Life on the shipping container is about to have enough solar panel to live comfortably!! But to get our solar setup running Lou needs to run a cable from the solar array to the shipping container compound. He rents a trenching tool but unfortunately runs into lots of rocks so that is how we ended up with this massive trench that took over part of our road!
In this video, I also cook a bunch, brew kombucha, and we have lots of outdoor family time!
Hope you enjoy all the progress :)
Big hugs,
Dana

What a delight to see Max’s standing and small step - I hope you could hear me clapping 😊. Also his excitement when Lou came home- priceless! What a lot you have accomplished is what is really a short time - all kudos to you both. I’m sure it definitely hasn’t been easy but look around and just see what you have. 👏👏👏😊

Three weeks ago my 5 year old walked in while I was folding the laundry and watching you guys. My 7 year old came in a little later and they were super interested in your channel. So over a few days I told them about your journey and showed them some parts of your videos over the years. We are german so they don't understand what you are saying but they asked me a bunch of questions about your life. Your storytelling is great for children! I think they would love a home tour when your office is ready. And they love Freya and Max! Happy greetings from germany! 😊

I think it's a testament to human resilience that despite the fact many of us did not receive the kind of support and attention Max is fortunate to have from Dana and Lou, many of us turn out to be productive individuals. Some of us even have successful love lives and raise children happier than we ever could be. I certainly will not be making any babies but I'm grateful to have been born with the strength and intellect to overcome, in my own way. I am full of hope and joy in the knowledge that we are raising a better generation. There's a lot more science on our side, and then there's amazing role models like Dana and Lou. There's much to look forward to when the future is bright for the kids.

Alex, I cant express how much your comment touched me to read! I completely agree, the human spirit is resilience, and it is beyond impressive seeing how people can overcome various hardships. We are also so grateful to be alive in this day and age, where we had access to diverse role models ourselves to inspire us, learn from, connect with in ways that would have been far more difficult, if not possible, 50 years ago. All the science and shared knowledge :) We are hopeful for the new generation, too :) Thank you so much for this comment ❤ Sending big hugs to you!

I always do everything around food, filling, service, measuring, pouring, tasting, fruitcleaning... above or on a tray as kluntz is bound to be there. Digging can be the ultimate mystery on a rural property… it’s kinda like a box of chocolates… you never know what you’re gonna get!! Been there… had the surprise and the challenge!! We have to replace the casings in our dug well as they are rusting out. We have not decided whether to go with cement casings or plastic casings, either way I hope we don’t experience too many surprises during the dig. Now that it’s September and this high school sewing teacher is back in the classroom next week, perhaps this well project of ours will be postponed to next year. Your late-season garden is looking great!! We have been blanching & freezing, canning, baking, and preserving the summer’s bounty from our garden and greenhouse. It’s a lot of work, but so worth it!! Good luck with your harvest and your solar power project. Thanks for sharing your amazing journey and great videos. Ⓜary🍁🇨🇦

I brew a lot of Kombucha n India and sold it there. You can use the overdue Kombucha as vinegar for salad, it is delicious. And if you guys ever see and buy or plant red Spinach, you take that instead of tea and you get a vibrant pink Kombucha, very tasty. That was our favorite to drink and to sell.

Just one tip for the garden. You should clean the weeds around the beds as well, otherwise the seeds with just keep blowing into the beds. Rake the stones regularly and that should keep it down. Also, you already had a mini digger, why would you ever think you needed a trenching tool? Oh well, good luck.

Have you thought about folding chairs in the kitchen so you all don't have to sit on the floor? You could then install hooks higher up on the wall to hang them on to keep them out of the way when not in use.

By the way, if you let your kombucha ferment too long, it just turns into a lovely kombucha vinegar! I use kombucha vinegar as my shampoo (it's popular to use this or apple cider vinegar for the "no 'poo" / shampoo-free lifestyle). I love how soft and healthy it keeps my hair, and I can now go 5-7 days without needing to wash it (whereas when I was using regular shampoo, I would have to wash it every 2-3 days before it would get too oily). It's also great in salad dressings. Or You can add a little to a glass of water to help with digestion (you can sweeten it a bit if it's too sour as well). And in my experience, you can leave the scoby in leftover vinegar for quite a while and it just is happy to just sit there until you feel like making a new batch (I've gone a month or 2 between batches.) You can also put your extra scobies in a "scoby hotel", which is basically a second jar with some of the kombucha vinegar and the scobies. Just periodically add a little new tea (sweetened of course), to keep the scobies alive. This is a nice backup, just in case your main batch does go bad / moldy, and a great way to save the extra scobies to give away to friends, too! Also, this could just be editing magic, but it looked you might have poured the new diluted tea mixture into the kombucha jar while it was still hot. It's recommended to let the tea cool down to room temperature (ish) so you don't kill the scoby. I usually let it cool down until I can touch it. But if the water you are using to dilute it is cool enough, it might bring the temperature down enough without having to wait :)
