@@gotquestions Wait.... hang on... This doesn't make sense to me. So when Jesus says "Why then do you accuse me of blasphemy because I said, ‘I am God’s Son’?" (the blasphemy being referred to here is the claim to being divine that's why the Jews were after him) Is he actually saying that he is a god in the same way that other magistrates hold office? Is Jesus here just outright rejecting the claim of divinity that they accuse him of? He's literally claiming innocence to their accusations (why do you accuse me of blasphemy...), then referring to the psalms version of "god" meaning a person with religious authority?? I need an answer pls. Edit: this opens a can of worms for me because if the above is true then you can out so many, I guess what you could call "contradictory" verses in the Bible. One being how he's divine, yet claimed not to know the hour? As a singular example. 2nd edit: I just had an epiphany, by quickly going through many verses in the Bible in my head, the above explanation that Jesus rejected divinity no longer poses the issue of having to explain a human being whose full God and full human at the same time? Because it feels like so many time Jesus would do things that is only befitting of a human, like cry out to the father, YET we are told he is himself divine? Halp.

@Samzz4 Your asking for help has encouraged me to respond. I''m a muslim, try to answer your question about its absurdity, but in other way. My concern is not Jesus God or not, since there's difference in Christianity itself. My concern is whether Jesus was sent to redeem humanity sins by his blood? Or other mission? *I see Jesus hung & tortured.* What will I do? *A. I am very sad.* I will take Jesus down from the cross together with mother Mary *B. I am sad but also happy,* because my sins will soon be redeemed. So, *I just watch* and let Jesus be tortured until he die with blood shed. B'coz *only through violence* & Jesus' blood I'll be saved. (If Jesus died of illness, with no blood, there wouldn't be salvation). Muslims & Mother Mary would choose A. *Jesus himself did not want to be crucified.* He was afraid, hid, told his disciples to buy swords, sad, prayed & prostrated to God. Christian will choose A or B?

@@Cashew10 The verse you omitted here though is in Luke 22:42 "Father, if you are willing, take this cup away from me. Yet not my will but yours be done." The "cup" here represents God's wrath. So yes, Jesus had to die - without death there is no resurrection. He gave up his life willingly.

Jesus is the Word of God(Firstborn Son - Son Of God) in the flesh. Salvation is received by believing the Word of God. He who believes God's Word believes God and believes in God. „For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God. The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by him we cry, “Abba, Father.” The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children. Now if we are children, then we are heirs-heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory.” (Romans 8:14-17)”But when the set time had fully come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under the law, to redeem those under the law, that we might receive adoption to sonship. Because you are his sons, God sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, the Spirit who calls out, “Abba, Father.” So you are no longer a slave, but God’s child; and since you are his child, God has made you also an heir.”(Galatians 4:4-7) „Pointing to his disciples, he said, “Here are my mother and my brothers. For whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother.”” (Matthew 12:49-50) „That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me. And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one: I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved me.” (John 17:21-23) „For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters.”(Romans 8:29)

This has helped me to better understand various parts of the Bible when reading “you are gods” or “you will become as gods”. ✝️🙏🏾❤️ I’ve seen many people across social media lead others astray by actually teaching “we are gods” as in persuading people to really believe that they have been given the power to “be” as their own gods and that since God lives within us, we have the same authority as the one true and living GOD. I never considered myself a “god/a goddesses” because that’s a very bold, prideful, arrogant and foolish claim to make of one’s self!! We should never see ourselves as a superior God over anyone without understanding the full extent of what that really means and knowing full and well that “The Most High God” is ultimately commander and chief over all mankind (period)!!!

You are a god, created in Gods image. You are not a god over anyone. Jesus told us if we have faith the size of a mustard seed we could tell a mountain to move and it would. You lack faith. Jesus came and showed us the way. In Mathew he sends his disciples out to heal!! If you think The Most High God would consider you walking in your purpose as His is blaspheme you may want to pray for understanding. Being truly humble is knowing who you are in God and not abusing that power not making yourself small and insignificant. Meditate on Gods word.

Morphologically, the word is the plural form of the word eloah and related to el. It is cognate to the word 'l-h-m which is found in Ugaritic, where it is used as the pantheon for Canaanite gods, the children of El, and conventionally vocalized as "Elohim".

