About Cobra Kai: Thirty-four years after his defeat in the 1984 All-Valley Karate Tournament, Johnny Lawrence, now in his 50s, works as a part-time handyman and lives in an apartment in Reseda, Los Angeles, having fallen far from the wealthy lifestyle in Encino that had been enabled by his verbally abusive step-father, Sid Weinberg. Daniel is finally living the wealthy lifestyle he envied as a child when he lived in Reseda. However, after his friend and mentor Mr. Miyagi died, Daniel's struggle to meaningfully connect with his children has disrupted the balance in his life. Meanwhile, his mother Lucille, his other source of support, has a complicated relationship with his wife Amanda. jack brewer
Johnny's dojo attracts a group of bullied social outcasts who find camaraderie and self-confidence under his tutelage, a marked contrast to the kind of students Tommy, Bobby, Dutch, Jimmy and Johnny were when training in the original Cobra Kai run by John Kreese. Johnny develops a bond with his first and best student, Miguel, in a manner that resembles the relationship between Daniel and Mr. Miyagi. Cobra Kai's philosophy, however, remains mostly unchanged, though Johnny tries to infuse it with more honor than Kreese did. Thus, Miguel develops into a very different kind of student than Daniel, or even Johnny, was; he also begins dating Samantha. Johnny's efforts to reform Cobra Kai are undermined by the unexpected reappearance of Kreese, who hopes to bring the dojo back to its originally ruthless form.
As a means of revenge against his estranged father, Robby convinces Amanda to hire him for a position at the LaRusso Auto dealership and develops a close friendship with Daniel (although Daniel is unaware of Robby's lineage). He even studies Mr. Miyagi's form of Karate with Daniel and becomes friendly with Samantha. She eventually joins her father's dojo, which ultimately leads to her breaking up with Miguel. Miguel later begins dating another Cobra Kai student, Tory, who is Sam's rival.
The developing story revolves around these primary relationships, which lead to conflicts that are ultimately the product of Daniel and Johnny's inability to move away from the past.

@@darkmagic2830 Making a movie especially like filming a fight scene is not like recording a fight on your phone. It is a choreographed dance between actor, cameras, and crews. Sure it may look silly but it is all means to create an end product that looks awesome. Almost all actors especially action actors will not even do their own fight scenes so the fact that these kids do should be good enough to respect them. The whole point of the show is to be cheesy, just like the original movies. They wanted to bring back the 80s action movie style. So that is why the director made the choice to do shots like the camera circling Sam in a parallax because that was a popular shot in 80s action movies. It is fine to not like a character but don’t dislike a character because of what the actor had to do it film it.

Movies use wires all the time and editing them out is actually super easy, barely an inconvenience. Xolo wasn't actually the one that got dumped on the stair railing that was a stunt double. Many of the bigger stunts are usually done twice with a stunt double then with the actor and they'll splice them together in editing usually because you get a better physical performance from a stunt performer. But when it comes to a big stunt that is especially dangerous, you will have a stunt double take the hit, as in the stair case fall. Ropes/lines/wires are attached to performers who are wearing full harnesses and the wires are attached to specific points on the harness which is under the clothes. Typically when a wire stunt is performed it is done by 2 or more people pulling the rope which is attached to a strong beam of some kind over head. I'm a stunt performer with 15+ years of experience. Great video. Love the show :)

I always found it amazing how fast these kids learned to be so great at karate! Usually takes a few years to get this good. They did it in less than a year of high school lol

Well, tbh they are bad to very bad at karate, they are "good" at fighting. I trained Karate from 10 to about 25 (41 now), when i was around 21, I started training Kendo. In my first competition with 98 participants of all levels (I was probably the newest one with only about 4 months of practice) I ended up 3rd, losing at the semifinals against my own teacher and still managed to score a point and lose 2v1 instead of 2v0. I was horrible at kendo, but already knew how to fight, control distance, many other aspects of fighting that gave me a huge headstart and made many oponents underestimate me and lose thinking of me as only "having 4 months of practice." I manage to win against people with 5+ years of experience. Of course my 4 months of training were VERY intense, much like the top kids on this show, and intensity sometimes doesnt help you to get a better technique, since the body takes time to learn and memorize, but for sure it helps to improve your fighting level overall, because you become more fit, quickier reflexes, overall stronger. I think since most of the actors are horrible punchers and kickers, this is very well presented in the show, they have the initiative, but not the technique, Miguel is a adult already, but the show makes very clear that he wont stand a chance against any of the adult experienced fighters, even the older ones like Kreese.

Also funny how none of the parents are concerned by what their kids are up to, the police never get called, they get smashed in the face constantly and just get up and carry on. 17 year olds can’t get that good at karate after only a year or two training after school. I also find it entirely bizarre that these kids would think it ok to just smash into someone’s house and fight. Lots and lots of flaws but I still love it anyway

The inside of the dojo was actually inside of a studio, and it was Soo hot in there!! However, the outside building was really part of a strip mall in Atlanta. I was one of the students in the cobra Kai dojo, but I didn't have a speaking role, so I know a lot about the bts of the first season! ☺️

Going old school it'd be better to say VFX. Thankfully it doesn't look like they used CGI for too much. Using some Practical tricks to get a "real" performance from the Actor or their Stunt Double(s). Always impressed to see the behind the scenes stuff. Thanks.

All shows do this, but it is a nice explanation. Especially the shows on the CW which are mostly superhero shows. Lots of wire work. Even the failed Wonder Woman show NBC tried about 10 years ago - lots of wire work, with the wires still showing in the pilot which were never removed since it was never picked up.
