Both @DisneyParks (Disney World) and @UniversalOrlando (Universal Studios) both offer assistance to guests with disabilities known as the DAS (Disney World) and the AAP or Attraction Assistance Pass for Universal Studios! Many guests may not know what I share in this video about the process of obtaining these disability passes. And if you are planning on visiting either Disney World or Universal Orlando or Universal Studios in Los Angeles, this video on information about the Disability Passes I think will be very helpful.

Universal Orlando recently now requires proof of disability through a third party private company out of Jacksonville, Florida to screen guests for disability access. On the IBCCES site, the application process includes a drop down menu with a list of potential accommodations including, but not limited to: wheelchair access, service animals, bathroom usage, reasons to wait outside line queues related to visual/hearing, and sensitivity disabilities. Under this drop menu it clearly states, that these accommodations are not guaranteed, and may need a financial cost associated with them. When I contacted the IBCCES chat, a private company, they stated in chat 1. financial cost of accommodation is up to the theme park, 2. To register and provide proof of service animal with them, 3. The cost of a service animal at check in at hotels, is up to the hotel. 4. To be ready to provide proof of the service animal at theme parks, through the IBCCES Card. Guests also have to pre register for this, with possibilities of at least 48 hours, so if a person decided to go to Universal Orlando in a spur of the moment, they would be denied accessibility. It is likely at check in at a hotel or to be stopped by a cast member and be required to show "papers" showing the service animal is registered through IBCCES. These are clear violations under the ADA. I have reported Universal Orlando to the DOJ Civil Rights Division which overseas matters such as this with ADA Violations. A video is coming to my channel explaining this more. Stay tuned for it. As a content creator, who has disabilities, who has morals, I cannot be quiet or numb to not speaking up for things that I do not see as morally correct. #universalorlando #aap #disabilityaccess #serviceanimal #servicedog #universalhotels #civilrights #ada

I was at Universal the other day and it was the worse! They made me feel like crap that I was asking for ADA compliance. I told them the multiple reasons that I needed it and the first girl denied me! I went to another Guest Services and told them what happened and that I was going to file a complaint with ADA. I then received it but it was a joke. I would come back at my time but ended up waiting the return time and then when I came back the wait was still another 30-45 minutes. I am immune compromised, have heat tolerance issues, I also have stomach issues with my autoimmune diseases. I have multiple disability issues. Disney has never given me an issue. The return times were spot on and once I returned there was minimum wait. I usually have a good time at Disney due to the fact that I am able to use the DAS. Universal was stressful, demeaning and I left halfway through the day because my disability was not treated seriously. I lost a lot of money because I didn’t get to do multiple things and my spoons wore out in a few hours due to dealing with the employees.

I worked at universal when they changed from giving it to anyone to asking why you needed the pass. But we still gave it for many issues. Now it’s impossible to get. I have severe issues with sensory input over a long time. I can enjoy the rides but waiting in the queues with all of the noise, smoke, dark lightning is horrible. I explained this recently and they said I need to get noise blocking headphones and refused to give it to me. Awful

So for universal you have to physically walk to each ride just for them to tell you to come back later and actually write a time down for you? This seems inconvenient and not easy for someone with mobility disabilities. I guess the good thing about Disney's is you don't need to speak or get judgement from anyone you select the ride and time and you can even go early before your time and scan your phone and walk through the line never needing to speak to anyone or walk from one ride to another just to get a time. They need to fix this.

A digital system at Universal, where you use an app would definitely be preferred, I did however, have not the best experiences at Disney with regard to getting the DAS for renewing it. So it was easier to get at Universal and they were nicer about it, but yes, they for sure should get some type of app or way that is more with the times.

For the uk if a ride wait time is 30 minutes and you are there at 10:am the next box they write 10:30 wich is when you can go on the next ride. Is that how it works or ypu go to the ride and if the wait time is 30 you linger around that area to avoid going back and forth? Can you have more than one ride or is it one at a time?

