I don't think that the problem is that the arcs are too long. I think that the problem is that there are too many "filler" arcs. Each arc has a great story, but the arcs aren't connected to each other. If the filler arcs that aren't connected to the main arcs with Sigurd and Basim were the side quests instead of the hundred forgettable world events, the game would be much better. If the world events would become like random events that you don't have to do all of them for 100% it would also be better.

I say it here and now. Kjotve should've survived beyond the prologue and be the main villain of the game due to his connection to Eivor. I mean Eivor hated Kjotve so much. Plus he was a member of the order of ancients. Kjotve could've made for a great villain. Ruthless, ragefull and pure evil that's what he was. And we kill him before the real story even begins. Plus ngl Norway was in my opinion a more interesting setting than England. I feel like the area where Valhalla lacked was the villain. Spoiler alert........ Alfred of Wessex wasn't even really a villain he felt way too similiar to Aspasia in terms of both role and looks weirdly enough. And Basim was kind of confusing you wouldn't understand it unless you played the Asgard side quest. Had Kjotve be the main villain would be interesting. During the story Eivor learns more and more. Odin tries to make her a bad person every time he influences Eivor it's in a bad way. It would be interesting that Eivor learns and grows to the point were she looks beyond her hatred for Kjotve. In the end Odin would try and influence her to kill Kjotve and in a way become the new Kjotve. But she'd refuse. Instead choosing to spare Kjotve. Giving Eivor a character arc.

Another callback to AC1 that a lot of people miss is the cities' assassinations: The 3 London's assassinations are similar to the 3 Acre's assassinations. Might be an unpopular opinion but Eivor betraying Odin during the fake Valhalla section is easily my top 3 most powerful scenes in Assassin's Creed series. Eivor bear a hatred for their father for being weak, for betraying the Norse ideology of never dropping your axe, give away your will to anything but a battle. Yet in the end, Eivor realized that being strong, true glory isn't about brute force, blood and brutality. It's about knowing to protect what you truly love and care about which are family and friends. To finally returns to the real glory they had found in their long journey, Eivor had to mirror their action which their father enacted decades ago to protect Eivor and the Raven clan, dropping the very same axe.

Whenever I see Rebecca and Shaun nowadays, I just get sad. These characters' existences just remind me of the Desmond Miles era. Remember the Desmond era when we thought the modern story was leading up to something big? The end of the world in 2012? Nah, Desmond just dies, the world is saved but the conflict with the Templars continues in limbo. Ubi hadn't had a plan for the future story since. Constantly reminding us of the time when it became clear to us that they were just making up the AC future arc as they make a new game with no long-term plan is a decision they will regret, I think.

I love Valhalla, My favourite 3 things 1: The infinite super speed, (get a certain perk and keep left hand empty, every time the ability ends you have a few seconds to use it again for free, Medieval speedster I call it.) 2: I often visit the old man with dementia, and pretend I am rose to give him company. 3: And using a tech to get infinite hugr, rations and abilities in svartalfhiem. There is an upgrade for hugr rip that takes half health to refill hugr and a rune that gives rations when you gain hugr, chain the buffs for unlimited power.

Social stealth is another thing I'll give it credit for since that was largely absent in Origins and Odyssey. I liked being able to manually put on Eivor's hood and cloak to blend in in hostile areas. The DLC was pretty good, too: Siege of Paris especially for bringing back the black box assassinations, and Tombs of the Fallen was the closest thing to the tombs and puzzles in the Ezio trilogy.
@Mikebus585-nt6yy
@Mikebus585-nt6yy Ай бұрын
Even if you put a hood on in distrust areas in Valhalla, the guard will still attack you even if you try to ignore and walk past them. At the end of the day, you have to find another route to avoid the guards. So really what’s the point of social stealth, or at least the existence of hood in Valhalla? Also, the absent of social stealth in Odyssey doesn’t matter since Kassandra is literally a demigod dealing 2 billion damage(this is not a joke, this is a four months old glitch)and slaying any one that dares to stand in her way anyway so I don’t really get your point 🤔

I know this part of the storyline is a big hit or miss, but I love that we get to explore even more of the Isu characters, history, culture and life. It was a big part of why I loved Odyssey and Fate of the Atlantis, and I really loved the parallels to past Isu. It took me a while but I was blown away by the fact that Suttungr is Jupiter, Angrboda is Aletheia, Gunlodr is Minerva and Hyrrokin is Juno. It sheds a new light on all their motives and interactions throughout the game when you know this, and I'd love to see the whole Asgard/Jotunheim/Svartalfheim arc without the Norse mythology elements, like we can see in the secret cutscene.

I have to say, while the combat in previous AC games have varied wildly in quality, Valhalla does it better than any other game in my opinion. The sheer variety with weapons and abilities allows for build crafting not possible in any other game, especially outside of the RPG trilogy. I also love the way Valhalla handled side quests, or world events as the game calls them. They're so unique from any other side quest system in any AC game, they feel a lot more natural than walking up to an NPC and they tell you their problem.

