Because this happened to me I feel obliged to share it. The door frame pull up bar WILL eventually break your door (unless its metal). Over time it will slowly but surely pry that top frame, where the plastic bar sits, off the door. Mine upheld for hundreds of pull ups but eventually, snap, and your on your way to fix your door frame. For the ones who might not believe me; if you have a door frame pull up bar like he showed feel the wood piece of the frame on the door you use it on and you'll feel with your fingers the space its making over time.

On the other hand i have the model he said not to buy. And i gotta say its not for weak door frames either. If you want the bar to be secrured you will have to tighten it so much that you will hear the door frame scream in agony. Good for concrete/brics not so much for woodenf doorframes.

4:00 you gotta put a piece of scrapwood on either side, so that you can screw the pullupbar very tight, letting it dig into the wood without harming your doorfame. You can also nail a bit of rubber on the sides of the wood that are facing the doorframe, for more protection and friction.

I started off with that doorway pull-up bar but upgraded to the KHANH TRINH stand-alone pullup bar from Amazon and slapped a set of rings on there and hoh-lee-sheeit was that a game changer! Never had a chest before, then I discovered RTO pushups and proper form and now my chest is blowing up like crazy. Also purchased a dip belt and started doing 5-lbs, then 10-lbs then 15-lbs and progressive overload in the 6-10 rep range for a majority of my movements is sculpting me into a greek god. I was amazed to find out how warm wrist bands can keep your body - I used them for martial arts training in colder weather. They helped me conserve heat as I warmed up without using clothing that would warm excessively and get wet with sweat. If my body got too warm as I worked out I could of course easily take them off. They work this way in civilian wear too. Warmth without bulk or excessive clothing!

3:16, one thing i found about that pull up bar, it can kinda be like parallettes too, to help you train plances and stuff, like a really small low parallettes. You just put it on the floor and tilit it up side down as compared to how you put it on your doorframe. The downside is that the handles are curved. THere's even like foam support/grip thingyies on the spot where it could function as a "parrallete."

Downside of the weighted vest for pullups is that it blocks full RoM. I use a simply gym sack, lines with a little cardboard and a few thin magazines to reinforce it, loaded with dumbbells, then it's on my back for pushups. Main downside of it is just that it has a size limit (I have 24Kg in mine but no more space in the bag, or weight to add to it). I liked the tip for how to use medium parallettes for dips. I don't do dips currently but may try to find a way to do so now.

0:32 With all due respect, your setup for dips with the small parallettes is a pretty good sales pitch for the dip bars, because it looked uneven in height and wobbly. To be fair, in my 20 years of training from home, I've come to the conclusion that the most consistent and economical way to do stable dips at home is with dip bars. A dip station is even sturdier, but also more expensive and difficult to store. Rings work (I use them every session), but only if you're okay with trading a lot of raw tonnage and muscle stimulus for the increased stability requirements. Stability is great, but sometimes you just want to crank out heavy reps without thinking too much about proprioception. And finding two stable surfaces of exactly the same height that allow you to place two parallettes roughly shoulder-width apart is harder than it might seem at first.

I got that second pull up bar, except it screwed into the door frame so it was secure. It was useful, but the issues are that you only have one grip position and it has you doing the pull ups in the door frame so it limits how wide you can spread your elbows. 4:00 I have a similar screw on pull-up bar that I've been using for some time, and from what I've discovered, it works if you make one end of it a tiny bit higher than the other, and keep screwing until it's impossible to do more. Like, you'd have to use your pushing strength if you can. You also can't just start it however, you have to make sure not to swing too much. I know it sounds like a lot of hassle to go through for something with questionable safety, but that's the best I could find for cheap where I live, and it's serving its purpose, so I don't mind.

I have a pullup bar similar to the extending one, but it has mounts you screw into the door frame so that it is actually secured rather than relying on tension alone. With that in mind, there are two different kinds that mount like that that might bear considering based on your situation. My current one is in the doorway to my garage. The door frame was constructed in such a way that the one that screws and extends for outward pressure was actually pushing the door frame apart enough that I didn't trust it. I have another one that slides to extend, but the mounting brackets are hex shaped and the ends slide down into them. This one was better because any tension on the bar pulls inward rather than pushes outward. The other benefit with his one is the bar does not rotate and affect your grip like the other one could. So something worth considering if you have a doorway where you can screw in the mounts without worrying about the holes left behind like in an apartment.

One thing you might try is competition straps for the rings off a pull-up bar. Not good for uneven attachment points but way easier and consistent off something like a straight bar. I regularly use it for inverted rows, face pulls, and leg curls. For unweighted dips I recommend a walker from goodwill. Not 100% about heavy weighted dips or other movements.

