Microphone used to abbreviate to "mike," but we're lazy, so it's become "mic" even though that looks like it should be pronounced like "Mick." As a verb, we could have "miking" (which looks like "milking") or "micing" (which, as you point out, looks like "mice-ing"). I picked my poison. English is a funny language.
