Some ex-colonies wish they were still in the British Empire. Like Hong Kong. And several countries have regressed and gone backwards since the British left. Many of the territories that modern revisionist historians and activists refer to as 'countries' were not countries at all until the British created them as the man in the video said. They were simply warring tribes fighting over territories.

@@trespire The Jewish Lehi (Fighters for the Freedom of Israel) and Irgun (National Military Organisation) movements initiated violent uprisings against the British Mandate in the 1940s. On 6 November 1944, Eliyahu Hakim and Eliyahu Bet Zuri (members of Lehi) assassinated Lord Moyne in Cairo. Moyne was the British Minister of State for the Middle East and the assassination is said by some to have turned British Prime Minister Winston Churchill against the Zionist cause. After the assassination of Lord Moyne, the Haganah kidnapped, interrogated, and turned over to the British many members of the Irgun ("The Hunting Season"), and the Jewish Agency Executive decided on a series of measures against "terrorist organisations" in Palestine. Irgun ordered its members not to resist or retaliate with violence, so as to prevent a civil war.

Regarding India…there was no such place as India until the British arrived. There were instead, hundreds of Kingdoms fighting it out with each other, whilst at the same time trying to protect themselves from the Mughal Empire, which invaded India and took millions of people into slavery. The British stopped that, just like they stopped the barbaric Indian practice of throwing the widows of men onto their husband’s funeral pyres to be burned alive. The British introduced good governance, the railways, sanitation, and most importantly the tea plant to India, from which accounts for a high percentage of their exports. On top of this we built the Indian Army, brought in laws that treated everyone equally, public health, and tried to do away with the caste system which treated the poorest of people as “untouchables”. And I say we tried to get rid of the caste system, but the “peace loving” Ghandi brought it right back in once India became Independent. But it was the British Empire that was “evil”, not the Mughal Empire…because the British were white and the Mughals were South Asian and Middle Eastern. People have a very blinkered view of the past and try to apply modern day morals and norms to a time when the morals and norms were different.

@UCOloivcUPnZ8e6ZjuC7ALgA no I’m not. I never said the British were perfect, but compared to the Mughal empire it was not nearly as brutal, or ruthless, but the British were more effective at gaining control. However, no empire is good, the very nature of creating an empire means that others will suffer. But the British Empire, whilst not being good, was certainly not the worst…in fact it was far from the worst…yet people continue to blame the British for just about any evil in the world, whilst the Mughals, Ottomans, Spanish, French, Belgian, German, Japanese and Dutch get a “pass”, when most of them did things far worse than the British.

It starts to boil the water at so many minutes before the alarm goes off. Steam preasure forces the boiled water in to the prepared teapot and the alarm goes off. BS on India. The British were contracted by the Raj, the true rulers of India to collect taxes and administer the country. Some of the "Evil" the British did in India includes, getting rid of murderous cults like the Thuggee, abolishing Widow burning. Almost eliminating famine, what? you say. What about the Bengal famine? Prior to British Rule there were regular famines in India two or three bad ones per decade. During the British Administration new agricultural methods were introduced. New transport methods such as the railways, which allowed food to be transported across the country. India's population shot up under British administration. While individual got rich trading with India, what is the difference between them and the economic migrants plaguing the west today. Atleast back then the Indians profitted too.

The British Raj (/rɑːdʒ/ RAHJ; from Hindi rāj, 'kingdom', 'realm', 'state', or 'empire')[11][h] was the rule of the British Crown on the Indian subcontinent,[13] lasting from 1858 to 1947.[14] It is also called Crown rule in India,[15] or Direct rule in India.[16] The region under British control was commonly called India in contemporaneous usage and included areas directly administered by the United Kingdom, which were collectively called British India, and areas ruled by indigenous rulers, but under British paramountcy, called the princely states. The region was sometimes called the Indian Empire, though not officially.[17]

The India and British thing, bartering comes into play. They all wanted something out of the deal, India and the Britons were involved. The Raj also comes into play. The terms 'colonisation' and 'invading' are two different things. The British didn't really 'invade' India, that is social conscript that some have nowadays, mainly middle to upper class people see it that way with some sort of agenda that are kinda egotistical with narsasitic tendencies. You could say, 'full blown lefties in the Western world with no clue about the history'. There was, is a 'common ground' thing going on between India and Britain (certain parts of India, Pakistan is abit complicated to some degree). Many people from India call us 'Britishers' in a playful manner, also 'praise' us for the things. But some in certain groups and areas want radical Islam, take that as you want (but is true). There were bad actors that were doing atrocious things, but were sorted out back in England. The pain of death for some. Admittedly there were some bad actors that were doing atrocious things, but when brought back to England they were put on trial. Please look at both sides of the coin.

Cats Eyes are a reflective glass set in heavy rubber they define the centre of the carriageway and when a car drives over them the rubber contracts pushing the eye down keeping it safe and at the same time cleaning the eye. In the dark you can see the Catseyes reflecting back your headlights and defining your side of the road.
@iainsan
@iainsan 3 ай бұрын
Cats' eye reflectors are small lumps of metal with two reflective pieces of glass set into them. Embedded in lines along roads, they enable easier driving at night because they reflect a vehicle's headlights and show drivers where the lanes or edges of the road are. They require no power and many British roads have them.

New research by the renowned economist Utsa Patnaik -just published by Columbia University Press - deals a crushing blow to this narrative. Drawing on nearly two centuries of detailed data on tax and trade, Patnaik calculated that Britain drained a total of nearly $45 trillion from India during the period 1765 to 1938.

"India" not a thing before the British, despite the horrors of colonization, in the long run it actually helped India turn into the nation it is today. Not just by uniting it, but by bringing technology that made India great. And they can be mad about it, I understand, their nationalism needs to be founded on something. But did you know that the Romans did exactly the same thing to the British? They subjugated the British, but also brought technologies from around the world to Britain which later allowed Britain to become the first truly industrial nation and become so powerful that they became a near unstoppable empire... And I wouldn't have it any other way. Of course it was awful for the subjugated people at the time. But it was also the thing that made Britain great and now it is the thing that will make India great.

For example in India before the Brits, what happened to Indian wives when their husbands died? ........,..................................They were forcably cremated along with their husbands by the husbands family even though they hadn't actually died. The Brits outlawed this practice very shortly after gaining control.

Your view history of British involvement in India seems rather one-sided and not well formed. I know it's very popular to demonise the British and their history, however If we are to provide a balanced view of course the British did many things that were not good, they also helped India in many different ways beyond pure economics.

We never " colonised " India. When we packed up 75 years ago, we actually just left. We did leave. Railways. Roads. Buildings. Water works. Electricity . Hospitals. A functioning legal system. Police force. Civil service. A Navy. An army. An airforce. Universities. A common language. Just because it fell apart at the seams or never moved on is not Britains fault. The first thing Indians did in 1947 was split and go into a religious war that cost 1,000,000 people their lives. It is still is on going.

British brought slavery to North America. Haitian Revolution 1804 British Parliament passed the Abolition of the Slave Trade Act 1807. Britain banned slavery in colonies in 1833.
