This is fascinating to see how they did this song live, but the record version is even better!

Both this and "Don't Touch Me There" were on the b-side of the UK release of "White Punks On Dope" - one of my favourite singles from the mid 70s. Great, under-appreciated band.

Lead singer Fee Waybill would have at least 10 costume changes during a concert, to match the song. His idol was Danny Kaye, and Fee is an 'entertainer', for sure. Imagine what he wears when they play "Mondo Bondage"! Quay Lewd is an alter ego, too.

Awwwww. That was sweet, gentlemen. My favorite part is that long outro, too. I would probably give it a 7. It's is, at least, interesting. But it's not breaking any new ground, musically, nor is its score particularly sophisticated. It's fun. So the quest continues to find out what makes the cut and floats Jim's boat... And Jeff's too. Your taste is fairly spot on. I forgive you for Morrissey. Lol.

Chuck Barris was really all i needed to see. For anybody who remembers The Gong Show and the surreal Mr. Barris, i would highly recommend that you see CONFESSIONS of a DANGEROUS MIND (2002) Sam Rockwell, George Clooney, Julia Roberts. I do remember this one (What Do You...). It's almost like a very distant relative of Tom Waits' Step Right Up. There's a song (the studio version) you might want to check out if you don't know it. Peace

Thanks Blue - I've seen "Confessions...." but it's been a long time. And as a matter of fact Step Right Up is one of the very few Tom Waits songs in my library! "Christ you don't know the meaning of heartbreak" lol

@@jimtarrant1538 Your dad could probably tell you just how many actual tag lines from commercials (with which we were blatantly barraged) were used in that brilliant scat diatribe. That song stands as the most singular FY retort to ad-men of all time. He even threw in W. C. Fields' carnival barker - "Get away from me kid, ya bother me". The inside of Waits' skull is scary in the most phenomenal way. 'Glad you approve -

This is, unfortunately, the worst version of this song live that I've ever heard. I do love this song, but this is unfortunate for a first listen.