No, at no instance the word "elohim" refers to any human at any position of power. It strictly belongs to the divine/ unseen realm and is reserved for beings of that realm, from the Most High (Yahweh is Elohim, but no elohim is like Yahweh). The Moses example you mention is simply a comparison to convey the importance of Moses' role and action. It should not be mixed with Jesus' use of the word which in fact refers to His followers, us believers in the Son of God once we have passed onto the eternal realm.
@deanfry879
@deanfry879 Жыл бұрын
The comparison of the importance of Moses' role and action is exactly the point. Those who are called as judges are appointed by God to dispense the very judgments of God (see Romans 13:1-7). This is why the judges are warned to judge justly. This is why they will die like mere humans.
@KeysmanJax
@KeysmanJax Жыл бұрын
Psalm 82:6 and Romans 13:1-7 have nothing in common in the "elohim" context - the latter are not elohim but the former are because they are sons of God, they are of the divine family of God. It is exactly because of their wrong behavior toward their appointed nations that God threatens to demote them to the rank of mere human mortals and reclaim the inheritance of all nations. The context of Romans 13:1-7 has nothing to do with all of this.
@deanfry879
@deanfry879 Жыл бұрын
Amen. There are several Scriptures where the appointed judges are told they are somehow making the very judgments of God, so are told they must give care to their work. That such people would be called elohim and die like mere humans makes great sense.

You are completely wrong, H430 Elohim is (OF God), not the Almighty H410, EL. Elohim is used in Genesis1 to show that it was Lucifer who was deputized to build this place under Gods authority. This is where and when Satan fell! Gen1:26 Elohim created man in their image H6754 means to shade, a phantom, an illusion, resemblance:a representative figure, especially an Idol, vain shew. Why would the Almighty God create that??????? Gen2:1 Host is H6635 an army, mass of persons especially organized for war!!!! Gen2:2 work is H4399 properly Deputyship, generally employment or work. In Enoch 200 Angels fell, they are the ones who were deputized by the Lord God to build this place but Satan rebeled and they created man( giants, Titans) in their image. Evidence of their existence is all over the earth. Genesis 2:4 is the Lord H3068 God the self existent eternal yehovah, The Lord God formed the first man Adam, chapter 2 is the Lord God, where as chapter 1 is lucifers fall Elohim. We are light beings, angels (John 10: 34-36) who were deceived (one third) and fell to earth and kept in our chains of ligaments, our prison is our host body. To become free from bondage and return home Jesus said you must be born again! Live out your life as exiles because we are not of this place, 1 Peter 2:11. The earth is Satans kingdom, they are the builders who rejected the stone, Jesus! Psalm 118:22. Our pride blinds us all to the truth. the Bible is slowly changing supernaturally even now as you can see from Isaiah 11:6 no longer does it say lion but wolf. And verily verily has been removed from Mathew, Mark and Luke, only John has verily verily and I wonder for how long! I know for a fact that my KJV has changed supernaturally. . He judges among the gods: God’s standing in the midst of these mighty ones is to bring judgment among them. The word gods here is Elohim, the plural for the generic word for god in Hebrew. The idea of God judging gods has led to several suggestions regarding the identity of these elohim, these gods. · Elohim is often used to describe the true God, Yahweh. It is in the plural to describe both the majesty of His person, and to be a hint of the triune nature of God, being One God in Three Persons. · Elohim is sometimes used as the plural of pagan deities, the false gods of the nations. · Elohim is sometimes used in reference to angelic beings. · Elohim is here best taken as a reference to human judges, who stand in the place of God in their ability to determine the fate of others. i. “Gathered around Him is an assembly of judges who are called elohim, because they are His delegates; they administer His will; they are His executive agents.” (Morgan) ii. “The judges and magistrates are compared in this psalm to God, because they exercise something of His power in the right ordering of human society.” (Meyer) iii. Martin Luther “Pointed out that Psalm 82:1, 6 both establishes and limits the authority of princes. It establishes it, because it is God who appoints the authorities; it is he who calls them ‘gods.’ It limits their authority because they are accountable to him, as the psalm shows.” (Boice) iv. “Earthly judicatories are the appointment of God. All magistrates act in his name, and by virtue of his commission. He is invisibly present at their assemblies, and superintends their proceedings. He receives appeals from their wrongful decisions; he will one day re-hear all causes at his own tribunal, and reverse every iniquitous sentence, before the great congregation of men and angels.” (Horne) v. “Our Lord’s reference to Psalms 82:6 in John 10:34-38 is, by the present writer, accepted as authoritatively settling both the meaning and the ground of the remarkable name of ‘gods’ for human judges.” (Maclaren)

