There’s a place for the longer videos, but I totally agree that short and to the point is often better. If you’ve got 10 minutes of content that’s going to be valuable go ahead and put it out there, but if 9 minutes of it is filler just so you can have a longer video… But these are things we learn as we go. I’ve been guilty of adding pointless filler to videos myself in the past. 😇

@@BasenjiAdventures I've grown up or had family raise 7 basenjis, and all were different. Its a really cool thing to hear. Never had a loud one, and only a few "garoo'd". But that could be due to most being rescue dogs.

When I was a kid I was in a pet store in the 70’s and I saw a Basenji for the first time. They let me take him in the playroom, he got excited playing and yodeled. Freaked me and the clerk both out, neither one of us knew they did that!! 😹😹

Beautiful! I always shake my head when people talk about the basenji being a quiet dog. Yes, they can be, but that should NEVER be the reason to get one, and you can easily get neighbor complaints if you have a noisy basenji in an apartment, just like you can with any other breed. A quiet basenji puppy can grow up to be screamer, a howler, a crier or a combination of the three.

Pity, I've got tinnitus thanks to barking neighbors' dogs, can't stand even barking on tv. I'm fine with howling, often felt myself like howling, dreamed about Tibetan mastiff to bark few times and stop them. Owners were 'deaf', one narcissistic.

That’s usually caused by separation anxiety. Do you know how long she’s had her Basenji? Ours did that at the beginning, but once they got used to the home and being alone they didn’t do it anymore.

Since dogs experience much of the world with their sense of smell, here is a way to help your pet to deal with separation anxiety. Wear a T shirt or some other piece of clothing that you don't mind if it gets ruined. Wear it for at least 3 hours before leaving the house without your pet. Wearing it to bed overnight is best, if you can. I wore mine when I went running or working out. Put the T shirt somewhere that the dog has access to. Your scent will be a great comfort to your dog. In addition, leaving a radio or TV on while you're gone helps a bit, too. Did you ever wonder if dogs can tell time? They seem to know when certain people will be home soon & wait at the door or watch, through a window. Each individual smells different to a dog. Each person's scent is all over the home. When a person leaves the home, to go to work, for example, their scent begins to fade. When the persons scent is at a certain stage of fading, then they come home, the dog knows when to expect the person back by the strength of the scent. Pretty cool, hmm?

We watched the show this morning and they did have a Basenji in the hound group. It even got chosen from the line to come forward but of course it didn't get picked and barely got any camera time at all as usual. We're not sure why the basenji never gets any camera time in the shows but they don't.

I remember one time me and my mom went to a park, and we met someone who was walking their Basenji. My mom didn’t know about the breed and was asking about it. When the Basenji owner mentioned that the breed doesn't bark, she said, "They must be a good apartment dog, then." And the Basenji owner said, "Well, they yodel and do a bunch of different noises." Ever since then, I've been meaning to look up a video to hear what they actually sound like, and this video just showed up in my recommendations.

Grew up with basenjis and love them so much. I miss my bb (gone over the rainbow bridge long time ago) so ofc I clicked. We used to wind him up something awful, just to get him to howl until mum got mad lol My parents had basenjis right up until about 5-10 years ago. (now, my mum has a crazy little chihuahua mix rescue who doesn't like anyone but mum. And me, apparently. 🤷)

I know this is late. I rescued a Basenj terrier mix last year. It has a bark but it's the weirdest sound. It's ridiculously loud but flat like hitting a big book off a desk, Her growing is almost rattling. Tail is long and half curled but will coil when super alert. She is a orange white colour her brothers were black and tan. Love her but it was hard going with training. Hated the lead but loves it now and they chew the hell out of everything.

It is a great breed! Definitely not for everyone, because they’re high energy and need a lot of walks and/or playtime, but they are highly intelligent and very catlike, so for the right person, they are a great dog to have! 😊

Radar makes ALL those sounds + he can bark! A noisi boi. The funny "yo-o-wf" yawning sound makes me laugh. He does that a lot when he wants attention. And he can ba-roo! He only barks when he gets super EXCITED, like when someone strange walks past on the sidewalk or he sees his arch nemesis, the SQUIRREL

Ginger had a warning/startle bark. It was hilarious. If someone knocked on our door sometimes it would startle her and we’d get one loud bark. 😂
