I am learning so much from your videos. For instance, I am ashamed to say that I never knew that cow's hooves needed to be shaped and ground on a regular basis. And I never knew that the farmer probably has the equipment to do it himself. This was wonderful. All blessings upon you and yours.

@@Rx7man work great there is a learning curve to it . got to go slow and light to no pressure just use the weight of the grinder wear a good face sheild only use it on animals use to loud noises. I trim my percheron hoofs with it his hoofs are very hard the trim-tec makes trimming way fast and easy. and again go slow trim a little at a time these blades will remove alot horn instantly and you hurt the animals severely .you got to have full control of this tool it will shave off just about anything it touches so be safe if you get this tool.

Thanks a lot for sharing your experience. I would like to ask you about a grinder. What are specifications of a grinder that you recommend such as how many Watt or RPM or we can use any spec of the grinder? Thanks in advance (from Thailand)

Thank u that was very informative.. does using the grinder save ur wrists at all ?.. not more so I know its faster.. but does it add longevity to ur hands and wrists at the end of the day?
@TheHoofGP
@TheHoofGP 5 жыл бұрын
Yes it definitely does - the speed the grinder brings is important to only for me but it let's the cow away as soon as possible too which is obviously waaaaay preferable. But yes it definitely saves my wrists a little

I’m absolutely incompetent and will stick to knives. Of course my father-in-law simply trades service with a neighbour and they check up on our herd at calving, branding and banding times. Open pasture and pretty soft ground, (we keep them off the roads) so it’s rarely necessary for our beef. Additionally the vet comes through about twice per year unless we have an issue and we get significant discount because my mother-in-law works in town at their pet clinic, although we definitely don’t get priority.

I wonder if a cordless power plane would work? I have loads of experience with angle grinders but perhaps not the finesse to use one on a living animal. Maybe I’ll ask about and try out some on animals who have unfortunately been stricken down and died. (Still for me at least it is definitely a niche skill although it’s always great to watch a master at his task, no matter the task).

Is the same true for small ruminants like sheep and goats? What would you recommend for hoof trimming in that scenario?
@Rx7man
@Rx7man 3 жыл бұрын
I would think the copper one (for small numbers) would work well, you won't have the size of hoof to work with so removal rate shouldn't be as critical

I am in the states and I have a large herd of dairy goats and use a Hoof Boss disk tool $389.99 on amazon, with a variety of disks depending on the goat I am trimming. The orange handle hoof shears work great the more expensive version are the best about $40.00, cheaper versions available for $10.00, depending on your budget. The Hoof boss has now made a battery version sadly I only have the corded one but like anything you work around that. One day hope to get the newer battery version. I have no connections with this company other than being a customer.

So you shouldn't use a sanding or grinding disk?
@TheHoofGP
@TheHoofGP 5 жыл бұрын
Sanding disks can work on extremely hard feet but are very very slow and need changed very regularly. Some people who use a method called "Kansas Style Trimming" use sanding disks.

Why do you remove the safety guards from the grinders?
@TheHoofGP
@TheHoofGP 5 жыл бұрын
I actually feel that its safer for me and it gives you far greater visability. If/when you hit you hand with the grinder if the guard was on you hand would bounce into the guard and the blades would "bite in" to your hand more this way itll still cut you but you hand is thrown away from the blades
