How strange. I watched your 2017 TED talk 2 hours ago where you mentioned the USA/UK memorial story. I liked it then and still do now. It must be pushing it's way to me for a reason. ; )

Dear Rabbi Sacks, forgive me for hitching a ride on top of your excellent video but do remember the story in the garden of Eden, It is human nature to be inquisitive and ask questions, human nature has a certain naivety, and is naturally trusting but that trust was abused hence we all ended up down the rabbit Hole that is now Good versus evil, senate v congress, republican v democrat, Eu v Brexit , confederates v yankees..terrible civil war , labour versus conservative, positive v negative. This has pulled us all into a world we don't belong, a tree inside or laid over us as human being's that has resulted in a mixture of order and chaos. Remember the original angle (sin) was to be with God/ Christ / the Divine, is high time everyone walked away from that tree. Now should be the time for Human nature to be in harmony with the planet, pack in this dog eat dog mentality , is getting us nowhere. Earth, Gaia, mother nature has been pierced by a violent sword that divides the world into the haves and have not's or divided as above both in our own society but in societies beyond, Africa in particular. Imagine steeping away from that tree , never touching ever again , only eating from the Tree of life...we would find more common ground. Charity is one of the leaves on the tree, I saw a friend of mine the other day, I asked him which charities he supported and he said Plan, I said wow, same here , I sponsor a girl in Ecuador . Not sure how well Ecuador is doing at the moment but I'm pretty convinced if everyone there understood and enjoyed fulfilling the lore , the place would be a paradise with no crime or poverty. Couldn't agree more by the way about people telling their stories, was engaged in similar conversation the other day, the young must listen to older generations to that they don't take their pearls of wisdom, knowledge and treasure to the grave with them. Tony Blair was responsible for closing the books soon after 911, it was like we are good, they are evil. The books need to be opened, I used to be an open book, then the liar idiot came along( see William Blake, great red dragon paintings) and told me to shut up, but its not in my nature to shut up, same for lots of other people I suspect.

Hamilton was a Jew. The Story ended with him.

@nakedBison69 Alexander Hamilton had at the time a 3100year old Story as a Jew. But none of his 7 or 8 children were Jews since his wife was not a Jew. So Alexander's story with the Jewish people ended with him. Up to 100 generations from when his ancestors stood at Mt. Sinai preceded his decision to marry a non-Jew, and he himself decided that he would break the chain.

Little known fact about the early life of Alexander Hamilton... He was a Jew, born on the Caribbean island of Nevis. His mother was Rachel Levine who was married to Yochanan Michael Levine. Yochanan, Johannes, was a real cad. He left Rachel on the island of St. Croix high and dry. He refused to give her a Get, a Jewish Writ of Divorce. Rachel moved to Nevis and had an out of wedlock relationship with James Hamilton an Anglican. They had two "bastard" children, James Jr. and Alexander. When Alex turned five, the Anglican Church refused to allow him into their schools because he was born a bastard. The Jewish Cheder on the island admitted him because according to Jewish law Alexander was a Jew born to a Jewish mother. According to Jewish law he was not a Mamzer, and even if he was, being a mamzer does not preclude a Jewish child from getting a Jewish education. For the next seven years Alexander was a star pupil at the Cheder. Later on in his life Alexander wanted upward mobility. So he adopted the American version of his father's religion- Episcopalianism.

Alexander would not have been allowed into the Cheder if his mother was a non-Jew. He was born a full 40 years before the founding of the Reformed assimilationist Judaism that would have accepted non-Jewish students. And he was a star pupil in that Cheder.

@nakedBison69 Excellent question: When I do not know the reason for something, all I can say is I do not know. For some reason Jewish law considers the out of wedlock affair with a non-Jew Adultery, but the child that would be conceived is not a bastard by Jewish law. The specifics that in Deuteronomy and the Oral Torah about Mamzers refer to the fact that a Mamzer can only marry a mamzer but that a mamzer must the child of a Jewish father and a married to another man Jewish mother or two mamzerim where both the Jewish father and mother are mamzers. What is more important in Alexander's case is that being a bastard or a mamzer did not preclude him from getting a Jewish education starting when he turned 5 yrs old. So his mom, Rachel, enrolled him in the Jewish primary school on Nevis and that the school recognized him as a Jew after the Anglican Church told him to take a hike.
