I just bugged out! Safe sanctuary and camp almost ready for occupation. 20 months ago I bought a little van. I had kept all my camping gear. Age 74, my farm rental of 8 yrs was sold, and coincidentally heard of little communities being set up on farms where the owners are awake, aware and taking "rescues" so I am officially a rescue, hidden in the bush. Still sleeping in my van and using facilities at the house, another couple have arrived. Camp will be permanent until things improve. More will come, building community. Solar equipment on its way for devices and a little cooler. Greetings from Australia.

Well done! I'm doing the same in Melbourne, Australia, every weekend. The Permanent Pandemic Bill was passed anyway, but we aren't going down without a fight! Then, I'll be moving back to the bush and going off-grid to escape all this nonsense. Even there, I'm having problems with the local council. They'll have to speak to my lawyers from now on. @@severusdeath without question. I don't have a bug out, but a get home bag. 35 mile from work to home, unless I am out on a project. Then a return to work, then home. I have small wheels to help, but would love to up it to a folding bike. Being located in a winter climate location, it adds to the complexity. Having done many hikes (100+ videos on my channel) I don't dilute myself with such romantic ideas of hard survival. 😅

It's something you should take everyday honestly. It detoxes fluoride and much more from your system among other things. You will actually feel a big difference in energy and focus after about a week on it. Nascent iodine is the best form fyi.

Nice kit - I would add some very lightweight items - water purification tablets - sharpening stone - needle- tea light candles (great for starting fire in wet conditions) - dental floss (very strong, great for making shelters, repairing clothing and making snares) - a couple of disposable lighters - tea/coffee bags (great morale booster) - barley sugar sweets (keeps blood sugar levels up) - it's a cruel world.

Bugging out is only for those who live in the cities realistically. Even then if you have a good group of neighbours that will stick together then bugging in is the better option in most scenarios.

I can highly recomend bringing a small mirror aswell, doesnt need to be larger than a compass. Can be used in order to signal or more importantly to be able to see some areas of your body that you normally cannot, like your face or some areas of your armpits etc if you manage to cut or otherwise harm yourself it helps a ton. Two more items i always put in my bag are 1-2 needles for sewing and a bunch of plastic strips if you need to quickly get a tarp or shelter upp, there are ones you can release once fastened and are mostly cheap. Great video Björn. P.s another thing that can help alot during rough times in the terrain is to also bring a small, very personal item. During rough excercises during my years in the armed forces this helped me out a ton, the simple thing of just taking out a carved wooden heart with my and my beloved onces name on really helped me out during long nights.

A tip for fire-starters: Soak small balls of cotton wool in melted vaseline and put them into a small container. Each will burn for a couple of minutes, while you add kindling, to get your fire started. Thanks for all the effort and advice you pack into your videos Bjorn. You're a valuable resource.

That little folding stove is handy in places with high fire danger. You can use twigs to cook a meal or boil your water, without needing to make a big fire that could easily get out of hand.

I keep life sustaining medications for myself but also my loved ones. Important documents (birth certificate, etc). Inhaler, epepen(adrenaline shot), first aid, 2 MREs, a small axe, a small saw, 2 small tarps, swiss army knife, needles + fishing line, tourniquets, fire starter, tooth brush/tooth paste/floss. My idea behind this bag is something to grab when my house is on fire more than anything, I don't want to be running around the house grabbing documents, medications, etc. I'm grabbing that bag and everything else can burn for all I care. I also keep a second bag with just the essentials as an alternate or backup plan, that one is for actually bugging out because it's lighter and meant for long distance.

My Rucksack is fully stocked for a 4-5 day evacuation, and my long-term Rucksack needs a few more items. Iodine pills are hard to find to protect your Thyroid in your neck. Be safe everyone. It's better to be prepared than to scramble to evacuate. Growing up with Swedish Survival skills, it began to be second nature to be prepared. I've learned so much from Björns Bushcraft channel.

