When Sharon was still the reigning winner of RPDR and while she was doing her headlining tour promoting her win, her crown was stolen from a venue in Atlanta. Sharon made a plea on social media for the crown's return. Shortly after that Violet (pre drag race) posted a black and white photo of herself on FB, wearing only Sharon's crown. However, Violet claimed she had just tried it on for the photo, but that she didn't have the crown and that she didn't know it was Sharon's. I'm not sure of the exact details surrounding that (apparently neither is Sharon, lol) or what happened after that, except, Violet got a ton of hate. At the time it was sort of a big deal in the drag community. And it was all going on either right before or during season 5, because Absolute Vodka was still sponsoring RPDR. And Absolute ran a series of commercials promoting the season 5 finale in the style of 1940s film noir, with Michelle Visage as a detective questioning each of the top 4 season 5 queens about the stolen crown (iirc I think it was also incorporated into the final challenge, where the top 4 girls were on trial? Or something like that, I think Alaska did a Marcia Clark look? It was a long time ago, so I might be completely misremembering). Anyway alot of people thought it was just a publicity stunt for the show, or like a promotional storyline. I was really surprised when I found out that it was real. Sharon mentioned it during the closet tour she and Alaska did for Feast of Fun several years back (pre all stars, post season 5). I think Sharon even showed pieces of the broken crown. I also vaguely remember Sharon saying something about not even having all the pieces, or that she heard some people had kept some of the broken pieces as souvenirs? Anyway, that's the story (as best I can remember it).
