Buying 1965 Topps Carlton & 1967 Seaver rookie cards with my dad at the 1988 National. I was 2 years old. 2 great cards. Condition was “near mint” to Nr-Mt to Mt” each. My dad paid & I worked off the money over the next year doing chores around the house Only downside (in hindsight) was I passed up on a 1952 Topps Willie Mays also in the same condition w/ the dealer.

For me it was a recent purchase, also from Brian. I’m not sure if I’ve ever mentioned this to you, but I’m a 1972 super-collector. It was the first vintage set I ever completed, and my favorite from the entire vintage era. I like to collect ‘72 Topps rarities and anything related to the set, so this includes OPC, test proofs/progressives, funky miscuts and misprints, autographs (it all started way back in 1991 when Tommie Agee signed his ‘72 Topps for me), cloth proofs, etc. So recently Brian sold me a lot of 36 1972-73 Venezuelan Winter League stickers at a great price. The design mimics ‘72 Topps and they’re just wonderful. I like how there are MLB players in set who were playing winter ball in the off-season, undoubtedly for the extra money and to stay in shape. The lot included Bill “The Spaceman” Lee, the then-Red Sox starter who is shown on his Venezuelan sticker on deck swinging a bat! Oddly enough, this sticker has never been recorded on the trading card database page for Bill Lee (the slot is there, but no image), and I cannot find it anywhere online. So at some point I need to upload onto the database. It’s not in great shape, but it’s a missing piece. Anyway, off the top of my head, this was a recent card show purchase where I walked away feeling really good about it. Brian is great - looking forward to doing business with him again in the future. His stuff is amazing.

That is awesome! This was with B-Roth?

@mipierno 26 күн бұрын
@@SammyThunder no, B-Roth’s cool too, but I meant Brian Fish (not sure if I’m spelling that correctly), the same dealer you picked up the ‘67 Mays Venny from. Beautiful card. What made the deal fun was that it was completely out of the blue. I didn’t go to the show in search of 72-73 Venezuela stickers, in fact they weren’t anywhere on my radar, but Brian had them and he made me an offer I couldn’t pass up. They’re 1972 Topps-adjacent, so they fit in well with my collection.

Hi Sammy. I always enjoy hearing everyone`s opinions and experiences for buying cards. I feel hearing these, could help us all in future purchases. Thanks for sharing my friend. As for one of my best purchasing experiences, you probably guessed it, was my 1949 Leaf Jackie Robinson, at the 2023 Strongsville show. I picked this one purchase, over many others because of how I was able to enjoy the moment, with so many new friends from this wonderful community. The process of purchasing this incredible card was over an hour long, that also included a phone call and a thumbs up from my wife. The dealer (Steve Winnick), was super nice and he worked with me to get it down to a price, we were both happy with. I believe, everyone I got to share this card with that weekend, felt how much it meant to me. It was a special pickup and an even better feeling to share it with the cardmunity. We have an incredible group and I feel very thankful to be a part of it. Thanks for all you do Sammy, talk soon pal.

I'll never forget you running up to me at Strongsville with a HUGE smile on your face sharing this exact story. That is a community moment that will never leave from my memory.

Great conversation Sammy! It’s good to hear different points of views from others. I also believe it depends on the card you are buying.

Hey man, thanks for sharing my comment from the previous video. It’s funny to look back on it now after Shriners, because the situation I described about holding the card in your hand and not walking away from it is kind of exactly what happened with the Plank card I bought at the show from Stan Loch. If you want it, you want it.

Hi Sammy. I enjoyed this video. I picked up a Roberto Clemente 71 Topps at the National in a PSA 4. The dealer had it priced at $175.00. We talked about cards and collecting for about 5 minutes or so. I asked at that point if he would take $150.00 and he said that he would. It's a great looking card and I was really happy with the purchase. I think when you engage the dealer and have a conversation, this can help you get a better deal, just a thought.

Sammy, I have a quick question for you unrelated to this about a card that you had. Not sure how to contact you directly. The T206 Mathewson portrait that you got at the National this year, did you trade that? If so, do you know if the other collector is selling it? Thanks.
