I love how they subtly incorporate elements from Washington’s and Jefferson’s songs into each other. For example, in the beginning of this song, you can hear some parts of “History Has It’s Eyes On You”, while in the end of Washington’s last song with Hamilton, you can hear “George Washington’s coming home!” which sounds like “What’d I Miss?”. I personally believe that it was Lin-Manuel Miranda’s intention to begin Jefferson’s song with Washington’s song and end Washington’s last song with Jefferson’s song to show that Washington was no longer in charge and Jefferson had completely taken over.

Did you know Sally was actually his slave, but Jefferson loved her? Even though he had a wife, Thomas and Sally had like 8 kids. And his wife knew, and was fine with it, because she knew that Sally was his real love. And that’s why most of Thomas Jefferson’s desecendants are black now.

IzzyRose LovesBnha She was above the age of consent which was horribly low at the time, but he had a letter sent to him by a maid saying that Sally was either fifteen or sixteen, when she was in fact fourteen. Their sexual escapades started in France, where black people had rights, so she had the right to say no. Whether she said no and he forced her anyway, or she said yes out of genuine want, or just pressure, is ambiguous but easily predicted that she probably didn’t want it, as she had to be bribed to come back home. She was promised favouritism and for her children to all be released at twenty one. Now, Thomas died before this point, but his daughter fulfilled this promise. So, whilst it’s a good prediction to say that he raped her, been as in America, where black people did not have any rights, she had no right to say no, it’s still uncertain. He outwardly protested slavery whilst owning some himself so it’s safe to say he was a hypocrite. However he was a very anxious person and also suspected to be autistic, so unless he had a dramatic personality change when talking to Sally, it’s unlikely to say, even if he did rape her, that he treated her harshly outside of it, personally. You also have to remember that he was living in the standards of back then. If he lived now, he would be abhorrent to slavery, and would be raised on different morals and standards. Judging him on the standards of today is useless when he lived back then

He thought she was 15/16 when they first had ‘intercourse’ in france which is far above the age of consent in america at the time. (she was probably still raped no matter age of consent.) Also he lived in a different times, with different standards. The only reason why him fucking Sally was seen as a scandal was because she was black. SHITTY times had SHITTY morals. He’d be different now.
