I think this might've also been GF's first attempt at making an almost pure solo player, standalone experience. There's a lot of quality content, a unique story, and well-written characters that makes Hisui feel fleshed out before it was changed to Sinoh. Still the fact that it was released near the end of January and had less than 2 months of updates only supports that they wanted this game to be its own thing, given that the main goal is to complete the first ever recorded Pokédex while also solving a phenomenon that's causing Pokémon lords to become in a frenzied state. I can only guess that they wanted to make this complete upon release while they focused on Scarlet/Violet yet its been so criminally neglected that there's no reason why they can't have an update for online or local PvP battles with real time strategy. What also makes this feel upsetting, for me at least, is that this was such a great experience and much needed breath of fresh air that I can't see GF doing a follow-up of an old traditional Jotoh setting or precolonized Unova much like how some people were hoping for a Let's Go Johto game after Let's Go Pikachu/Eevee.

Yes for gamefreaks first attempt at making a pure solo player game it was good since they had a great story. For pokémon i feel as if they need multiplayer bc that’s what brings people together. But i can def see them doing more games likes this in the future. I hope they expand upon the legends series.

They updated only once for the massive mass outbreak and pretty much called it quits. It's sad to see that they couldn't really continue to add new things while we were waiting for scarlet and violet. It was sort of the same with pokemon quest, yes i remember this game cuz it was fun at the time, but they didn't continue to update it, but in Japan, that game has updated it multiple times which is kinda confusing. I just hope that if they do another legends type of game, that they try to keep it alive longer with cooler updates and not kill it after 4 months. Great vid Mark!!

I'll say this. There were very few bad steps in Legends Arceus. Just a lack of good ones. Aside from the visuals being muddy, and the occasional bad performance from anything more than 15 feet away from the player, it was actually a really remarkable game. The catching mechanic was perfect, the crafting system was amazing, the customization was fun and inventive, and the exploration was fun. But outside of that, you couldn't really do anything. It was almost every step in the right to direction for Pokemon-as if it were the beta test for a better game to come, which never came. I compare this game to Star Wars Battlefront 2015. The game itself was incredible-but it was half a game. What was there was great, there just wasn't much there. Legends arceus had a single major update two months after launch, virtually no online usability, and once you completed the dex, there was zero replayability outside of shiny hunting. And with zero access to Pokemon Home until just a few days ago-a year and a half after the game came out, there was literally no reason to ever open the game again. The game was virtually dead in a few months. And it's a damn shame, but I had so much more fun in Legends Arceus than I did with Violet.

For some reason, I really enjoy collecting satchels (of actual players). So after playing SV and getting bored, I would return to PLA just to see if anyone needed their satchels returned. I also felt like if there weren’t as many players as before, there was a greater need for such a service.

oh, I didn't know I am still playing a "dead game". The lack of updates means they did a fantastic job of actually finishing a game, so what if you don't get seasonal events.. there 28 mainline quests and nearly 100 requests to do on top of that all of the pokedex entries you can finish. This game is still beyond everyone's wildest imagination when it comes to pokemon games and we can only hope they are going to release another like it in the future.

It hurts me to no end that the Pokemon company just abandons this game even though it was truly successful and just went along to favor Scarlet and Violet I love the concept of Hisui and the Hisuian Forms of Pokemon, and to this day despite beating the campaign I still play it to enjoy the crap out of it! And of course enjoy my Snail Drago, Hisuian Goodra!

Omgosh Mark!! This Video was SO AMAZING!!! The edits, music, and the commentary!!! There were also things I learned like ONLY 3 Updates and so much more!! U pointed out sm facts!! PLA were great games but sadly had no multi-player and weren't focused on much, they deserve such more! I personally feel that adding a competitive or multiplaying features would of ruined the game. it was meant to be a single player game with a lot of of personal experiences that was a breath of fresh air from the stuffy breeding and battling of other titles. I will say that I find it weird to say that it died however if anything it did kill bdsp who did have multiplayer and lasted a good bit longer to the point that people are still playing it even when SV came out myself included for oak's challenge runs and such. Now could they have been better yes. They could of explored a lot more when it comes to things like establishing certain aspects such as references to them making new areas or such building sinnoh as well as just seeing the world transform.