@koyrion to give an objective viewpoint; I don't think the story is as long as one would think. If you were to put it in terms of your favorite show, you can binge watch your favorite show, and each area of the game was its own mini "season" of the show. Plus the game came out at the perfect time, with Covid, people weren't able to leave. So personally for me I love the fact that there was lots of content. It was perfect for an introvert like me.

I’m a big fan of your take. There’s something to love about every AC game. My big problem with Valhalla is the story overall. After I finished the game, I was trying to understand what the point really was of Eivors journey besides pacifying England and growing her clan. I would’ve been much happier if they wrote it like black flag to have Eivor eventually join the hidden ones. Especially after the siege of Paris. I almost thought Eivor was going to join.

I both like and don't like just the insane amount of content crammed into this game now after all of the DLC. The problem really is that Ubisoft took the idea of "open world" quite literally. This game is not good for those who are accustomed to a well-curated story path that, despite the illusion of choices and multiple directions, still ties everything to an anchor point. This is probably the only game outside of the original Fallout 76 that made me feel the open world as literally as an open world is (meaning, not just for the sake of exploration but the weight and anxiety of it). One may remember that Mirage started as a DLC for this already humongous game. They probably realized how huge this game was already. I'd still rate this no. 2 with Odyssey as my no. 1 and Origins no. 3.

On the Gear System: I felt no reason to swap armour gear. I took a set you can get in Norway from start to finish of the base game and the two first year DLCs, the only reason I upgraded a second set was so my Havi wasn't wearing the same set as Evior so I didn't need to go to a blacksmith every time to make them wear different items. I liked the variety in weapons and upgraded a light shield, and war Axe (literally the first axe you get), a dagger, a Sycle and a 1handed sword as I liked how they all felt in combat, I mainly focused on a Hunting bow but had all 3 types have one almost upto date as I would swap bow when out of ammo. All the weapons tended to be the first one I got as the slight modifiers were out weighed damage loss and the grind to get it back upto scratch. Odyssey on the other hand had the benefit that any new Items were of an up to date level so very rarely did I keep hold of an item unless it's modifiers were insane in which case it was worth the grind to upgrade. only when I hit mastery levels did I finally start upgrading all the kit to play with and start to feel new items were useless. Only reason I upgrade other armour sets quality in Vallhalla is to unlock the higher tier cosmetics

Personally, I liked Valhalla much more than the Ezio Trilogy I played just one year before as a remastered Version on the PS4. The games with Ezio were great at their time, but nowadays they are just ok and not a big pleasure to play. The early ganeplay is just boring and sometimes annoying and it's always the same. AC 2 and Brotherhood have an interesting story anyway. The side quests are boring, annoying and shitty. The optional targets unessessary and annoying. Valhalla had a lot of variation, an amazing open world and gameplay, so it's not that bad that the story is very long. Just the riddles are a little bit too repetitive sometimes, but that's ok. I'm happy for Ubisoft that they made a great success with that game, their biggest so far I guess. Btw I love AC Origins and AC Odyssey!

To me, there are 3 games, that are very loosely connected, in Valhalla: 1. England story 2. Hunting down the Order members 3. Being reborn "Norse god"/ Isu/ modern day Basically, when you rescue Sigurd, he just waits around until you have almost finished the England story. There was one interaction from Sigurd between rescuing him and returning to Norway. The whole game could have been just hunting down and getting rid of Order from England while reestablishing the Hidden One's Bureaus.

AC Odyssey felt the same although I enjoyed it more. Ancient Greece was a much more interesting time period than the Viking/England stuff. I'm just not into Vikings or Norse mythology. I haven't even played the new God of Wars. They gameplay was fun for AC Origins, Odyssey, & Valhalla though. Out of the three, AC Origins is my favorite. I need to play Mirage to get ready for AC Shadows. I skipped Mirage because of Valhalla. I was like "s**t, I am done". 😆 Shadows has me excited again for AC and I have been playing since the first game so I hope we eventually get a resolution to the story. If/when they decide to reboot, I may bow out gracefully. I want to see this thing through though.

It was very disappointing to finish off the bad guys and get Thor's armor and Moljinor only to have nothing worthy left to fight. Ravensthorpe is silly too. The same lines and animations repeated endlessly. No impact at all. All that work collecting resources and supplies to build the town and nothing really changes.

I need to play Mirage. Valhalla actually broke me personally due to the vast amount of content so I skipped Mirage. Then they showed AC Shadows and I got excited for AC again. I've beaten all of the other AC games. My favorite is probably AC Origins.

I never thought Valhalla was a bad game. All the RPG games are FAR from bad games and that just seems something that’s obvious. People complain because 1, most won’t see it as a good AC game, and 2, it’s Ubisoft so people will complain regardless. This game did a lot of things right, it just wasn’t assassins creed, it was an RPG(btw I am commenting this before watching the video😂)

Valhalla would be better if they made some of the sagas optional and that you would stumble upon them instead of forcing you to do them and killing the pacing of the main story.