Ive used one of those same style pull up bars you said was stupid for years now. If you put it in the door frame properly it is solid and wont budge. I weigh 200Ilbs and do weighted dips using 15kg of extra weight and it holds in place fine. I also use it as anchor point for resistance band exercises and often with a heavy band, so the bar is taking added resistance and pull from multiple angles and still years later holds solid in place with no movement

Ive been hitting PR´s on dips recently and bought ElbowSleeves for the pain doing heavy loads, recommend 100%. Its a lot when your doing strength training with dips and other stuff like muscleUps, elbow sleeves saves me from injury. including WristWraps ofc.

4:00 you need to make that pull up bar tighter on both ends. I have one like that and it works perfectly fine

I would opt for the pull-up bar with an elevated bar that's more higher than the door frame. It's a big difference from the regular pull-up bar where you're forced to fold your legs backwards

Been doing Rings for a couple years now. Best results ever. Working stabilizers at the same time is where it's at.

The "stupid pull up bars" are meant to be used with "pull up bar brackets" to make them safe, they suck on their own :) Most I've seen just don't even say it on packaging or in the manual.. Which is the stupid thing.

the friction pullup bar is teh worst. Not only it's dangerous but also if you manage to make it stick, it destroys your doorframe and then your landlord might notice it...

the second pull up bar is better, you can add screws in them as well, With the first pull up bar i almost broke my back and i had to go through a 3 months recovery

You can buy gymnastic rings; tie knots in the strap; and put those on the other side of a closed door. Boom, you got a way to do chin ups, pull ups, dips, leg raises, and back rows if you feel confident in your door frame

4:05 No its not. I have the same horizontal bar, and it has been hanging in the hallway for more than 2 years, I have done pull-ups with weights, muscle-ups, even a little dynamics like 360, shrimp flip regrab, gainer, and it holds perfectly. So you just need to secure it well.

What follows is entirely my opinion. It is meant to give your food for thoughts, not to act as an absolute teaching. Before I start, as my comment is long, I want to remind you that what equipment are good or bad highly depends on yourself and your goals. One of the best thing to do is to first try them, either from already owning them, or at stores, and see if you want to use them or not. The best possible equipment is the one you will enjoy using, and therefore use often. If you are not fit (unable to do pullup, or hardly do one or two), and are on a budget, a good door pullup bar (one that don't sleep) is likely the best choice : if you are a beginner, you will take any risk since all your exercises will be feet hanging, so in case of fall, that's not the worse. If you are not on a budget, what is below applies as well, except rings. Assuming you are already somewhat fit, meaning you can do some bar pullups and some dips pullups, the go-to equipment is rings. Also, you can use fixed climbing strap loops to hang them if you struggle to adjust them to certain heights with classical straps. Rings are amazing in that they build a lot of stabilizers muscles that are quite hard to target otherwise, plus you can hang them everywhere. My second purchase would be, depending on what you can afford/do : #1 Fixations for rings at the ceiling of your home, which is at the same time really convenient, and doesn't take much space. Plus you can use those fixations to hang suspended chair or something like that in case you got people at home. Problem is that not everybody can put those in ceiling, especially if you rent an apartment. If you are lucky, this can be extremely cheap to install. #1.5 If you can also afford it, a pullup bar fixed either on the ceiling or wall is a good bonus to the rings. #2 A sturdy pullup bar, that is quite high. Either an half rack with a straight top bar (pretty exprensive) or a specialized one (often cheaper but less sturdy). It takes some space but again, you can hang a chair below it in case of need for seating and space optimization. The idea is that one of the good way to progress fast is to have everything always installed, on hand, so even when feeling unmotivated you can train real quick, and often it gets you motivated on the fly. I really noticed the difference between having to spend 20min to reach streetworkout park and having a bar directly at home. Note that you can suspend your rings to the bar btw. Why pullup bar tho and not parallettes or other stuff ? Because paralettes and other stuff are mostly enhancements for exercises as pushups etc, but they don't provide much other than making some exercises more ergonomic, while hanged exercises as pullups and variations, leg raises, metronome etc pretty much require something to hang from. Ok, next buy depends on what you target. If you want to go the specialized way, simply go for a set of parallettes and elastic bands. They are inexpensive and will help you improve on some advanced exercises as frontlever or planche. If you want a more versatile equipment, go for one or two kettle bells. They are amazing for compound and dynamic exercises, and later on you can use them as weight for pullups and dips if you really want to go toward pure strenght and weighted callisthenics. Weight vest, I won't recommend for low budget, as they are relatively expensive and not super evolutive. Overall, instead of weighting yourself, it can simply be better to find harder exercises. However, if money is not a problem, they not a waste either. On the honorable mentions, there are all climbing-related equipments, as well as most traditional gym equipments.
