/ MR AUTOart signature and lcd models that’s what I did 👍 please subscribe for more videos to come soon thanks

Spark also a very good brand when it comes to Porsche high end resin models. Bit cheaper as BBR but also very good quality. Minichamps has recently cooperated with Porsche and made 911 GT3 Touring painted in original Porsche colors. Just got the dark metallic green/turquoise with the neodyme wheels and decal and i gotta say that paintjob tops every paint i ever saw on other model cars hands down.

I have all the CMC Ferraris and few other brands. I wholeheartedly disagree with your statement. Some CMC models are very wrong and just don't have that "real look". Their racing Aston Martins are a perfect example. They are the epitome of the saying "an object is greater than the sum of its parts." I don't care how many wires and how many different metal you packed under the hood of that 250 GTO, when its overall shape is completely wrong.

GT Spirit and Otto are easily the best for what you can get for 99€ and 69-79€. GT Spirit Koenigseggs for €99 are one of the best things happening to this hobby Also GT Spirit and Otto models usually sells out completely and appreciates in value very fast. I have missed many GT Spirit and Otto from few years, that I would like to add to the collection. Top Marques, Tecnomodel and Spark is in that 150-250€ that I can still see myself paying the models I want. Like Looksmart Formula 1 Ferraris MR, BBR Peako and other that are priced 400€ and (+Amalgam for €1000) is just pure nonsense and stupid to pay that amount on sealed model. On 1:18 models everything should be able to be opened. CMC is still the King

Resin model cars are NOT die cast. And it has nothing to do with material (metal/plastic). ABS plastic AutoArt models ARE die cast models, because they are cast in a die. Resin models are cold poured in a silicon mold and are not cast in a die. Saying that BBR has a nigh quality control is a joke. Their quality control is ridiculously bellow par. And stop inflating prices in order to toot your horn. BBR models are 300 bucks all day long, any day on their own online store. Some AutoArt models are easily available online from variety of sellers for half the prices mentioned in this video. This kind of passive boasting about the money investing in your collection does nothing but lead to higher asking prices. In other words every time you boast about an inflated price you are shooting yourself in the foot. Amalgam models are targeting a particular demographic, which is kinda outside the "model collecting bunch". They are definitely not that superior and in many cases flawed and not that accurate. A CMC model and in many cases AA are actually better options than Amalgam. Please stop the snobbism. All brands have made some pretty mediocre crap and same way all of them have their gems. Qualifying models by brands and then qualifying brands by price is the dumbest thing one can do in the model car hobby.