Having lived through and worked in many of the worst natural disasters every to hit the US, most people will never us a bug out bag. People need to focus, at least here, in how to bug in. People normally wait for government or lack skills and hurt themselves. During last year's hurricane season, people burned themselves up,because they didn't understand fire or died from generator fumes. We have become so reliant on tech, that most won't survive a crisis without government intervention. Tell people how to bug in! You'd be doing a service!

I basically agree except for Any premise of "this or that" which I totally disagree with, meaning that the things Bjørn shares are good, yet it's wrong to assert that everyone everywhere needs to do the same specific things. The universal idea is to return to a concept of self-reliance. If people even practice a few basic camping out skills it would go a long way, even when the need to "bug in" arises. The norms of modern life make this psychologically much harder, if not near impossible, for people to rehearse doing the right things at home, but they might do some of them on a trip to the woods. Even self proclaimed "expert" wilderness hikers (all over KZbin) have next to zero survival skills these days as clearly evidenced by their daily, almost hourly fixation on their devices even when they go beyond cell tower range for days on end. As for the dumbed down masses, it would be nice if they weren't such a drain on others, but the root of that problem has more to do with their entitlement mentality than their lack of practical skills tbh.

As of this moment, the Supreme Court has halted all mandates that were due on the 6th of this month and the 7th of the next month. Needle and thread for repair of gear that can't be replaced again is a good idea and weighs nearly nothing. Plus needles are a good addition to your first aid to remove splinters, etc. Paper and pencil are handy for us old farts who can't remember shit. But overall I agree with your sentiment, hand someone with no skill, experience, or knowledge and the biggest bag in the world won't help. I run tool heavy. Axe, froh, draw knife, hand drill and anger bits, carpenter hatchet, and tomahawk, bow saw, 4-6 various knives. I can build or make anything with these tools. To me they are worth the weight. I have the rest as general essentials.. Cooking, hygiene, fishing and hunting kits. Fire kit is a must of course. I also carry a medical kit with surgery kit and a supply of antibiotic medication. Bedroll is my military -80 mummy bag. A select food package that can last me 3 weeks, maybe a month if supplemented with wild game and foraging. Weight total kit 45 lbs

In short, your tools are only as good as the skill you posses. In survival your most important tool is your mind so keep it the sharpest.

Last summer took a few kids camping. They're raised by their grandparents who don't camp. The one boy brought his major new purchase, an old rubberized canvas German surplus rucksack. It was funny because for 15 years years I carried the exact same bag all over Alaska. On every walk away from camp, trapping during the winters, it went 15,000 miles in a canoe. I paid twenty bucks for it in the early nineties. Now they are $40 at the surplus store. I carried the same stuff all those years, a wool army blanket, gun cleaning kit, bullets, 80 pound oregon line(strong string). A 50 foot rope(usually for tying up moose legs when skinning.) A lot of ziplocks and plastic t-shirt grocery bags, hooks and fishing weights and lures. A plumbers candle, my hunting knife, and a few bic lighters in a ziplock, in another ziplock and another ziplock, and one thing that saved my butt once, a magnesium fire starter. That bag is still in my little cabin, still with the same stuff in it.

The iodine stuff is also sometimes referred to as a "thyroid blocker" because it blocks radioactive iodine from being absorbed by the thyroid. It apparently does this by saturating it with non-radioactive iodine before the bad stuff can get a chance to absorb.

I am always interested in the different perspectives of those who continually state that they have the means to Bug Out in the event of a nuclear war. The entire world has no understanding of the consequences of such an event. I serviced on a Nuclear Ballistic Submarine during the Vietnam War . My Boat was built in the 1960’s and was the first in her class. She carried only 16 missiles. If all these missiles were launched, and no country were capable of destroying any of the missiles by their counter measures, This one launch would be the being of the end of the world. Unfortunately his joke declares how foolish, and arrogant our national leaders are, and our intellect and efforts are placed in destructive toys.