Thanks so much for watching and for your comment. Disney offers something called the DAS Pass at Universal the pass is called the AAP. Disney has a system that is a bit more advanced and digital, so you can technically use the online magic band app once approved for DAS, to schedule many attractions, however, every time I have tried this it does not work. But if you were to approach a cast member, it would be also digital on their end to schedule you. At Universal, they are not as advanced, and utilize a paper card, where you are given a come back time. Generally the wait time, is the amount you wait outside the line and you can go and do whatever you want during the wait time. With Universal you have to actually approach the line entrance to get a come back which could be very inconvenient if the ride were far away. It is one ride at a time either pass. If you skip a ride and go for a new ride, they will cancel out the old ride. I hope that info helps :)

I thank you for your honesty. I am disabled and used both parks before their change in disabled policy. I am going to Universal Hollywood next month from out of state and it will be the last time. I can understand because of non disabled people faking a disability to avoid paying more that they needed to make changes and I get it, BUT the disabled are always being punished and made to prove over and over again that they are disabled and it is bad enough we are disabled and have to live with it, but we get disrespected and abused on top of it. I want our lives to be a little easier by an ADA government reform where we take our medical info to a government office like DMV, file paper work and receive an I.D. card stating that we are disabled and recognized as such by ADA and the federal government. Then when we go to a park or anywhere else where we need assistance, we just show the card PERIOD! We don't have to do any more than flash the ID. Right now there is Knott's Berry Farm Amusement Park that is still treating customers decently and their entrance fee is $59. No B.S. with handicap. You have to still go to customer service, but I have not heard any complaints.

Even if that were possible on a small scale they average disability is not usually temporary and if you are saying I need it again your online file should reflect that. @@NicoleIleneGreensher I highly doubt that original CM who set up your pass faked setting it up as he could get in trouble for that. The system is not perfect and has bugs, for sure. I see it all the time because I'm a CM. But you didn't need to go to the entrance of the park from ratatouille to fix it. There is a blue umbrella right there in France. It was right there. They could have fixed that for you. They can also set up return times. Also refusing to use the app to set up return times is only hindering your own experience. Where they will decide if your disability has merit or not, or how to accommodate you... thing is.... the video chat, as I had experiences in the past, no one ever answers, but you always had the option of doing it at guest services, so it is a way for Disney to try to discourage those with disabilities making it as difficult as possible...

The sad part is Disney used to be my safe place. I could go once or twice a month when I was well enough to leave my house and now it’s just a nightmare when I go there. We just go there to walk around and get out of the house. I’m pretty well-versed when it comes to the disability access program and the amount of gatekeeping that I’ve had to put up with over the past few years since they’ve reopened has been ridiculous. It wasn’t always this bad, but technically, if you don’t have a mobility aid you’re supposed to be able to load in the disability area and like some rides like a pirates of the Caribbean they gate keep a really hard they won’t let you load! If you complain to City Hall and it does nothing. I really wish that these theme parks would start realizing that the solution to the problem is the hire medical professionals and let them restructure the program and make sure that the people doing the screening is actually someone who is qualified to do it. But that will probably never happen. But I can imagine there’s so many retired medical workers that would be happy to work at Disneyland to do the screening process. Too bad it’ll never happen.

You also can absolutely set up DAS over the phone. There's actually a benefit for doing that, because they let you schedule up to three attractions prior to your visit. So I'm not sure where you got your information, but it was wrong. You're also wrong about needing to find a cast member to set up a DAS. Maybe you visited in the past where that was the case, but ever since LL came out you do it all from your phone now.

Hi Helen, thanks so much for your comment. When you are visiting Walt Disney World, or Disneyland they as a company must follow the rules of the ADA, which is the Americans with Disability Act. Businesses including theme parks have to abide by this and if you are a guest traveling to the US, this would cover you as well. They cannot ask you for documentation or proof of your disability and they cannot look at it. They need to make a lot of improvements on how their staff handles disabilities. Thanks so much for watching and commenting :)

Oh my gosh - re-upping your DAS is not a big deal. Just go into Guest Relations when you get into the parks on Day 1. It took about 5 minutes to renew. I would not recommend doing the video approval in advance because the wait times online are long. Just do it in person on Day 1. Very easy.

The gentleman at guest relations who I went to for the DAS to be rebooted, took my photo, looked up my DAS information, informed me I was good to go, and then later in the day I would learn that this was not the case. A guests service member later on in the day ended up apologizing for the circumstances of the first cast member.

Are you talking about the GOLD AAP Pass? There is an Orange One, and recently I learned there is a gold one, which means a cast member will walk you to the front of loading area of the ride.
