Hi Afnan, Interior designer do far more than just decorating,you learn decorating in interior design program .To answer your questions yes interior designers can be a decorator at the same time .To be a decorator you might not need to go to get bachelor or diploma. Perhaps just the interior design certificate would be enough. Some college have the interior decorating program .How ever by taking interior design as your major you become both .I hope i this answer your question. Wow you only 13 and you know what you like ! That is amazing 👏, the earlier in life you start the more successful you become, you definitely need to go to university to be able to become an interior designer, but i do suggest few things to start now to make you stronger in your career . Start sketching rooms , furniture, lighting, any ideas simply put them on your sketch book. If you have access to computer, download sketch up and photo shop and start making your self familiar with these two programs . You can learn so much in KZbin. These are not technical software but i think it will help to boost your creativity in a good way .try these tips and reach to me in a year ! I will give you more advice. Cheers-Aida 👍

Just an advice from someone older try to watch videos like these find interior designers in your area and ask them about work and studies . Also if there is a specific college or university you should know what are the grades needed what they study and try to go there if they have an open day and talk with the students. I suggest this methode for anything you are interested in as i once was in your shoes but since I've never made effort to know more about my intrests i ended up in a major i Don't like

If you like to focus mainly on the exterior and not as much on the interior detail then i just suggest you study architecture and not interior design. I think you are very young so you have more time to study , if i were you i would start with architecture and if you feel you have more passion toward interior then just simply switch to interior design. What is an architect vs interior designer?

Both architectural and interior designers learn the basics of the design while interior designer focuses on the architectural and design of the interior the architect focusses on the exterior. If the project is smaller than 600 sqm then interior designer will do both exterior or interior like a single family house how ever if the project get bigger such as highrise buildings then architect will design and draw the exterior and foundation and details and interior designer will focus on the interior detail layout , millwork, RCP,etc.

I know not if this is common at all places but in India they demand civil engineers (as there are many of them) for these interior works. Can you please shine some light over this issue? Hi thanks for watching my videos, civil engineering is completely different, usually we need structural engineer signatures on our drawings if we are removing any load bearing walls and that is what civil or structural engineer can do , but interior design and architecture is completely different field and not related to civil. Hi these days most of the work gets done by computer. Interior design is like architecture but it is mostly focused on the interior of the building instead of the exterior part (foundation, roof,etc) If you don't like drawing you either need to hire a good assistant for your self to draw your ideas , you can draw by hand but trust me as things getting more complicated it will be hours and hours of drawing that you won't get paid for . The speed is important as well ,you need to be able to finish a project in a timely manner to make your clients happy and also make money. I hope that helps Cheers-Aida 😊

I'm a contractor, first time working with a wannabe designer who after watching this, turns out to just be an interior decorator. Thank you for pointing out that everything should be documented, this interior decorator who hired us is trying to be a GC and changes her mind on stuff constantly then complains about them being change orders. I wonder if being an interior designer should require a license that requires working with a licensed designer as part of licensing. That way everyone who can match floors and wall colors doesn't think they can be an interior designer.

I'm currently studying interior design here in the Philippines wherein we need to the pass board exam after graduation before practicing, can you suggest that I'll go apply abroad? because here in the Philippines they let Architects do the interior designing process😥 even though we designers should be the one designing 😢

Hi, first i would like to thank you for watching my videos. To answer your question i have to say, i totally understand but don't think this is only happening in Philippines,because there is a fine line between architect and interior designer sometimes the job can get done without interior designer or without architect. Interior design is a new profession so it takes time for people realize what exactly interior Designer do. I do suggest you apply for the board exam, specially if you are going to stay and work in Philippines, if you decide to live and move somewhere else you need to update your education according to that country and maybe pass other tests before start working.
