What Do Dealers Do With "Burn" Marks On Silver Coins? My coin shop website portsmouthcoinshop.com/ My help community coinauctionshelp.com/forum/ Join this channel to get access to perks: kzbin.info/door/IYtW3byS0u7rBmXg71pXQwjoin Silver coins will tone and often this toing isn't pleasing or it's uneven or spotted and takes away from the eye appeal of a coin. You can use e zest coin dip to remove this toning and brighten silver coins. In this video I show you how to remove toning spot off of Morgan Dollars. These spots happened because of pin holes in the mylar 2x2 and were unsightly.

It's wise to rinse them with distilled water. Lots of dipped Morgans have light spots from the residue left on them. Distilled water costs $1.29/gal at Kroger, and it will take a long time to use a whole gallon.

Dipping silver coins to restore them does produce great results initiallty but, thats not the end of the story. If the coin isnt thoroughly neutralized with distilled water, and even then, can retone something terrible over time. So once you are sure you have it free of any dip residue and washed with distilled water more than a couple times to be sure, it`s best to holder the coin in a way no outside air will get to it because like I mentioned, they will retone something ugly again at some point. Going back in a cardboard flip lined with mylar is the best bet usually. Also the staples will rust in time also and that can present a problem once again. Its kind of tricky to restore a silver coin that will stay nice in the long run. Dip is not just soap, there is a tiny bit of acid in it that makes it work and once done you have removed that natural micro thin layer of skin that was on the coin so removing that skin exposes the silver to the elements and boom, the toning process happens real easy. For a dealer you maybe should dip them and sell them fast before they start that retoning process.

I have 25 years experience and you’re not correct on what you said. I know cause I have coins I’ve restored for years and they will not retime unless they were already cleaned prior.

So i have a couple of questions. 1st does this work on copper coins or only on silver? Also if no then do they make a copper dip? Doesn't the coins come back from pcgs as "dipped" or "improperly cleaned" ? Thanks for all of your excellent advice and knowledge.
@CoinHELPu7 күн бұрын
No copper
@leechild46557 күн бұрын
@@CoinHELPu exactly right. never dip copper even if it says you can on the bottle. Only safe way to clean copper is with acetone but that doesnt brighten the coin up. it only removes organic material that could harm the coin. You can dip copper but it turns the coin a pinkish color and will come back as harshly cleaned if its sent to a holder company. Pro graders have seen it all so you really cant trick them.

Ice cold Ezest mixed 50/50 with water. Rinse in ice cold water. Pat then compress air until dry. That doesn’t do it, the coin wasn’t worth the effort anyway. I would personally left those spots on the coin. No added value other then they might not be picked last at recess. 🤷

ezest isn't strong enough to worry about diluting it, I recommend you find a copy of Coin Chemistry.

I have a collection of 600+ morgans all slabbed certified in MS 62 - MS 67. No toning No dipping No toning all holders in scratch free holders PCGS NGC ANANCS. I bought them for cash from a woman who needed cash and they belonged to her late husband. She spent a year going to dealers coin shows pawn shops getting prices. I over heard her at a pawn shop saying no way when made a best offer. She left I went to the parking lot introduced myself and she accepted my offer. I told her I would meet her at the local police dept. parking lot. She showed me slotted suitcases full of coins. I creamed my pants 👖 and paid her cash $100 bills. We both were happy. That was a few years ago. I never saw her again I still own and cherish my morgan collection even more than my complete all inclusive American Silver Eagle slabbed certified. I have 2 complete sets plus the complete 2021 2023 2024 morgan peace dollar sets.

You must have the industrial strength E-Zest. 😅 Mine would have never gotten those spots off so cleanly. I have found though, if I hold the coin with tongs, and swirl it or bob it up and down, it works better. Maybe I just need to get a new jar of it. Anyway, great results, thanks for the videos!

After you remove the coin from the possibly defective mylar flip, and dip it to remove those brown spots, do you put them in a brand new flip or leave them out in the open?

I've got to find me one of those small nylon jewelry baskets for coin dipping. Rather than running tap water I think pouring some distilled water from a jug over the coins would be better due to much less mineral content in the distilled water. Also rather than using regular paper towels, Kimberly-Clark makes a softer cloth-like paper towel called "Viva Signature Cloth' that is available at most grocery stores.

I've personally never used e-z-est, so I wasn't sure if it could be detected by pcgs or ngc or any other grading company, I've seen a lot of videos where people have used it and their coins come back as being cleaned or uncirculated details. Because it is and acid and it will sometimes remove the original luster from the surface of the coin field. So ,thank you Daniel for not blowing me up for asking a simple question like these other 2 comments did. I'm not new to collecting coins, I've just never cleaned them and I've heard quite a few horror stories about people who have cleaned their coins using this product and have lost value in their coins for doing so. I've also been taught the number 1 rule is to never clean your coins. 💯🙏
@alberthanson19718 күн бұрын
There are two choices. Either you leave the coins as found, including the 'burn marks', which makes them less attractive. Or, you can dip them and risk losing the original surfaces. For me, I would prefer the dipped coins.
@officialoverlander8 күн бұрын
I like new looking coins too, but some of the dirty ones I have i would like to send for grading, but if I clean them I'm possibly going to loose the value of the coin, I guess I'm dammed if I do and I'm dammed if I don't. The coins I have are key dates, but they're very dirty and most of the pennies are green and very very dirty, but under the dirt I have a flawless coin. SMH
