@@davidmartinez52420 Mmm, idk about all that. You're making a huge leap by claiming that many people actually believe they could beat an NBA player. As the OP said, when you refer to someone as trash, it's trash in relation to other people in that profession.

@@THE_BEAR_JEW I clearly stated that I agree with calling an NBA player trash should be relative to other NBA players. I've known plenty of people though that don't see it as relative to strictly NBA players but rather anyone that's ever picked up a basketball. They'll literally say things like "How did this guy even get on a college team let alone an NBA team?". Just because you might not have met people that think stupid shit like that doesn't mean those people don't exist.

in my mind, a player with a “lack of skill” is simply a player that has an over reliance on leveraging their physical gifts. shaq is an obvious example of this because his entire game revolved around simply being bigger and stronger than everyone around him. it is so clear cut and dry that shaq became even more dominant when he got fatter because good luck boxing out a 330lbs monster that was over 7’ tall. if you put shaq’s skill set into a smaller player, he pans out to be tristan thompson. if you take away kevin durants height, he still pans out to be on the level of like mitch richmond because the skills he cultivated still translate despite taking away his physical gifts. but i agree there are no NBA players that aren’t skilled and that “less skilled players” doesn’t mean that those players aren’t great for maximizing their game around their physical gifts.

I'm watching this vid about a year after its release, as the topic of "skill" has resurfaced in recent media topics concerning Kyrie and KD's "skills". The right way to approach this is to first use the term "offensive skills", and to then clearly list the skills of interest: - dribbling - shooting - post moves - footwork - passing - finishing (layups, dunks) - driving - ability to create space Also, one needs to differentiate between "being really good at one thing" and "being really good at several variations of one thing" (e.g. compare Kawhi's signature tomahawk dunk to the arsenal of dunks of a young Iguodola).

This was so great! This felt like I was listening to a philosophy course on basketball. And your point is very valid. Giannis, while being severely underdeveloped in arguably the most important skill in basketball (shooting) is still very skilled. You could be even bigger stronger and faster than Giannis and you're not going to put up 30ppg in the NBA if you're not also skilled. Giannis just focused on developing his dribbling and ability to finish at the rim because that is what his physical gifts could leverage the most. Believe it or not, but aside from fade aways, shooting benefits very little from height and raw athleticism. Like yeah being taller helps you shoot over guys like KD, but there's a reason why the best shooters at the Y are the old men with knee braces. Giannis is skilled, he's just not a skilled shooter.

Hey Rusty, love this new style of video! The format of you standing and talking in front of the camera for a deep dive is awesome :) i think the focus on quality really will be a great investment! I’m an NFL fan, so focusing on that now. But once the Super Bowl ends, I’m planning to work through the backlog of content! Havent had the chance to check yet, but I’d love to see some upcoming videos on the following topics: 1) Deep dive on LaMelo, or maybe comparing his success to Tyrese Haliburton or even Lonzo 2) the outlook for the Warriors with steph’s continued success, Wiggins’ renaissance, Kelly’s challenges, Wiseman’s development, the T-Wolves’ draft pick, and Klay (dubs fan here haha) 3) (very different) A look into how us viewers can best support your channel, esp if we’re seasonal viewers/infrequent viewers. I guess a look into how the current algorithm works (i.e. state of the algorithm?)

People saying that Giannis is unskilled. If you were in Giannis shoe's you would be no where near as good as him. He has better IQ on offense and defense thats why he is a 2x MVP
@lucasmonteiro600

Well.. skill set includes using your body at his fullest potential. Giannis may not be a guy that has a lot of handle, but he sure knows how to use his explosive and arm spawn to good use. But giannis needs a mid range, for god's sake

@@lucasmonteiro600 Whenever I hear about Giannis being "unskilled", I always take that to mean that he doesn't have a diverse or versatile offensive game, not even just 3s, but you always hear people talk about how he just runs at the basket. Whether that's true or not, that is the narrative