Hi thanks for your feedback I can only speak from my experiences dealing with BBR over the last 10ish year and after about 14 models I’ve not had any issues or defects with the models and if I did I would of done a video on it for example when BBR started re-releasing their resin models in fully opening models spilt opinions most of my BBR models are bought a long time ago. I agree some AUTOart models you can get easily online or eBay but for the big flagship models they are rare for great condition (box, coa, etc) and still expensive I don’t mean to come off boasting and apologies if I have but I’m honest and bought the vast majority of my collection when prices weren’t very expensive and fortunately the prices for some models have gone through the roof and some have fallen but I’ve never sold my AUTOart or resin models and never will do it doesn’t matter to me but I mention prices for other collectors who ask. I also agree amalgam is targeting a totally different demographic and even though I’ve never owned one I’ve heard their models are in a different league however I do hope to add a 1/18 one to the collection and do some comparisons 👍
@Michael-b1f4v
@Michael-b1f4v 4 ай бұрын
@@CarsWithHNK I'll try to address the issues in order you replied. BBR's quality has never been perfect in any shape or form. Both in levels of accuracy and execution. They have made some incredible models and they have made some duds. I have a very rare SP1 model by them that is long discontinued. Its interior does not hold a candle to a Mattel Elite model and neither does the engine. It came with few issues that were definitely factory missed QC. It is not an exception with their models. Parts coming unglued, entire bodies cracking, defects in their paint application and probably the most common - glue residue in black photo etched grilles and polishing compound dried up in the panel gaps. Their first opening (die cast) models were made by Kyosho and only sold under the BBR license. They were great, but BBR had nothing to do with their making. Still that Enzo's carbon decal application was attrocious and the sizes and shapes of its wheels/tires comical. Their new line, starting with the F12 TDF is at Minicamp's level with some nicer decals. The QC issues they've had with their opening LaFerraris, both closed and open versions have been so numerous and well documented online, that BBR themselves issued an apology for delays to customers with preorders, saying that the actual manufacturer in China is not meeting their quality expectations. Don't even get me started with their gimmick with "limited" edition, which "sell out" and then next season a new "limited edition" of the exact same model is available for preorder and then again sells out... Their customer service, which consists of Barbara - the owner's wife, who also runs the online shop as her own side hustle, is not even worth commenting. Rude is an understatement. AutoArt models, not talking about Zonda Rs from 20 years ago offered by scalpers, are offered by numerous sellers, resellers and distributors online at significantly lower prices than some stores in Europe (let's not mention CK in Germany) for example charge for their fresh offerings. Check Diecastmodelswholesale.com for example or minineopet on eBay. Even with the shipping from across the pond you are still making significant savings. And I am pointing all this out not because of your collection, but exactly because of other collectors, who should have proper expectations and being able to recognize when their "local shop" is ripping them off. AutoArt Pagani Huayra BC was under $300US in all colors for months from a variety of sellers. The blue one is still all over the place under the 300 mark. Everyone can go on BBR's site bbrmodelstore.it and create an account FOR FREE, to buy and preorder models direct from them. It's a point system, which allows you to earn discounts after certain amount of purchases. The lowest is 10% and earlier notifications, which gives you the opportunity to get all their latest and greatest in 1/18 for about 300 Euros. And my last two models from them came with major defects, followed by the worst customer service from anyone, ever. Amalgam models are just another brand. A very grossly overpriced one at that. For their price they should be blowing CMC models out of the water and AA or Almost Real models for $300 should not even be in the race. Yet they in some cases they just keep up. At best. But they have always been catering to the owners of the real subjects they represent. And I did not see anything about LCD, who are wild card. Their Huayra Roadster can not compete with its AutoArt rival at all. Yet they could be found for pretty much the same price. Their Huayra Roadster BC naturally inherits all the issues from the model it is based on. Meanwhile their Zonda Barcheta HP is fantastic, as are their McLarens. The point I was trying to make is that making a list of "the best brands to buy" is kinda pointless and in a sense misleading, especially for newbies in the hobby. There are some models that will absolutely surprise you. Like some of the Mattel Elite Ferraris, which can still be found for rather cheap prices and will absolutely destroy some models five times their price. You just have to get past the thought that they were made by the Barbie makers. I will challenge anyone to find me a better model than Mattel Elite's Ferrari 458 GT2 for the same price. Even their 348, 355, 458 Italia models which are still available for about 100 bucks, put to shame most Minichamps, Kyosho and numerous resins to shame. Have you checked out the latest Bburago Sp3 Daytona from their signature series? And then there is "the China Market" one, with the photo etched front grille and the fancy box. Forget about the brand for a second and just look at the model and what you are getting for under 100 Euros. It is a fantastic model. And as far as value per pound goes, it beats Amalgam any day. Kyosho's 250 GTO is better than the CMC. Woaaa...! Yeah, I said it. Because it has more accurate shape and more authentic period correct feel to it. but then we ask, how do we judge models? Because different people will prioritize different aspects of the same model. So how can we pick the best five brands, then? We can't. Because every person's criteria would be different. Material, subject matter, availability, functionality, color options, customer service, price, detail, presence and even weight (absurd, I know) matter to a different degree for each individual collector. So I say - show models, be objective, get people in love with models, spread the word and help the hobby grow. Who cares who made the model if it ticks all the right boxes. This became a fracking novel, so I'll wrap it up by saying that one of my favorite models in my collection is not the most expensive or the most detailed or even the best quality. It is a Lotec Sirius in 1/18. And the best part? I have no idea who made it. It does not say anywhere on the box or the model. It's a no brand item. And I love it.