Peace, Great explanation brother. To add more Exodus 4:16 He will speak to the people for you, and it will be as if he were your mouth and as if you were God to him. Exodus 7:1 The LORD answered Moses, "See, I have made you like God to Pharaoh, and your brother Aaron will be your prophet. Zechariah 12:8 On that day the LORD will shield those who live in Jerusalem, so that the feeblest among them will be like David, and the house of David will be like God, like the angel of the LORD going before them. Prophets and Kings are given as an example like God for they too are chosen by God to lead people to do the will of God. When a Prophet speaks, he speaks the word of God. God has spoken through the prophet, not the prophet speaking on his own accord. Humans are not gods, but sometimes these examples are given to show the authority God has given to His chosen people like King David and Prophet Moses. Praise be to Almighty God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.

If the gods of Psalm 82 are simply human magistrates, Jesus' argument using that psalm to emphasize his divinity would be without foundation. It is as if Jesus had told the Jews in the temple at that moment that if they had been called gods in the Old Testament, why couldn't he be called the same? But they understood that Jesus was posing as not a simple judge or magistrate, he was telling them that he was God himself. An error is made in interpreting the phrase "I said, you are gods" in John 10:34 as if God were speaking to people like those Jesus was speaking to, but the text specifically says "Jesus answered, "Is it not written in your law, 'I said, you are gods'? John 10:34 (NRSVA). That "you are gods" is what Psalm 82:6 literally says, referring to the gods of Psalm 82:1, not people like the Jews Jesus was talking to. Psalm 82 is based on the reality of the divine council also called the sons of God or sons of the Most High. That expression never refers to the human magistrates of all the earth. In that case, it would be meaningless for them to be condemned to die like men, which would be a pleonasm. Finally, Psalm 82 is a judgment that has Deuteronomy 32:8-9 as its context, whose most faithful translation is the one that agrees with the findings in the Dead Sea Scrolls and that is reflected in translations such as the ESV: "When the Most High gave to the nations their inheritance from him, when he divided mankind, he fixed the borders of the peoples according to the number of the sons of God." Deuteronomy 32:8 (ESV)

Unfortunately, since my previous comment was deleted, I will just say the following: This is NOT the correct interpretation of Psalm 82, and I strongly encourage all of you, fellow brothers and sisters in Christ, to study these passages yourself with a much deeper dive. I encourage you to let the Bible simply say what it says because God's word speaks for itself. This means we all must do our best to strip ourselves of our modern-day contexts to apply the Biblical contexts of the ancient Israelites. The Bible is too important for us to read/study it through theological or denominational filters. We make ourselves vulnerable in apologetics if we're not careful...

Thank you for your teaching on Psalm 82 it was very enlightening. However I should mention that you were incorrect when you said that Satan told the woman a half truth in the following verse. Gen 3:5 "For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil." We know this because God himself validated the truth of this statement in the following verse. Gen 3:22 And the LORD God said, "The man has now become like one of us, knowing good and evil. ........." The Paradox is that when man ate of the forbidden fruit they acquired an attribute that God had namely the ability to distinguish between Good and Evil or right from wrong. That Is Why theologians call the age that followed the age of conscience. Shalom.

