John Laird Yes, I talk to Donnie all the time, most recent 2 days ago. He is a retired attorney living in Rogers, AR. My dad was friends with their dad, Mr. frank. It is rare for me to have my mind changed but Barry Switzer has done that. I was convinced Oklahoma had botched the hires and was somewhat happy with that. I wanted it to be a botched hire. Oklahoma messing this up is good for the Big-12 as Oklahoma moves into the SEC. But, no one knows more about Oklahoma than Barry Switzer and he is not the sort of guy to hold back or sugar coat his opinion and he says this is an excellent set up for Oklahoma. So, sigh, I have to go with that, drats, not what I wanted.

I've heard people say Barry was cocky I probably would agree with that statement I don't know if cocky is the right word but one thing is for damn certain in the name of all things holy he backed up what he said. Anybody that played Barry and the Sooners had about a 90% chance of not only losing but getting plowed into the t u r f f and embarrassed. Barry was straight speaking and added a lot to the game he is a lot like Bob Stoops in that regard and I respect both of them highly and Coach venables seems cut from the very same cloth himself. And I have major respect for him also his morals and character and his integrity is on another level.

Getting another Lincoln Riley wouldn't do anything but keep us at 10-2 with a flashy offense but no defense heading into sec. Barry is trippin

Facts! I was shocked to hear his opinion on this. Definitely wasn't what I would expect to hear from him.

Truth, but Barry is Barry. When he was a coach offense was everything. Because the defense was expected/respected and you didn't have to worry about the DL. I think we'll come back around to that. I tend to think Riley was overrated and the real talent was on the field, not wearing the headphones. Anyway. Venebles will get the D in line and he has so far hired the right guys. Things really are looking up for OU.

The reason is he didn't want the shitty Auburn job, or jobs like that one, he wanted to coach at a blue blood. Venables was the highest paid, most respected, most credited with the team success coordinator in the country. He has coached in 8 of the last 20 national championship games.
