What does it take to stop motorists (usually residents/visitors, who believe they have a god-given right to park outside their front door) from driving onto footways/cycleways and obstructing them, preventing pedestrians; people using wheelchairs/mobility aids; prams…etc:.., using them, forced to use the highways?
Is it the local Authority (Highways Department/CEOs/Councillors); Parish Councils (Councillors); vendors/estate agents who sell properties, without parking spaces? Because it certainly is not the motorists.
I have been asking for/and providing solutions for decades, but nothing good has transpired (totally ignored).
There is no alternative, now is the time to stop vehicles obstructing footways/cycleways and highways, using Legislation, for the benefit of the communities (safety and mobility).
Note this evidence, recently captured within a kilometre radius in Newbury, Berkshire. West Berkshire District Council has even painted parking spaces on the footways in Gloucester Road.
In Arthur Road and Prospect Place, the residents have commandeered the whole footway, as their private car park - how ignorant is that?
