Okay, if you want f/f dating sims, I have an app for you: Lovestruck. It’s by Voltage USA and they do a bunch of original English language otome games on this app and usually have several each week updating (for example, this week gave us 5 different female LIs with active stories! Sometimes, it is as little as 2 tho). Every MC is bisexual, some of the male LIs are bi or pan, and they even have 2 nonbinary dating options! My personal favorites in the app are Love and Legends (a girl from Chicago gets transported to a Fantasy land; gives me my ultimate favorite, Helena Klein, as well as my magical girl wife, Altea Bellerose), Villainous Nights (basically a group of heroes has to take down an evil corporation that presents itself as good for the world while commuting nefarious acts behind closed doors; my favorite is Renzei Feng, king of all glorious asses in the tradition of Nightwing); and Sweet Enchantments (favorite there is Liora Skyheart, the boss of the titular cafe where she practices rehabilitative justice with her employees). The only thing I do mention is, bc it’s a mobile game, it does do the freemium thing where you have to wait for tickets to regenerate and you can only hold onto two at a time. Also, there are Heart options which, if you aren’t patient, you can buy Hearts to do extra stuff. Tho they do cause paywall situations for a few CGs and sometimes ALL CGs in the case of one of the stories, Speakeasy Tonight (which is a crying shame bc Sofia is a delight ;; ). I find it worth it for most of them, but I am also biased toward an app that gives me lots of queer options. :D Just uh. Don’t call the queer routes yuri where the fandom can hear you, we have a lot of assholes.

Phenomenally scripted and informational video. I resent a little that you prefer DDLC to Katawa Shoujo though. That's the gold standard of western work for me. Umineko is probably also my all-time favorite piece of fiction period in any medium, so I try to pretend the adaptation doesn't exist whenever possible.

Visual novels are actually one of my favorite form of entertainment medium. A good visual novel not only tells a story through words, but also gives you something a book never could, images and voices (generally) to go along with it's text. There are plenty of visual novels that, when boiled down to raw text, would equal massive 1000+ page novels... and that's not even including all of the description that a novel would go into to show it's characters, environments and the emotional impact of events and dialogue. They are a combination of all of the elements that makes both novels and video (anime in this case) popular... with the depth of writing of a novel combined with the visual presentation and voiced dialogue (with all of it's accompanying emotion) of video. Also, for the people who have the stigma that "all visual novels are porn", that's just not true. There are plenty of visual novels made from the ground up to be all-ages or 15+ at most (teenage romance sorts of things), just that 18+ is a viable choice for the medium. And having sex in them doesn't make them any less of an amazing reading experience either, just look at how many mainstream and popular novels have pretty explicitly described sex in them. I honestly have too many favorites to name just one, but I will at least name the visual novel that started me out as a fan, a story called Crescendo released in English by JAST USA.

@@goaliemaniac21 Probably due to the fact that Muv Luv is a slow burner, a really slow burner. The pay off is in Alternative and that alone is 50 hours plus worth or reading. I assume the majority of people don't want to commit such effort. But hell when Alternative kicks in, it kick so hard and beyond. I still feel it to this day.

a visual novel is more like a video game in most contexts, though there’s still a ton of reading involved as if it were a book or novel. Characters are usually represented with sprites with text displayed in a text box, and there’s backgrounds and music, and sometimes voice overs depending on the budget for the game. There’s a pretty wide variety of visual novels out there including ones with branching choices and other gameplay elements like puzzle solving.

If I may suggest a new "Why, Anime?" episode. I've been curious about the origin of why so many characters in anime have "catchphrases", so to speak. While catchphrases are not a uniquely Japanese thing, how they go about it I think is. There are so many characters in anime where at the end of every sentence or every other sentence they say their catchphrase almost like its some ritualistic nervous tick. Dattebayo, Kuma, Pon, the list goes on. When licenser's create subs/dubs for a western audience, we often make fun of these "catchphrases" and many people find them immensely annoying. I think an episode explaining the cultural reasoning for this choice and perhaps the meaning or context of some of these phrases will help us western viewers. Weather or not it will help us gain a new appreciation or ignite a deeper hatred is up to whatever the purpose/meanings actually are. Anyway, keep up the good work guys!

Its basically the game werewolf with a small town in the middle of nowhere dedicating each sacrifice to their local god...but there is so much more going on basically I recommend this one (and am looking for more recommendations!)

Ngl,I wasn't an Anime watcher 2 months back. But one of my friend gave me Your Lie in April to watch and I was just hooked. He gave me Steins Gate next and it is the best thing I've ever seen till date in any form of of media. Watched it's 1st and 0th season in 3 days along with all the movies. Next I was just casually searching more about the anime on KZbin and bumped into VNs of Steins Gate. They were great imo and provided better character development than anime. I was comfortable in watching VNs as I love books in real life.

VNs are the best form of media. It takes best portions and mixes them togeter. They are books with visuals\animation and sounds that help you immerse yourself. If only this was all, right? VN also give you ability to interact with the story trough decisions and\or gameplay. Lots of vns have rpg, strategy or even action gameplay section in them. That turns vns into the most rich and yet interactive form of media

Pretty sure the term "sound novel" was coined by 07th Expansion (the creator of the Higurashi and Umineko When they cry series), not by Spike Chunsoft. If you listen to the music from Umineko, you'll get why - a lot of the atmosphere comes not from the visuals, but from the chilling/epic/uplifting tracks.

Randomly ran into this video the day after I finished playing Clannad. From the title, I expected to see another "Durr Durr Visual Novels are all Hentais games just go watch the Anime", but I was honestly bluffed by the content. This was a great video, great explanations and a great attention to details. Very good job !