Underrated! The story is original and fun, The pokemon fights rule, the catching is awesome, its not too easy or too kid friendly watered down bs. This game is my fav pokemon game, the pitential of a series is endless and i enjoyed that they tried. Gen 9 came wayy too soon. It didnt let arceus get its moment to shine i‘ll be pissed if this is the last we hear of the legends series. But at least i can hold on to a copy and sell it in 30years to collectors for good cash 😪

While there's no real evidence, I think it's safe to assume that PLA was developed just as a proof of concept from GF about what a Pokémon game can be. Being some sort of an experiment, they couldn't predict the sales of the game and so it's not that surprising that the support they gave is very minimalistic. Now that they know it's doing well, I can see (and strongly hope) that they'll make another one like this again.

ironically legend arceus was potentially the savior to the pokemon franchise just of how it challenges traditional pokemon games with its soulsborne playstyle. while i get it is quite disappointing that the game does not have much multiplayer feature, i can understand why they couldnt as it will feel chunky players running around and throwing pokeball/challenging trainers. plus they were investing the time to pokemon scarlet and violet which is really disappointing how game freak is releasing all these pokemon game with new generation in a span of three years just for their mainline game to be average at best. if only they stop doing quantity over quality and start doing quality > quantity, new pokemon games will finally be more refined and fresh out with brand new ideas rather than burning through everything within a 3 year span (legend of zelda is a great example of quality > quantity) i hope game freak will step up their game and start focusing on one game at a time, maybe in the next "legends" title or mainline game, it will be better than all others. also long time no see mark, its blanky from like 2020-2021, been a while, glad to see you doing well

This video pissed me off. The game was a lot of fun but it was left to wither bcos of Scarlet & Violet. The lack of p2p battle and gameplay was disappointing but I still played it and enjoyed it and continue to enjoy it as well as using it to quickly train Pokémon from the other games like BDSP. I somehow became convinced that we would get a DLC but here we are still waiting… like fools. At least the Hisuian versions have new life in Scarlet & Violet. Other than that.. I’m annoyed at being reminded of the abandonment

I honestly just viewed this game as a Single Player Game with access to Trading (Which even then, wasn't really necessary thanks to trade stones). I'm not really the kind of player who cares too much about graphics, just game-play. With the perspective of the game being strictly Single-player, I think the game was pretty memorable. I wouldn't say re-playable, but memorable. I'll never forget my nuzlocke against Giratina Boss Fight post game. I never once thought of the game as a Multiplayer game since there wasn't battling or seeing other trainers in the field with me. I just thought the game as BotW, but its Pokemon (No I'm not making a comparison of the two games in terms of looks, feels, etc, just saying that they're both mainly single-player) So for it to die in a few months, it was kinda expected in my eyes. The game wasn't Dark Souls where people keep playing it because of crazy hard the game is and how adventurous it was. Legends Arceus was just an Open World, with a Fresh new way of playing Pokemon but clearly focusing on Catching and Lore (Hence why its based on its past) and Usually, idk how others play single-player story driven games, they don't tend to be re-playable. It's just a game you beat once and move on, and maybe watch someone else play it on YT to see how they fared against some of the hard bosses. I think that maybe the community might've used the wrong lens when looking/playing the game. I think as a single-player story driven open world it did pretty good for a first time concept in Pokemon. Solid 8/10 for sure. I will say that the new battle mechanic was a bit Unbalanced, but it made for a very intense Nuzlocke.

I think the devs didn’t want to invest in adding dlcs and MP on Legends Arceus to give way to Scarlet and Violet, they know that Arceus will end up as the better game if they did compared to the mainline pokemon game

Legend Arceus eventually received five updates, of which the fourth update was a free mini DLC, but since then there has been deep radio silence. 1.0.0 Original release 1.0.1 January 26, 2022 1.0.2 February 8, 2022 1.1.0 February 27, 2022 - Daybreak 1.1.1 March 17, 2022 And now (September 18th 2024) this March 17th 2022 was already about 2 years, 6 months months ago.