Hello I have always considered Psalm 82 to be a rebuke of the Jewish religious leaders that had the power of life or death over the people. They had the word of God and Levitical law but abused their authority and killed the Prophets. That is what is so significant of Jesus bringing this passage up to Scribes, Pharisees Hypocrites that were trying to stone Him because He said He was the son of God.
@simonline1194
@simonline1194 Жыл бұрын
Clearly, this guy has no idea what he is saying. Ps.82 is referring to YHWH judging the members of his Divine Council. If YHWH is judging human magistrates/judges then why does YHWH declare that ‘I said “You are gods” you are all sons of the Most High’ but you will die like mere men, you will fall like every other ruler.’ (vv.6-7) since, as sinful human creatures that would be a given for every human since the Fall?! This would only be pertinent if those to whom YHWH was speaking were fellow elohim who were normally immortal? Ps.89:5 ‘The heavens praise your wonders O Lord, your faithfulness too in the assembly of the holy ones. FOR WHO, IN THE SKIES ABOVE, can compare with the LORD? Who is like the LORD AMONG THE HEAVENLY BEINGS? In the council of the holy ones God is greatly feared; He is more awesome THAN ALL WHO SURROUND HIM.’?! Elohim = spirit beings (plural) and this is used of YHWH because, unlike every other finite creature who is incapable of existing as anything other than mono-personal, YHWH Exists as Tri-Personal - Father, Son and Holy Spirit. This blatant refusal to allow the Bible to speak for itself on its own terms is eisegesis (reading into the Bible what we want it to say) rather than exegesis (read from the Bible what it actually says/reveals)?! Be wary of those who are indoctrinating you rather than discipling you?! Simonline 🤔🙏😀👍

Folks get a Bad interpretation of the word 'god' with a small 'g'. The Bible verse and explanation does NOT take an hour to understand. It's very easy to understand. Psalm 82:6 reads, “I said, ‘You are “gods”; you are all sons of the Most High.’ But you will die like mere mortals; you will fall like every other ruler.” The “gods” of Psalm 82 are human magistrates, judges, and rulers who have been granted authority in the earth. In this view, the whole point of Psalm 82 is that earthly judges must act with impartiality and true justice, because even judges must stand someday before the Judge. Psalm 82:6 and 7 warn human magistrates that they, too, must be judged: “I said, ‘You are gods; you are all sons of the Most High.’ But you will die like mere men; you will fall like every other ruler.” According to this view, God has appointed men to positions of authority in which they are considered as gods among the people (see Exodus 7:1). Calling a human magistrate a “god” indicates three things: 1) he has authority over other human beings, 2) the power he wields as a civil authority is to be feared, and 3) he derives his power and authority from God Himself, who is pictured as judging the whole earth in Psalm 82:8. Human rulers are to remember that, even though they are representing God in this world, they are mortal and must eventually give an account to God for how they use that authority.

Most Protestants have forgotten the constant and ancient teaching of Divinization. Even most Catholics don't know it despite the Church (along with the Orthodox Churches) teaching it. This is taught clearly by Augustine, Athanasius and Irenaeus and goes back pretty clearly to St. John the Evangelist (and consequently Christ) himself. That we do truly become gods through Christ as they teach does not mean we are (or even will be) equal to God or worthy of worship, but what we will become is like God, for we will see Him as He is.

The only real difference between God and humans as God intended them is self-existence, God has it and humans do not.

We are becoming co-regents with God. This was God’s purpose from the beginning. To be made in the image of God is to be a fellow regent with God. Just as God established His Divine Council as being made in His image (to co-rule the spiritual realm) so God has made humans in His image to co-rule the physical realm (Gen.1:26-27 - contrary to popular misconception, God does not communicate with Himself through finite language (?!), which is for communicating with and between finite creatures). God intends for human believers to become part of the Divine Council - one family, elohim and humans together as both realms are eventually merged back into one as the Kingdom is finally consummated. @@deanfry879 I think there are other differences as well? Apart from Self-Existence finite human creatures will NEVER be ‘the same’ as God though we will be part of God’s adopted family. Simonline 😀👍

He really doesn’t explain Jesus or the prophet Asaph in his explanation. Also seems like the Heiserites in the comment section are flipping out, guess what Heiser was WRONG. I’ll post a response for the video and directed towards Heiser’s False teaching of Psalm 82. Jesus holds the answer and explains of the "gods/elohim" of Psalm 82 in John 10. Reason why Jesus fulfills the words of the prophets in the OT in the NT. Jesus fullfills the words of the OT in the NT. Depends if a person beleives in the Trinity. Israel are the "gods" in Psalm 82, the "gods" are human NOT nonhuman like this Heiser guy promoted. Israel was unique from the pagan nations that surrounded them, Israel had the law of God, 10 commandment, prophets and a Levitical priesthood. Since Israel had the law of God, it put Israel in the position of being "gods," becuase God chose them, Israel was God's chosen people. Psalm 82:6 I said, “You are gods, sons of the Most High, all of you; John 10: 34-35 Jesus answered them, “Is it not written in your law, ‘I said, “You are gods” ’? 35 If He called them gods, to whom the word of God came (and the Scripture cannot be broken)," 1. >>>>"I said, “You are gods” >>>>>ONCE by the God (Father) in Psalm 82. Aspaph is the Author and Psalmist of Psalm 82. Prophets of the Old Testament like Asaph the "word of the Lord" would come to Prophets like Asaph. Prophets were the "Voice" of God. God (Father) would communicate His words through the prophets, God does that here in Psalm 82:6 I said, “You are gods, sons of the Most High, all of you;">>>>>>>>Israel, Psalm 82 uses the word "all". This clearly is not about a bunch of watchers/super angels of a divine council. The Psalms were written to and for Israel. 2. SECOND time Jesus in John 10: 34 Repeats >>>> ‘I said, “You are gods”