I've been working on my bugout bag for 4 years. I just ordered the last few items I needed. I'm female, I hate being cold, uncomfortable or sick. I'm planning for long term and I'm single and 62. Which means even with ultalight equipment, my bag is still a bit more than I can carry for very long. Therefore I bought a big game cart to haul it through the woods on. I have more than I need but I like to be prepared. I an set traps and fish and even hunt with my gear. I can camp and cook a light fires. I also have medical items a compas and light. I also included trade items. Additionally I have warm clothes rain gear and clothes to wear while I'm washing clothes. Oh, and I have water filtration as well. No bright colors.

My favorite item you showed was the first aid kit in Norsk. Really liked the multi use coveralls. I carry a similar bag in my vehicle to get home or survive if stuck somewhere. In rural Minnesota, you may not get a second chance. 9 hour candle for warmth, extra pair of wool socks, a couple plastic bread bags to cover the socks, mittens/choppers/gloves, compass, heavy space blanket.

I believe the U.S. had a law that went into effect during our Civil War, stating something along those lines. I’m sure they’d dig it out if they needed an excuse. Btw, thanks for helping people see an example of how to set up a bug-out bag. There’s another very helpful individual from the state of Maine who provided very detailed information about setting up bug-out bags; he comes from the angle of “special ops” survival, since he did that for years. He titles himself the “Maineprepper”. He defined several “levels”: Level “0”: Wallet sized, fishing line, fire starter, emergency blanket, etc. for if you get caught away from your car & home & unable to go back for your stuff, but only good for a couple days. Level “1”: A small bag to keep in your car. Decent knife, some dehydrated food, water bottle, etc. should get you by for a week, maybe two. Gives you time to set yourself up somewhere, if possible. Level “2”: Ruck sack w/ belt strap, carry sleeping bag, maschetti, tarp, other tools and weapon(s) for longer term survival. Pack level “1” bag into this one. Keep in closet, ready to go. Level “3”: An old (preferrably 4WD) vehicle packed with ammo, fuel, bigger tools & supplies. If you use this vehicle on a normal basis, then keep everything in a particular place in the garage or shed, ready to go. Level “4”, of course, is your homestead. If you don’t want to lose it, you really need to build a close alliance with neighbors you can trust, who will group together. The primary thought is if government fails and gangs start raiding houses. You need to have numbers who are willing to stand & fight. You start SOMEWHERE. Start w/ level “0”, so as not to feel overwhelmed. But keep at it steadily.

I have a streamlined "urban" version of this bag that I actually use as my every day bag. It's a waterproof bike messenger bag. Two items I would add to your bag: a travel bamboo utensil set (rolls up, very light weight and indispensable. It includes a bamboo knife, spoon, fork, straw, and chopsticks). One kit could suffice for 3 people if necessary. I also recommend a red bicycle "flasher" for emergency signaling. LED bike flashers are super bright and have multiple modes as well for signaling or sustained light.

My hunting day pack doubles as a B.O.B. My 2 cents: -I second the motion for a regular steel water bottle. Aside from being able to use it to boil water over a fire, they tend to be more durable and less prone to leaking than some of the fancier plastic water bottles (and for the love of god don't get a Contigo, they're junk). -While it's good to have a rudimentary firestarter like a ferro rod, it's also good to have something more capable of producing a stronger flame. I keep a lighter handy, and even though I don't smoke there are tons of people who do and they tend to lose lighters quite often (last time I went camping I picked up 3 lighters scattered between camp and the lakeshore). -Fire starting material. Obviously there's tree pitch or dry pine needles, and most of us know about corn chips or cotton balls caked in vaseline, but fun fact dryer lint works well too. Of everything listed, dryer lint is also the most likely thing you'll find in any given household. P.S. 14:14 you're thinking of the thyroid gland

An observation, no pack is really waterproof besides the roll down canoe bags. The actual material may be but water always gets in through the zips and seams. It's always worth lining the pack with a waterproof liner or bin bag. I once had a sigg bottle but the lid froze and I couldn't open it, since then it has always been plastic. I think a strip of inner tube and a candle is useful for fire lighting. A hand written list of contacts as well.

