Thanks for the shoutout, I'm blushing. When I 1st started out beekeeping, I had these two tiny tiny mating nucs (like 1 cup of bees in each foam cooler/hive) The strangest thing that coloring feed has taught me is what the above 2 nucs did & that was they would rob each other's honey! Each mating nuc had a quart of colored syrup, one red, one blue. Yet each had the opposites color. That blew my mind...it didn't make sense!

I think sugar water is over used. Let the bees find the good stuff. They aren't as dumb as you may think. As lush as it is there there is probably pollen for them.

That was an interesting experiment. Will send to my school's kindergarten teacher who teaches about bees.

Definitely need to add some wax to your frames. All that wonky comb building is due to lack of wax from the company. I reroll all my plastic foundation with a good thick layer of wax. Really helps the bees want to draw it out much more even and less likelyhood you get the wonky comb. Good job bud, keep up the learning!

I do too. I use a mini roller with a napped roller sleeve and meltdown wax, I roll it on heavy, they build out better. Less cross comb, less burr comb. In a dearth my hives will empty a half a dozen qt jars of sugar water in about 3 hours.

@@joeyl.rowland4153 what about a synthetic roller so no fuzz comes out? Do you just melt old wax and roll it on?

Hmmmmmm, last year a friekishly neon green nectar started showing up in my combs. I wonder if somebody nearby has seen your video too :)

I’m new to beekeeping, a quick learner, have found slow movements, don’t squash any bees and preplanning my movements for inspection all contribute to a tame and gentle interaction! When I stack a box or place the lid, I do it as to place the edges together not straight on but at an angle then rotate the surfaces so they align, sweeping the bees from the surface versus squashing them!

Dont pull frames from the middle. You may roll your queen.Start from one side and work towards the center.Keep up working your bees grasshopper and you will be an expert one day.

I know people who've been keeping bees for over half a century and don't consider themselves experts. Bees will always keep you guessing.

During the flow the bees turn sugar water into wax, during dearth they turn it into their own nutrition and wax.

Your frames don’t have enough wax on them. They shouldn’t build off the frame as they appear to be. It will become a mess over time

The frames were waxed by the company that I bought them from (Galena Farms). I've never really had any problems stemming from weird comb building in my hives and I remove it if it gets too bad. It may look like a mess, but they really only do that in the bottom super (at least in my experience). I also believe that they do it to increase airflow in the hive, so I try not to worry about it too much.

I decided a long time ago to never use plastic foundation. This video confirms that. I use natural wax with wire reinforcement.

@@tomjenkins4929 ….I’ve had wonkie comb build up in both kinds of frames….but more so in the plastic foundation frames….can’t really argue except for convenience of making up the frames ….

@@tomjenkins4929when I try that it gets all wonky when it's hot. Do you have to remove it all when harvesting or is it firm enough to reuse?

billions of bees are using plastic. I'm mostly foundationless but do have maybe 23 hives with plastic and none of them are laying comb like that.

They were not that angry. They were just defensive. Be careful putting brood frames on the ground, your queen could be on there. If they were really aggressive we would of heard them bouncing off your hood.

They are rejecting those frames. Smush it down and spray with sugar syrup or scrape and re wax it properly
