Cambodia is famous for magnificent temples like Angkor Wat, and for being a cheap place to visit. But just how affordable is it? Let's explore what more or less touristy things cost in Siem Reap, Cambodia.
For more videos every week, subscribe to the channel: kzbin.info...

This video isn't just a list of things to do and costs - it's also a discussion about various topics and experiences around Siem Reap. Observations and spontaneous thoughts are mixed with practical information, in other words.
Some of the things covered in this video are:
- Why so many people use the US dollar instead of the Cambodian riel
- Airport transfer options
- Angkor Wat cost, including a full day remork driver
- Some quick notes about the nightlife in Siem Reap
- The cost of t-shirts, fish massage, ice cream rolls, and various foods and drinks
- Notes on food and the Pub Street in Siem Reap
- A friendly warning about dollar bill scams when you arrive
- The cost of accommodation, from simple rooms to private hotel rooms
- Massage costs, and other touristy activities
- Road 60 tour - a food tour of VERY unusual things to eat. Cockroaches, maggots, spiders, and even worse things...
- The cost of riding bumper cars at a faire
- And finally a price comparison between Siem Reap and Stockholm, Sweden

I always love your, "How far does $100 go?" videos, and this was no exception. And...it seemed like a good amount of new footage, too! Insects and arachnids are things I've never eaten (or had any desire to try). I HAVE had sal de gusano (a salt from Mexico made with chilis and agave worms), and I liked that. Not something I'd make a dietary staple, though.

Haha yeah, this was basically a dump of random things I filmed while in Siem Reap, while I pretend that I actually count what you get for $100 :D I think that I could get used to bugs and stuff like that if it wasn't for the smell... I almost retched at the smell of it all there. It's really not my thing! I'll stick to fried rice thank you very much ^_^
@ChristopherGronlund
@ChristopherGronlund 10 ай бұрын
@@ThreeStarVagabond I can only imagine the smell. Even alive, some insects have a particular odor, and I can't see that improving with cooking or pickling...and I often say I'll eat anything as long as it's pickled. (I should probably be more careful about saying that 🤣)

@@ChristopherGronlund Pickled spider, coming right up! Nah, that one at least didn't smell. But the maggots and the cockroaches were quite nasty to have a whiff of ^^

I'm going to Cambodia in november and I'm planning to travel around and stay in hotels as cheap as possible (as I don't want the luxury like I have at home), and I'm not a big eater when travelling anyway. Planning to take around $2000 with me, I think / hope that will be enough 😂

I'm an American who doesn't eat bugs. But it looks like there is plenty of good food there at very low prices compared to the US. -?- A nice overall retirement destination when considering visa ease and costs compared to most all other countries ! -- Some 20,000 expats are living there & many are retired. -- Strongly considering moving there for the weather (hate the cold - now that I'm old) and the very low cost of living. -- Thanks for the insight. Been watching everything I can about the place.

I think Cambodia would be a very good place to retire in. The food is good, the climate is great, and the people are nice. There is a fair bit of corruption and poverty - but it's still a great choice if one doesn't want to go for more common places like Thailand and the Philippines. I'd definitely consider it if I were in your position!

(over 55) - - - WOW - - - Corruption & poverty are nearly everywhere you go - at least where I would consider ? Thailand's visa laws really suck. Malaysia & Kuala Lumpur might be my third choice to retire. They also speak much more English there than in Thailand. --- Siem Reap looks to be about perfect overall for my liking. Wow 100 US dollars goes quite far, I thought the food was really cheap and the cost of beer was amazing it would be a struggle to stay sober.😂 Cambodia looked a lot cleaner than Vietnam. Well by the look of the water I wouldn’t be going swimming but they do have temples and beer so it just goes to prove the fact you can’t have everything. Thanks for the video and Stay Safe till next time

It’s a great place to visit, but super overpriced. $200 for a 3 tour around the area with the temples and $35 each way to and from the airport. Groceries are also insanely expensive when you take into consideration the purchasing power of the Cambodian people. I’d recommend going, but it’s one of those places that you visit once in your life and never return. It’s not Thailand and never will be, at least not while the current rulers are in power and tax tourists the way they do.
@ThreeStarVagabond
@ThreeStarVagabond 19 күн бұрын
What I did was to skip the tour and just bought a ticket, and I also talked to a driver about making a combination of airport transfer and full day Angkor the next day. That got the price down quite a bit. But yeah, they're definitely milking it!

Latest news: The world just acknowledged that Khmer or Cambodia did not build Angkor Wat. Who is Khom? The latest research done by Chiang Mai University in collaboration with an international research team has examined DNA samples from Thailand, Vietnam, Laos, Burma, and Cambodia, compared with DNA samples from ancient humans found in archaeological excavations of each country. Compared to the current ASEAN DNA As a result, Thailand is close to Vietnam, Laos, and Indonesia, but Burma and Cambodia are separated. People who lived during the Khom civilization are pedigree South Indian Mon which is not found in Cambodia This clearly indicates that Khmer is not Khom and Khom Warman was completely eradicated from the present Khmer faction, which had no Khmer ancestry. This coincides with the story of Nai Tang Wan (Mr.Sweet Melon, the slave master) Rebellion who established himself as a later king with the eradication of the Varman dynasty and theories. Diva Sarug Khmer according to the Sap Bak inscription was just a savage village recruited for slave labor. (China-Zhou Da Guang's record)

Don’t try to deceive the truth kid from Yunan China, your country just established in 13th century by invading Khmer. Even your culture, most of temples in your country used to be under khmer who built it but unfortunately Siam or tai current is Thai used to be Brigands who flow from Southern China by invading Khmer empire and established as country in 13th century. It is truth history, if you don’t believe me just to do a research, there are many sources you can search for, even BBC, CNN due to published.
