this is a short discussion on employability and health and social care. This is a very short overview of employment and routes into health care or social care based careers.
I have left links in the video for useful website and articles. Health and social care has so many career routes and opportunities and i cannot cover them all. if this is something you are thinking about - use the links in the videos and begin doing some research.
Also make sure you speak to your teachers or career advisers in school for more detailed info!!!

Thank you, you helped me so much. Everyone else I asked even my teachers brushed me off. So this really helped. I am 23yrs old and trying to go into a different career path. I get bored of things quickly and I’m in two minds.I either want to do childcare or health and social care.it’s probably worth mentioning I have a level 2 in health and social care alright. I like to help people and I really like psychology although I’ve been to uni before and hated it so I dropped out. I’m not really looking to go back. So is it better to stick with childcare and health and social care? If I did health and social care would I have to go uni. Because I would like to be a youth club worker, resdational support worker for children, arts therapist or to do councsilling. I suffer with dyslexia too and that’s why I hated uni too. I know with childcare I’m promised with a child because everywhere accepts level 3. But if I didn’t go to uni and completed level 3 in health and social care would I be able to do any of those jobs I’ve listed above? I really don’t want to go back to uni I hated the writing and reading elements of it. Also I wanted to go straight into employment and because I’m 23yrs old getting my course funded is another issue as I may have to pay for it so as you can imagine I really can’t afford to mess this up and that’s why I’m so stressed.

Thanks for your message. Jobs like the youth club work or residential worker can be roles you take on with out having to complete a uni course. Other youth workers jobs can be taken on directly or with apprenticeship. The best thing to do is contact some the companies offering these types of job and see what they offer. If you are not interested in going to uni, there are normally a few route you can take which avoid this such as apprenticeships, volunteering or work based training schemes.

I’ve got a question. If you study at University health and social care followed with criminology for example and afterward you decide that you want to become a nurse, can having the degree in this two subjects help you to become a nurse or do you specifically need to gain a nursing degree?
@AlansLessons
@AlansLessons 2 жыл бұрын
I would say that this would depend on the type and level of healthcare you wanted to do. Most nurses need to be specially trained and a health/ criminology degree may provide some insight but not necessarily some of the specialist skills needed. My sister in law worked on a ward as a health care assistant and then was allowed to study a nursing degree (funded by the NHS) through her employer. This could be an alternative route. It is always best to research all the possible routes into a career. If you are dead set on nursing then you could do a degree straight in this. If you are not 100% you could do the health degree and then look at employment based schemes to train as a nurse. See what you can find online via UCAS or on the NHS website but also talk to parents, uni’s, teachers/ career advisers to get their views.

I am a non nursing graduate from India. Currently doing certificate III in ageing and disability AFQ level3 equivalent to NVQ level3 Australian course from India conducted by IHNA. Can I apply for health care assistant job in UK? Is there chance to get job in NHS uk as HCA
@AlansLessons

There is a significant shortage of workers in their area. I suspect if you were to apply you would have a good chance.

Where can you find jobs if you have completed your level 2 and are of legal age to work?@Alans lessons

It would depend on the specific sector you're interested in but you could look on recruitment websites or apply directly for companies or apprenticeships. some of the websites in the video / links in the description could be a good place to start.

Could I still become an Early Years Teacher with Health and Social Care qualifications/BTEC, or do I have to do a Childcare/Child Development qualification/BTEC? Everyone I'm asking is saying "Yes, you can become a early years teacher with Health and Social Care qualifications.", but I've been trying to find proof of this online, but I can't find anything on this.
@AlansLessons

To be come an early years teacher you would need to complete a teaching degree at uni. Health and social care could get you onto the degree course. Each uni has different entry criteria so it’s best to research which uni meets your grades / tariff points.

Hello can I do this course after completing HA(Health assistant course) ?
@AlansLessons
@AlansLessons 2 жыл бұрын
i believe that a HA course offers you more practical / working skills for going into health care and probably is more beneficial than a BTEC course. That being said, you could do this course after completing a HA course.

Hey @Alan’s lesson can you become an occupational therapist if you didn’t pass gcse science but have a level 2 qualification distinction star at uni
@AlansLessons
@AlansLessons 2 жыл бұрын
It might vary between Uni’s but from my understanding, most occupational therapy degree courses you usually need 2/3 A levels. It would be worth looking at the course requirements of different uni’s to see what they want specifically.