It really is a shame Legends didn't have a longer chance to shine. Sure it has issues, but it was some of the most fun I'd had with a pokemon game in a long time. Gen 8 had really disappointed me up to that point--so much so that if I ended up not liking Legends Arceus I was going to jump ship from modern pokemon for good. It of course wouldn't have made a difference to gamefreak or Nintendo, but there's no sense in me wasting money on stuff that just makes me angry and disappointed. That they were changing up the formula was my last glimmer of hope. And the game was honestly enough to get me hopeful for SV, even if I thought it was odd gen 9 was coming out so soon after Legends. (Seriously, what were they thinking? I remember a lot of people being really confused by that). As it is, while I enjoyed SV considerably more than SwSh or BDSP, I definitely agree that it needed another year in the oven at least. Not only to give it some of the polish it desperately needed, but to give Legends a chance to breathe. Seriously, if they decide to pull a digimon and never make another Legends game again because """not enough people were interested""" despite them being stuff many fans are actually really interested in(and it being Nintendo's own fault for it not doing as well because they pulled the plug early), I'm going to be genuinely frustrated.

I think you are overlooking something when Legends Arceus had no online battles: The. Time. Period. You are so far back in time that Pokémon are feared as monsters, there are hardly any Trainers, the Pokémon do not have Abilities and you’re supposed to be the sole visitor from the future. Nothing in Hisui would make sense to acknowledge online Trainer battles. I’d rather the story not have been an Isekai style with ambitious ending as to how you get home after Arceus essentially kidnapped you to do his job for him. This is surely going to affect the natural flow of time

You could have summed it up in one. Nintendo's underpowered hardware. All the multi-player features you mentioned are not remotely feasible with Switch's specs. Performance issues out of the gate and terrible draw distances. Devs can only do so much with the restrictions they have. This game deserves current Gen specs and performance.

There were plans for a DLC for legends Arceus but it was relegated to the March update as the Arceus team had to Allocate to Scarlet and Violet to get it out for Christmas... Pokemon prints money no matter how bad it is so Game freak is pressuring the Developers to push games out every year. That's why Gen 8 had cut corners, that's why this game got shafted in favor of Scarlet and Violet. And that's why they Forced the POKEMON HOME DEVS TO CREATE THE WORST SET OF REMAKES TO DATE. At my own risk and sanity to say this... Game Freak ARE the devs. It's TPC International that owns the brand which sells like hotcakes regardless, and force them to blast games out of a cannon. And frankly - do not stop reading, this is the most important part - the reason Game Freak is infamously a "small indie company" is because it's still run by the same CEOs who ran it 30 years ago, and adamantly refuse to alter their methods or hire a larger staff in spite of TPCI's increasingly absurd demands. So if you MUST attack the smaller of the two companies, attack the heads of it, not random employees.

The game died bc it lacked content and replayability. After beating the game (catching Arceus) there is physically nothing left for you to do except grinding repetitive side quests or filling out your task list. That combined with the terrible boring and empty world the game laid out for the players with 0 things to explore hisui was just another rushed job by gamefreak that ended up dying out

Let's accept this: Unless the higher-ups at TPC decide to make another Legends game or renew this one forget about even getting any updates whatsoever. SwSh is already dead as we speak since 2019. when i say "death of" it means what caused this game to fall off. and essentially this game fell off for multiple reasons i stated in the video and i even mentioned that it was a single player game too... but most importantly it died after a few months bc of the lack of updates so that caused it to die heavily.

I don't know how people still can't see Gamefreak for what they are now. They were never going to give this game attention. Hell, they didn't even polish it or make a good game. They made yet another mediocre game (interesting concept aside), and you bought it, so then they dropped it to make the next one for you to buy for them to then drop that one as well. @TKDPandaa The thing is, Legends so clearly could have been better regardless of how much fun anyone had with it. It was a step in an interesting direction (I won't say a good one, but definitely interesting), but they failed to make it to it's potential. It felt very dead and empty. The bottom line is Gamefreak can and NEEDS to do better.
