I'd wanted to be a pastry chef, but life got in the way. I ended up going up into the military because they paid entirely for my college, and still have 2 years left to finish on my contract. Fortunately, I had the opportunity to work with culinary specialists in the military and it actually helped reignite my love of food! I get out in 2023, and I'm very excited to have the chance to go to culinary school and finally get to do what I've always loved.

I get out in a few more days. I’ll definitely get into looking into “accessing higher education” and the “boots to business” course cause they both show you what higher education and how to run a business. AND the military is a good way to make connections and network your way through. Good luck and have fun!!!!

@@lifesnova I actually started college at 16, I had most of my school covered with scholarships and paid the rest ($24k) myself while I worked 80 hours a week with full time school and other commitments. I worked third shift as a nursing assistant, drove to school first thing, napped in the parking lot for an hour and then got to class, left a few hours later and worked my day job before a few hours of rest and another night shift. Never had or took a day off. I bought my car in cash in full, am out of debt, have a great credit score and am saving up for a house. I didn’t know what I wanted to do with school but I knew I wasn’t going to spend my life in debt like all of my friends. I worked my butt off, saved and stuck to my budget. I lived with roomies and didn’t have help. I’m now working as a registered behavioral technician and I’m a happy camper. I may not have a degree but I’ve learned oodles of life skills and met amazing people. I’ll probably go back one day but I’m happy and content where I am now and for that I’m thankful :)

Me as a culinary student right now, I find that the time on my feet isn't that exhausting because I enjoy it so much. I find myself lost in it. I like being in that kitchen. That kitchen is my safe space. That kitchen is where I belong. I love the people in it. I love spending my time there having opportunities no one else gets in school. I get to do what I want and how I want and that's why I like it. It's so fun to me. And it makes me the happiest person in the world.

Here’s an alternative option that I’ve heard echoed around the industry and is what I’m doing currently. Go work in a restaurant for at least one year before you enroll in culinary school. It helps you understand the reality behind working in restaurants, and helps you get some background knowledge down before taking classes. At 18 I started working in kitchens and I loved it! Unfortunately, it is a gritty job at times, and I’ve seen a lot of people with a genuine passion for cooking pay thousands upon thousands for culinary school and then see the reality of many restaurant jobs and decide that it’s not actually their calling, and while thats fine! Its nice to know that before spending so much on school :). Now at 20 I’m enrolling in school, but I’ve actually been able to learn quite a bit outside of school :) wishing you all the success!

I wanted to know as you mentioned it can be stressful working in the kitchen, but is it stressful once your are done with ur job in the kitchen and you go home? Like ,once your are at home is it one of those jobs where u have to carry that stress of the job to your home? Or it's just spur of the moment things that you do at work and then done once u reach home.
@RosemaryWhisk4 жыл бұрын
for school, you carry a lot of the work and stress home with you - just because of homework and prep for the next class. however, when working in a kitchen for a job, you're able to leave most of the stress in the kitchen and can separate. a work/life balance is SO important. most people in the industry struggle with that - but it's vital! sometimes, after a long day in the kitchen - it takes me a few hours to wind down from the fast paced stress - but I can relax and separate my thoughts from work! :)

I want to go to a culinary school because I absolutely love baking and in the future I would love to own my own bakery, more recently I’ve been researching into what college I want to go to, and other things I might want to improve on to do my absolute best in culinary school. I’ve been both baking and cooking my whole like and for a very long time my dream has to work in some type of kitchen, I used to want to be a chef but more recently I’ve realized 1 I don’t like cooking as much and 2 it just wouldn’t suit me as well as being a baker. The one thing I’m worried about is staying motivated when I get there, because I honestly don’t know if I’d be able to keep up with everything, but I know I’ll most likely be able to do it! I’m 13 and usually when I tell people that I already know all this stuff about my future they usually say stuff like “but your so young, live in the moment, college can wait” but what most people don’t realize is that the earlier you start the better, because most people these days aren’t doing what they want to do with there life because they waited too long, anyway, this really helped thanks girly!!

I simply don't wish to be a chef as it's quite hectic and requires a big commitment In that sense so, is culinary arts something I should pursue in my bachelors itself?
@RosemaryWhisk4 жыл бұрын
I would say if you are not at all interested in working in the industry, take some personal-enrichment and/or continuing education classes about culinary. However, if you are serious about it and want to create your own small business in the industry or work out in the field, it would be the perfect tool in your toolbox. Although, you don't have to start out pursuing a bachelors degree. I would suggest finding a school that offers certificates, diplomas, and/or associates degrees. See how much you like it and where you want to go with it, and decide what to do from there! Best wishes!!

Many times I feel like my breed of Chefs (CIA ‘00’s) feels like we have the claim for how curriculum and the importance of a formal culinary education has fallen to crap…and maybe there is a bit of truth to that. I’ve tried to hire bright eyed and bushy tailed culinary school graduates that have turned out to be disastrous. BUT…I know there are many of us still out there and evolving. You are mostly correct and definitely eloquent in your description of what it’s like in the “academic” stage of someone that chooses this life. hey, do you think going to expensive culinary schools are worth it for opening your own business ?
@RosemaryWhisk4 жыл бұрын
Unless a person is dead set on going to a certain culinary school for the name, as long as the culinary school has a good reputation for a great education - I don't think that expensive schools are ever a requirement for owning a business. However, most of the larger, more expensive culinary schools offer bachelor degrees that combine a ton of business classes with culinary. So, that might be a good idea for someone wanting to own a business. But, they could also get a two-year degree in culinary or baking, as well as a two-year degree in business! There are so many options - especially for those who don't want to spend a fortune!

I wrote you a letter on Instagram. I’m almost 70 going to culinary school. I’m doing very well but I hate it. I absolutely hate structures military like format one instructor I called an asshole the Dean got involved. I don’t know if I want to do this anymore I will never ever work in a kitchen. I’m only doing this for myself and I’m a veteran, and it doesn’t cost me anything

Do you think only vegetarian cooking can be a lucrative career?
@morgancoons79664 жыл бұрын
Depending on where you live I think it could be! Vegan/vegetarian/gluten free/paleo (you get the idea!) cuisines are growing quickly :)

Watching this video, shows how passionate you are and how good you are- this is all that matters for you to be successful💓.. I wanted to ask how would le Cordon Bleu be for kitchen students, like what difference does it make being in France learning the knowledge they teach or just getting started with a job having a bachelors degree in France? I'm a bit confused as being in the final yr of my bachelor's in India. Please do suggest me some precious thing that would brighten my future up.
