In the USA President Obama realized that the SARS epidemic the occurred back in 2002 was a warning so in 2009 he tried to get funding to prevent major outbreaks of infectious diseases. The republicons opposed it so the funding was removed. Then just a few months late the H1N1 outbreak occurred to the chagrin of the republicons. Obama was then able to get funding. He set up a Pandemic Response Team to prevent something like that from happening again. This made the USA the best equipped to handle a pandemic. Fast foward to 2017 when trump became president. One of the first things he did was fire the Pandemic Response Team as well as all the expertise in infectious diseases out of spite and the delight of the republicons that controlled Congress. The USA went from the best to one of the worst to dial with a pandemic and is now paying a very costly price in lives and money.

When it reached quarantine levels I was like, "This looks familiar". Come time for the pictures, "Oh yeah, this is equivalent to the Spanish Flu of 1918-1920.". It shares so many similarities that it was mind baffling.

Notice how *nobody* talks about the Hong Kong flu pandemic of 1968-69 Estimated number of deaths 1 million worldwide (mostly over 65 y.o.) It was allowed to spread through the population without restrictions on economic/social activity
