A couple of years ago I visited Finland. I visited the cities of Rovaniemi, Oulu and Helsinki. I thought they were all beautiful cities. We entered Finland from Sweden at the border at Haparanda. We had already toured Sweden, Norway and Denmark and Finland was the last country on our trip before returning to Australia. We were in the Nordic/Scandinavian region from mid October to Mid November. I had always wanted to visit this part of the world. I think I liked Norway and Finland more than the other two nations - not that I disliked them. It was a thrill to be inside the Artic Circle at Rovaniemi and visit Santa's village. Oulu was a wonderful place where I had the best meal I have ever eaten (in my life not just the trip). I had a mushroom soup and then I elk or reindeer it was delicious. Helsinki was knee deep in snow and wonderful. Public transport worked well to get us from place to place although we stayed in a hotel near the harbour that had been a warehouse and walking everywhere despite the snow was possible. We took the ferry to the island in the middle of the harbour and had a great day exploring and photographing things. The people were friendly and spoke English well so if we got lost we could just ask for help. I am not a religious person but the Lutheran Cathedral, the Russian Orthodox Cathedral and the Church in the Rock were among the stand out of beautiful buildings in Helsinki. The bridge across the river at Rovaniemi is a beautiful bridge and a wonderful piece of engineering. The big freeze was just coming and the ice was forming on the river - a spectacular sight for a person from Australia. The day we visited Santa's Village the temperature was -10.5 degrees and I thought it was fantastic. I would love to go back to Finland.

Finland is a way too cold place for me, but when i am an adult i will still stay here, because of the fact, that this country gives free education, free healthcare and because i can't simply leave finland just for another countries warm weather, i have to just stand back up, and deal with it. Also i like the culture.

You know every country has its ups and downs. Even if you left Finland for another country, you'd face some other issues there.
@divergentbee94523 жыл бұрын
Finland really isn't as cold as it is stereotyped to be. Look at temperature models for Finland vs Canada, or Finland vs United States, or Finland vs China, ie. You will see many parts of Canada, United States, and China have colder weather than Finland. Just a quick contrived example, plenty more examples.

The thing about Finnish cities is that they are mostly built after the Second World War. There were only three cities that had a population of over 100 000 after the war in Finland. Helsinki, Tampere and Turku. Helsinki was already a bit larger at 250 000. After the war everything was designed for cars and they didn't really expand the grid city, which is the real city so to speak. So there's only about 200 000 people in the whole Helsinki inner city or "kantakaupunki" in Helsinki. The rest are in the woods close by in concrete blocks.