Bug out bags are something that can really depend on individual situations. A few years ago, I lived in a housing co-op in the downtown of a major city. The co-op had a lot of wheelchair adapted units, and an in-house home care company, to support independent living. Many of my neighbours had some sort of physical disability ranging from those who had birth defects requiring 24 hr care assistants, to accident survivors requiring various mobility devices, to people who were simply getting older and having a harder time getting around. One year, there were massive wildfires throughout the province, and the possibility of our city needing to be evacuated. I researched bug out bags for an article in our community newsletter, and they were *very* different for our situation. If the SHTF in our area, many of my neighbours would have to shelter in place until emergency personnel could evacuate them. For them, it was more important to have things like a good stock of their prescriptions, a list of all their medications and a copy of their care plan. Even first aid kits had to be quite different from a basic kit the average person could use. In many ways, it was more like a bug "in" bag, to help them survive until they could be evacuated.

@Chase Williams my husband is now on permanent disability and is on opiates. With the restrictions on opiates, he couldn't get refills until 3 days before he ran out, at the earliest. We live in the boonies, and the nearest town we can get prescriptions from had to special order them. That sometimes meant they couldn't get the refills in from the city until after he'd run out. He is already on the maximum allowed dosage, and they just take the edge off his pain, so going without for even a day is really horrible for him. If he ran out of refills, he had to go to his doctor (a long and painful drive) and get the new prescription written by hand in triplicate - no faxing to the pharmacy allowed. The pharmacy had to get a copy within three days of the doctor signing the prescription, and the fastest way to do that was for us to drive to the town our pharmacy is in and hand deliver it. Then the pandemic restrictions hit. I guess they realized how impossible this was, and the 3 day restriction was waived, as was the requirement for hand written prescriptions from the doctor. The pharmacy could just phone his doctor when the refills ran out, like any other medication. He could order his bubble packs early enough to not worry about running out. Recently, the pharmacy stopped doing his bubble packs at all; they are now done in the city and shipped to them. The last time my husband ordered refills for his injections to be delivered (because I'm not allowed in the pharmacy without a mask), he got his bubble packs, too. He hadn't even asked for them, because he still had a couple of weeks left, but whoever is doing the bubble packs in the city had just gone ahead with his refills and sent them to the pharmacy. This is the first time he's been able to have more than a month's supply of *all* his medications since he was put on the opiates, and you wouldn't believe what a relief that is!

I would also pack duraflame starters they're small compact and light you can break them up into chunks to start a fire much easier

saturating the thyroid gland with normal iodine will feedback our body not to absorb more iodine (so avoiding radioactive iodine that might cause thyroid cancer later on)

NOT REGULAR IODINE TABLETS. Iodine is poisonous at levels you would need. The tablets are Potassium Iodide. NOT iodine ! POTASSIUM IODIDE. Difference ! ! Be Careful

Personally I always thought going to a school would be a good option. You’ve got typically fencing, so got a natural defense, there’s plenty of places to sleep and stock up weapons, the canteen will keep a supply food and water, and you’ve got an oval where you can grow your own food.

Thank you for being you....have several Coleman products that have been used for 30+ years ( daily use by family of 5 back in the 60s everyday for a year and at least annually for a couple of weeks) are in my bag. My TP is a cut up towel which I boil for 3 minutes swish around in pot add soap/baking soda swish around with stick and boil 5 minutes more making sure the TP is covered then God willing and the creek dont rise they are played out on stone to dry in the sun! Decades ago I used the wrong leaf to wipe and the experience left a lasting impression!
