What Causes NMO?

Neuromyelitis optica (NMO) Spectrum Disease is an autoimmune disease that is triggered. The onset of NMO is currently unknown. It is also unknown why people with NMO experience different levels of severity during attacks. Many factors like viruses, vaccines, environment and more are currently being studied as scientists work to discover what triggers NMO attacks and how to prevent future attacks. Understanding this is a critical step in finding a cure for NMO.

I got a vaccination tetanus shot and I developed vision loss for the 1st time in my life 2 weeks later. I am now on my way to the 3rd eye doctor to see why all of a sudden I have been rapidly losing vision in my right eye. So yes vacation is one of the factors.

My brother have symptoms of nmo but the report mri of eye orbit and the spinal cord fluid all report are normal but the problem is he not able to see anything from left eye and the right eye can see about 50 % of visibility.

On my own opinion and experience my life style. i've been eating healthy foods. But i'm always lack of sleep. too much thingking. stress on my work and kept avoiding the sunlight. i never had any desease. Then suddenly i got this nmo.

I just got diagnosed with NMO a week ago. My symptoms came a little differently than most of these people. Idk like to chat and tell my story and ask questions.

Sorry to hear, my husband is in the hospital now likely NMO although previously diagnosed with MS we will wait for the blood test in a week or so. Wish you the best- it seems like there are some treatments available and even stem cell treatments are promising. Best to you!

@@JG-ix5xr THank you. My doctor said that blood antibodies take 6+ months before they show and even at that, only 30% of ppl with NMO show antibodies
