Earth Stories - Climate Disaster Documentaries

An average guy makes a resolution to stop using plastic bags at the grocery store. Little does he know that this simple decision will change his life completely. He comes to the conclusion that our consumptive use of plastic has finally caught up to us, and looks at what we can do about it.
What starts as a film about plastic bags evolves into an extensive investigation into plastic and its effect on our waterways, oceans and even our bodies.

The bigger issue here is "what else are we consumers paying for?" If customers are paying for bags, shopping carts, debit card kiosks, parking lots... then why don't we get ownership rights or profits from the business we are paying to operate? I cringe every time I hear a company talk about passing on over-head costs to the consumer. How can a business expect its customers to pay for its operating costs, but receive no piece of the company in return? Where's the fairness in that?

The fairness is in the fact that YOU the consumer demand and expect certain things. And to use your examples: shopping carts-why don’t you hold all your groceries instead? Parking lots -why don’t you walk everywhere? Plastic bags-why don’t you bring your own or carry the groceries? I think you have confused being a consumer and a shareholder. being a consumer you pay for goods and services, being a shareholder you buy a piece of a company that later sells a product or service and makes profit (and often losses) so you’ll see your fair share of that profit (or loss). And you’ll also have to worry about Dave that complains that there’s not enough parking or checkout tellers to service you

My partner's on peritoneal dialysis - there is no avoiding plastic waste for us. It produces an entire trash bag full of plastic waste every day. And it'll stay that way until he gets a new kidney unfortunately. We try to avoid plastic when we can otherwise, but with the pandemic a lot of that has fallen to the side as we have to rely on deliveries to avoid exposure (and yes, the pandemic is still going strong even now in August 2022). And as the world unmasks and stops taking precautions, we've been forced to be even more careful and avoid ppl even more than we used to have to.

Himalayan lakes frequented by tourists have plastic garbage floating around. For example the Pangong lake shared by China and India at the border of both countries in Ladakh, India.

Packaging Industries are responsible for the mess.

Nope, they are not responsible and the plastic bags are not responsible. Irresponsible PEOPLE are responsible. I grew up in the 1970s and we had Give a Hoot, Don't Pollute campaigns and made posters in school. The parents taught their kids to use trash cans. Not today, they encourage their kids to throw trash out the car window and on the ground everywhere. Say something to them and see the dirty look you get.
