I love Marilyn and every movie she made. However, if there was a camera looking at her she did not have a candid moment. Marilyn was always ON when the camera was pointed at her. Every glance, every small movement was deliberate to make whatever impression she wanted to make at that moment. For this reason we don't know and will never know the real Marilyn. She will always be a mystery.

How someone treats you directly correlates with the way you treat them (unless you're an antisocial personality, they treat everyone poorly at come point and favor sadism). If someone dislikes her it shouldnt immediately be seen as a her character being defective, perhaps the person speaking out was running a smear campaign (as often happens when a woman is highly sought after and desirable. People love to cut down those they can't have and those they want to be)

She was so anxious of being on camera, particularly doing a comedy scene, that she would get so sick she would end up being terribly late to the set. To me, and I don't mean this in a critical manner, this would have been just an "Ok" bedroom farce kind of movie. Of course, like most Of Marilyn's fans, I still wish she could have completed it. I think Marilyn knew it was not going to be an artistic showpiece but rather a light hearted average comedy. Later, it was redone with Doris Day and it was retitled "move over darling" and did all right at the Box Office. For Marilyn, at age 36, I don't know how much longer she could have kept this image up. I think that's why she wanted to be taken seriously as an actress and yet she was also trapped into this blonde Goddess image that she really couldn't escape.

Yeah, I agree. As she had a very off beat choice of words. Very old fashioned. I don't believe she would have said scared of humans as it doesn't fit her lexicon. She was always scared and like a child but had a frankness about her from what I see. An honesty about her emotional state which is also child-like with a quick wit, especially with authority. That is what I have put together. But none of us knew her. For all we know she could be saying "scared of manure".

Cukor is saying..."Look, n' she's scared of me" ...and Marilyn in an incredulous, sarcastic way, utters... "scared of you, Mr...." ....The word 'not' should have been part of what she said, but it was under her breath and in her mind. She was concentrating on her lines and I don't blame her for retorting back in that manner...Cukor didn't make things easy for poor Marilyn. I'm glad she stood up for herself at that moment....

Agree. My take is that Cukor was possibly describing something about her characater in the movie being "scared"OR that there was nothing to be scared about?.... Maybe we just "hear" what we thought she said? To me, it sounded more like she said "scared of humans." The famous swimming pool scene was a "closed set". There was supposed to be no one around during the shoot except the camera operator(s) and the Director.

@@Frank-mm2yp Well, actually this scene is after the nude in the pool. What I think happened is that Marilyn, being wrong many times in this scene, was impatient to those of the production team, so she feared the reaction of Cukor and the rest of the team to her.

George was a master but he could not accept that times were changing and his harsh ways were not going to be tolerated much longer .Even on a bad day by God it was Marilyn and he did nothing but waste her time and exhaust everyone on set for what - it the end he had a 40 minute pieced together movie with no sound ending and Marilyn Dead . Something just does not ad up - Marilyn had survived Misfits ready to show the world she wanted to act - SO SAD

I loved MM in Seven Year Itch. Although, i think she shined in it, with undeniably, master direction from Billy Wilder. Generally, aside from Niagra, i found Marylin's roles redundant and methodical. IMO, she had to "work too hard" to get shit done. I just never thought of her as truly organic
