Loved this….. I will be taking your words and making things happen in my life. I’ve faced fear for too long and decided if I keep doing what I’ve always done, I’ll keep doing what I’ve always done and nothing will change.

I'd first been taught group theory in a neoFreudian model so for example if everyone in a group stands up and one doesn't two things happen. The personal superego of the rebel punishes him by releasing id energy which causes them to blush and feel embarrassed and the group superego punishes him so that the group begins to ostracise the rebel. But its obviously better not to fixate on one model. I know you left the karate group but I don't know the specifics not asking if not appropriate but do you have any positive insights about anti-group theory. So it's good to overcome fear and submit to social pressure for survivial But it's also good sometimes to do the opposite. Without any anti-group forces a group tends to congeal and become oppressive. And there is at least one book on treating fear and intuition as a street survival technique especially for women. Apparently in male fights they tend to happen more because of ego and pride. On the helmet thing most of the theory I have read is we just use them for kids these days to prevent minor cuts and abrasions to the face. For adults to prevent CTE it is far better not to wear helmets as the provide a wider area for strkes to land and do not protect the brain from concussion. So we just keep helmets for adults because it looks good even though we know the medical facts suggest it is worse to wear them when there will be multiple hits to the head (as opposed to occasional accidental hits like a helmet in a construction site).

Helmets are proven to reduce risk of certain skull injuries, even if evidence of reducing concussion risk is unclear. I'd rather not get a skull fracture or otherwise. And I'd also rather not perform a head kick on someone without the protection of a helmet. Sure way to injure your foot. Lots of reasons to wear protection. As for leaving dojo etc, I do talk about it in another video on here. 🙏

@@TheKarateShrimp That's the problem with youtube videos they seem to contradict each other. Have you seen the ones by Ramsey Dewy or Armchair violence. The latter goes into great detail on the different types of helmets that might be helpful. For my kids five year old girls in two months. They don't really need helmets for now as sparring involves genteel taking of turns and it's more posing with attitude. So they demonstrate how high their leg extension is. Then the other girl responds. Though there is an attempt at bouncing back and forth sort of like an old fashioned ball room dance. When they get to seven years old it seems to me in Bangalore or Karnataka regional contests State approved and National Sports Karate here don't allow children Kumite till 8 years old. Then I am going to talk to the coach about getting a better helmet to stop them getting pokes to the eyes maybe skin abrasions to the face. They wear booties and gloves. But after 7 years old the girls have at it and the normal helmets leave too wide a gap around the face I assume to improve vision. I don't think they'll need to worry about skull fractures for a few years mind. Though I don't know enough to be certain. That's the other problem with fixating on models. Only thing I really learnt from Uni was there are usually a lot of models or theories that explain the available facts and none of them explain all the facts. Some await more facts some try to join different models together. But its impressive if you can get any theory to explain 90% of what goes on. And sometimes you have to accept stuff happens for wyrd reasons and who knows. Don't the booties protect the feet though? Plus the girls a lot more than the boys from my limited experience have far greater touch control. It's semi contact sports karate. Technically Shito-ryu but they enter KIO competitions which is a broader indian karate federation linked to the Olympic and Asean federations. If you post a link to the details of what happened I'd be interested I just saw the podcast which skimmed over it. It seems strange stuff happens at any club or society no matter what the field. Human beings are human beings. And if you give the opportunity for anyone to abuse power without accountability then they probably will.
