Yes You can be snooped by your Internet Service provider, but it all depends on how you connect.

The thing with a VPN, is your VPN provider essentially becomes your ISP, in that if they want to they have the ability to see everything your ISP would see, if you were not using a VPN. Now a good VPN provider will at least claim not to keep any logs of what you're doing, but you really only have their word on that. What you should do is get a VPN provider in a country with strict privacy laws (in other words not a VPN provider headquartered in the US).

You know anything about Pi-Hole on a Raspberry Pi? I have it. My son set it up for me. It sure does a number on blocking ads. When I do a speed check from my ISP it says I have a VPN. I don't but obviously they see the Pi-Hole. If you know much about this utility maybe you could do a video on it. The ones I see on KZbin are quite complicated.

So if I use a VPN service my ISP does not see where I'm going but then my VPN service does. Why would it matter even to do that VS if I go to a unsecure website using VPN is my private information then safe, would be more practical to use VPN in this case if I'm reading this correctly.

on a trusted VPN they also do not know what you do, it is encrypted for everyone, yes a VPN adds security to unsecured websites, there are cases where you might not want your ISP to know what you do...it all depends on where you live and the possible implications of what you do online

does ISP knows what you are downloafing, if you download something through VPN on a website and then disconnect the VPN to increase the speed of the download?

I tried a free VPN powered by ip vanish and kept getting messages in Google saying I had strange internet activity.

Because you use shared ip with too much users with the same ip. 100-1000 user with the same ip, of course Google flags it. But you can already buy dedicated ip from vpn provider.

If the page is secured (meaning it has HTTPS and / or the lock symbol in the upper left hand corner) then they can't see anything, they can't hear anything, they have no clue what you are doing. They can only see the name of the website you are on, but they have zero clue what you are doing on that site (even though they can take a guess. For example, if you are on Steam, they will see you are on Steam and assume you are there to buy and play video games. However, because Steam is secured, they have ZERO clue what you are doing on Steam. You can be buying and playing some XXX adult game on Steam and the ISP will have zero clue. All they can see is the name of the website.. However, if the page is NOT secured (and says NOT secured in the upper left hand corner of the screen) then they can see everything you do on that website (like video chats or whatever else). Granted, they don't normally bother to look (so 99% chance they won't bother to see what's happening, even if the site isn't secured). Only time they investigate is if you are on an unsecured website that has has a bad reputation and has a history of controversial incidents (especially if those controversial incidents have been recent). Same goes for a secured website (all they can see is the name but if the name of that website is something that has been tied to controversial incidents, then they will investigate).
