What does it mean to delight yourself in God? You've likely heard Psalm 37:4 before which says, "Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart." But what does that even mean? What does it mean to delight yourself in the Lord? And when we delight ourselves in God, does that really mean He will give us whatever we want? This tends to be a verse that gets misused a lot, so in today's video we're doing a Psalm 37:4 Bible study to understand what it actually means...and it may surprise you - in a really good way.

Wonderful video, Kaci! I learned what this verse actually means and I had always been confused by it. I have heard the statement that God is not like a genie in a bottle before, but then this verse was confusing for me. I also think of the verse where Jesus tells us to pray, even if our faith is as small as a mustard seed and we shall receive it. This meaning also applies to the second verse as we will receive what God wants for us and as we mature biblically, we will be getting what we want cuz we will want what God wants for us. Very enlightening!

Ah thank you for sharing this verse. I am busy working through Ps 119 - verse by verse. Yesterday I spend time in Ps 119:36. Incline my heart towards your testimonies and not to coveteousness. I come to learn the word coveteous. Therefore: Satisfy myself with God's Word ... the opposite of coveteousness🙌 This verse fit in nicely with Psalm 37:4 .... satisfy myself with God's word .... delight in His desire.

Yet the root meaning of the word "desire" means from the Father. So if you have a desire for something (no, not your neighbors wife) then according to that verse He will actually give it, else why give you the desire in the first place?

I agree of course. If a verse is in the Bible, then it means what it says, but God will also only give you those desires if it's in His will. I mean, if you're desire is to buy a new Cadillac, then don't be too surprised if He doesn't give it to you I watched an episode of Touched By An Angel one time. Monica was talking to this man who seemed to have thought God would give Him anything He wanted (I remember the episode, but not how this specific thing came about). I just remember saying to Him, "You asked for a car at the age of 8. Aren't you glad that God didn't answer that request?" So yes, God will give us the desire of our heart (obviously since it's in His Word), but we still need to be sensible in what we ask. He's not just gonna give us ANYTHING

I agree. The verse (or any verse) wouldn't be in the Bible if it didn't mean what it says. But God will only give you your desire if it's in His will. You're wrong God does not give you the desires with an "s" of your heart. There is only one desire and one only and that is for the love and mercy of God the father God the son and God the Holy Ghost. But what you miss is all the other movements of the heart besides desire. And you miss the meaning and definition and magnitude of those others in the heart. If you understood the true divine nature of the heart you would know and understand the fruits and the elements of the heart, that lead us into a holy life. The heart is your pathway to God it is the sacred Temple that God gave you to find him listen to me carefully do not look anywhere else but in the heart, the Saints of the church will teach you the mysteries of the heart. The heart is your sanctuary the body is your enemy. One of the greatest teachers of the heart is St John of the cross. There is a book you can get that has his complete works on the heart. Get it and study it. The name of the book is - the collected works of Saint John of the Cross. By kieran Kavanaugh and Otilio Rodriguez. Study this complete works. Where have I taught my worship? Where I taught the incarnation of god? Where did I teach that the holy spirit is god? Where have I taught that I am the word? Where I taught that I am the creator of all things? Where I taught that I was god and then became man? If I became a Christian, what am I going to say to him!!!? Give me proof, real and direct proof and I don't want to believe blindly.