I definitely like the gear system better in Valhalla because in odyssey it was like “oh you have giant double bladed axe, here’s a basic sword” but in Valhalla it doesn’t fill your inventory with pointless junk

What you said makes little no sense dude. Valhalla gear system is the worst build system I have ever seen in any aRPGs. In Odyssey every perk uses percentages whereas Valhalla in just +1 +2 for something. Have you ever tried testing your damage before and after you socket all your runes in all of your gear? They only increase/decrease by like a merely five damage whereas in Odyssey if you prioritise CRIT damage over weapon damage when testing your warrior attackers then you will notice a significant decrease for your damage. Moreover, Valhalla also has a virtually non existence diversity of armor sets. Every armor sets only offer two bonuses(not to mention the second one is often just +10 +20 for something AGAIN)whereas in Odyssey you get a set bonus for equipping a whole set plus 10 additional engraving on each armor piece, and they are all either warrior focused, assassin focused, hunter focused or hybrid. Furthermore, Valhalla also has way less cool damage glitches-in Odyssey you have the one billion damage knife of dallwun glitch, two billion damage glitch, Ares Madness glitch, Korfu Champion glitched engraving, Bighorn Bow etc. Last but not least, I understand that not everyone likes the random loot mechanic in Valhalla, but seriously the absence of this mechanic is why Valhalla is grindy as HELL. Virtually the only thing that you can trade for silver is trinkets, which makes buying runes(200/round runes 400/diamond runes)extremely annoying in Valhalla unless you used the double mark of Sol glitch to duplicate infinite amount of runes which was patched in current patch unfortunately

I simply dislike Valhalla’s Transmog system. So much fun loot and stuff, but inconvenient to make it look the way you want. 50 currency per piece? When Odyssey made it free and at the pause menu? With all the emphasis on customization, this was a stickler for me. At the very least it’s possible tho.

Couldn’t agree more. Odyssey beats Valhalla in every aspect, except in Valhalla you really have a home town whereas Odyssey you only have a ship. But that’s it. Builds, weapons, combat, story , side and main quests, character etc. in Odyssey are just infinitely better

I think covid ruined the development of Valhalla. As it forced devs to scramble their development plans to make a new one in that timeframe. By the time Valhalla launched they were still scrambling to find the perfect balance. I think thats the reason why prologue felt well crafted and rest of the game didn't.

I am currently replaying eveey ac game on hostorical Order. Odyssey and origins were fine but still not that great games. Valhalla is starting to bore me again. I had 200 hours on my first playthrougu because i did everything. I am concentrating only on the story now and its way better that way. The points in the video are all valid except maybe the combat. I still hate it that we cant control cool finishers anymore. What i really enyoed was the story plus modern day. The crossover with kassandra and basim overall. Mirage makes his character even better

Assassins creed valhalla is masterpiece but the insane downgrade in open world replayability compared to odyssey or even origins is just so tragic plus how the broken the game actually is its so sad i like the new stuff its refreshing but open world that big that just isnt full of life and gameplay is bad they improved some stuff in the dlcs other than that valhalla is just masterpiece its so good i wish they just remake the open world of the base game and fix the game bcs the story and assassinations and the conquests and story missions were really good as i say valhalla is one of the best games ever made but it dsnt feel good to play like odyssey or origind does its so different and thats what we needed but its so damn bad in so many things it feels next gen but so broken and unfinished the unfinished open world without the polish is just so discusting

This may be a hot take but Valhalla is more enjoyable on the second play through compared to the first. Which I know seems a lot to ask given how bloated the game feels at times but if you’re willing to slog through it again there’s a lot of neat details and foreshadowing (which tie in nicely with the game’s theme of fate and destiny) that you obviously wouldn’t notice/appreciate the 1st time through

The gear in Valhalla absolutely has no meaning in the game. The perks or stats don't matter like they did in Odyssey, and Eivor might as well just be a tank. He hardly takes damage by the end of the game and the gear set perks may make a small noticeable difference but there is no comparison to how Odyssey's gear system works. I may not like the gear system in Odyssey due to the reliance of stacking stats, but gear did matter, and you could freely change the appearance of your best gear whenever you wanted. Valhalla and Odyssey both had some nice abilities, but Odyssey had a better skill tree and mastery tree. Valhalla had better writing than Odyssey. The story isn't as good as Odyssey, though, but Eivor, Basim, and the memory corridors were th best part of the game. The DLCs were also so much better than Odyssey's imo. Dawn of Ragnarok is absolutely one of the better DLCs in the series, and the note from Bayek that Reda had was greatly appreciated. I wish Ubisoft would revisit him and Aya. Overall, Valhalla is a very enjoyable game if you play it slowly and enjoy the sights, the story, and the lore. Also, the best thing it did was bring the Viking experience and intertwine with Assassin's Creed. The combat was good, but Odyssey was more fun. Eivor is also an awesome protagonist.

The world of AC Valhalla was beautiful, but... it was empty and soulless. A vast, empty world without interest. I'm playing Witcher 3 for the 6th time (which I've been replaying every year for the last 6 years), and inevitably, I compare Witcher to similar types of games. This comparison helps me understand what an epic game like Witcher 3 should be like and how a game shouldn't be flat, soulless, and repetitive like AC Valhalla. So, if you want to understand what goes wrong with a game, just play Witcher 3 first and compare them.
