This is an excellent and informative interview, thanks for posting this. I'm late to the party but I have a bit of an in-depth question: Do you guys have any perspective/advice that pertains from making the jump from the local bar scene circuit to playing bigger theaters and working with a merch company? For context, I'm an artist/screenprinter and in the past I've made merch for local bands who are buying directly from me and then selling it themselves at their shows. I'm redesigning my screenprint business to be a hybrid of the tour merch model and merch manager. In the print biz, the tour merch company effectively owns the inventory and the artist/venue/screenprinter each get their agreed upon cut after the merch manager sells the stuff and settles up. SO I guess, to be specific, where is the point at which a band makes the switch from having their friend make their shirts to having the merch produced and managed by a merch company? Is that something that happens when a band gets a record deal or invited on a tour or...? Sorry if this is a complicated question, thanks again for posting this awesome interview and for taking the time!