This is wrong, the gods are angelic beings who rebelled against Yahweh. i.e., "the god of this world has blinded the minds of those who do not believe". In Hebrew it would not make grammatical sense for elohim to die like men. Also God does not have a divine council (a more accurate translation of "el adat") of humans. I appreciate the thought but it is not coherant and thought through, I'm not sure the Hebrew text was consulted at all. This is much more coherant with Psalm 87, 1 Kings 22, Isaiah 6, etc. Not to mention Deuteronomy 82 is the Dead Sea Scroll and Septuigiant (almost certain the original text).

Jesus holds the answer of the gods/elohim of Psalm 82 in John 10. The gods/elohim of Psalm 82 have never been non human/spirit beings/angels. Israel are the "gods" in Psalm 82, the "gods" are human NOT nonhuman meaning angels/spirit beings. Israel was unique from the pagan nations that surrounded them, Israel had the law of God, 10 commandment, prophets and a Levitical priesthood. Since Israel had the law of God, it put Israel in the position of being "gods," (elohim), because God chose them, Israel was God's chosen people. They were chosen because of Christ. SECOND time Jesus in John 10: 34 Repeats >>>> ‘I said, “You are gods” >>> Exodus 4:22 You are to say to Pharaoh, ‘This is what the Lord says: “Israel is my firstborn son." If you know your bible Jacob is Israel and there would be 12 sons borns to Jacob, which make up the 12 tribes of Israel. When a person reads Psalm 82:6 when it mentions "sons" it is referring to the 12 tribes of Israel in the physical world. In reality what a person can get from scripture is that Jesus tells us who the "gods/elohim" are in Psalm 82 when we read John 10 34-35. Jesus is the One who fulfills the words of the prophets from the OT in the NT, that is why Jesus REPEATED the exact words " I said, “You are gods, from Psalm 82 (God/Father) in John 10 (God/Son). The gods/elohim/divine council in Psalm 82 are not disembodied spirits, angelic or nonhuman spirit beings, they are Israel, all of Israel (Jacob's descendents) would be human, which includes judges, elders, rulers, kings, and the common Isrealite citizen.

First you need to understand what happen in Genesis 6 and what the Hebrew people knew about the gods of old. They were not earthly people but the angels that mingle themselves with the woman. The whole psalm 82 is God passing judgement on the 70 angels that He appointed to guide the nations after the Tower of Babel that is why God said you are gods but will die as man.

It’s not clear that “gods” means magistrates at all because it doesn’t. It means gods. Jesus knew that which is why he refers to Psalms 82 in John 10. These so called Christians are afraid of the actual truth in case it gives any credence to LDS teachings. What a convoluted load of nonsense he’s spouting.

We Christians can believe this and not the LDS teachings. In the king fallet discourse Joseph Smith says that God the Father was once a created man on another planet. I’m guessing he was created by another capital G God? If not then you would be saying that a capital G God was created by a lower case g god? Joseph Smith taught that there are many capital G Gods out there. God says in the Bible “before me no God was formed, nor shall there be after me. I am the first and the last, beside me there is no God.

@@user-qp8ln2yt8r Believing in Christ will come with suffering and condemnation in this fallen world. Jesus said if the world hates you, remember it hated me first. When we are born again and put our faith in Christ we are joined together with him. His righteousness is granted to us and we can therefore be sanctified with Christ because of his finished work on the cross. God has made each person who trusts in Christ a heir to all the glories of God's kingdom. Isaiah 9:6 proves the trinity and that Jesus is the one true eternal God.
