As an environmental scientist who did a few years of bio-engineering first (ADHD got the better of me tho...) I can say that the "no synthetic fragrance" spiel is nothing but a marketing gimmick to make you pay more... An aromatic compound is an aromatic compound, no matter where they came from. It's a few carbon molecules with single and or double bonds and a few other non-carbon molecules attached to it in a specific location... Unlike fabrics or other materials that consist of long chains of molecules it literally makes no difference at all for such small molecules where they come from
@laevateinn41442 ай бұрын
Also add the fact that "natural" doesn't always mean "environment friendly." There are things naturally sourced but the process generates a lot of waste, or the residues/ intermediates produced can be harmful or pollutant, or even endanger the species you extract the product from. As a chemistry student, one of the first thing they tell us about during the first semester is how the "100% natural" is misleading, a marketing gimmick and even a lie, and it makes people believe that "chemical" or "synthetic" is bad and "natural" is good, when it is the same molecule in the end :(

You should totally come out to Yule Viking Fest any of the first 3 weekends in December. It is Gladewater, Tx. It is family friendly there is a kids area where kids can craft an ornament and have cookies and Juice, stick pony races, a bubble show. Celtica Nova are playing as well as the Harp Twins with the Wolfgang twins. And it is just down i20 from you.

I herniated a lumbar disc in my lower back and hav found everything, and I mean everything, painful. It hurts to stand, sit, sleep, and walk. Making soap has been so hard and the computer is the worst. I am so buying that chair and maybe even a desk for xmas!!!! Thanks Katie!! 🎉❤

I am so sorry that you are going through this. I had excrutiating pain for 19 months, and just a week and a half ago, after my 4th procedure, I am finally pain-free. I wish you the very best. Back pain can be the worst nightmare someone can experience!
@rachaelt32942 ай бұрын
@FrancesLopez-ev3rl It was debilitating at the beginning and I'm getting use to the pain. I also found out triggers for inflammation in the food I was eating. I have been making most our foods from scratch now and that has helped. My biggest issue is leaning forward and sitting are very painful. I'm stretching all day long to cope with the pain and I cant take any of the medicines that are suppse to help bc I'm allergic. I'm going on a year 3 months now... the job I hurt it in is being ridiculous and not letting me get better treatment. I don't want to do surgery bc I was told it can make it worse. Plus I don't have typical symptoms and I'm worried I may have things in different places inside and they can injure me more by going in with surgery.

Do something just for you.... I saved myself a $500 veterinary ER visit tonight, does that count? All I had to do was wrangle my very feisty rabbit into sitting still long enough for some subcutaneous fluids... Not terrifying at all... Earlier this evening I made a batch of lavender soap that probably will bear a mere hint of lavender cause I didn't have as much essential oil in the bottle as I thought I did... I've been experimenting with the amount I put in, as I do not like strongly scented soaps and if I put the oils in at the recommended rate according to soapcalc, I have to lock them in a room for a week before I can be near them, even when it's scents I know I like. The lavender and cedar wood one I made first could be smelled down the stairs and around the corner for a week, and the peppermint one I made last week was eye-burny from ten feet away for the first four days... My next batch is already planned, garden hand soap... tea tree and rosemary oils for the scent, coffee grounds for scrubbiness, and I think I'll go somewhere around half olive or canola oil for conditioning, half coconut oil for suds and cleansing, and a bit of beeswax from my hives for hardness... that'll be my tenth batch since Nov 1, I'm quite hooked :) Here (Ontario Canada) if I wanted to sell soap or lip balms or hand salves with infused oils or whatever, they're ALL considered cosmetics by law and I'd need to register my recipes with the government, listing oil percentages and fragrance oils if it's over x percent of the total, and there are certain oils I can't use commercially or must use only if there's a warning on the label (like eucalyptus). I like your protective sleeves, I'm considering making myself a lab coat for soapmaking, both to protect me and my clothing and my guests from the soapmaking (the scent from the peppermint batch on my shirt triggered a friend's scent allergy), and to protect the soap from the inevitable rabbit hair that I'm always wearing, even though he lives on a different floor from my soap lab... the hairnet is a good idea too if I do make salves or lip balms. That lip balm stick holder is such a great idea!

She read books, and was a member of Soaping 101 since she was 15 or 16. She may have been in other groups, but I only was in that with her. Soaping 101 has a KZbin channel for soap education and material exploration. The FB page is much slower then it used to be, but you could look for specific Q answers using the search feature.

Not that I buy them from you, but for lip balms, I actually like them when they are harder and you have to rub it over your lip 5 times. It lasts longer.
