This is the only video that answers what it does and what it's for. Thanks for sharing your lab results.

THANK VERY MUCH! I was wondering what that power kit does! The Ring doorbell also has this too. So it's basically a capacitor! That makes sense. Stores just enough power for the doorbell to briefly ring the chime without relying on the transformer for all of it. FYI, the doorbell itself has a small lithium ion rechargeable battery that keeps the doorbell running for that brief moment it shorts the wire to make the doorbell chime. Once that battery dies, you're relying solely on the power kit (or capacitor) to keep the doorbell powered up. With a dead battery, it becomes more important you're using the upper limit of the recommended voltage range, which I believe is 24V AC to keep the voltage from dropping too far so the doorbell doesn't reboot.

I think as others have observed you over simplify what you think this box does. I think what would make sense is that the the nest door bell need power to stay charged therefore the supply voltage is a closed circuit making it continually powered to keep the battery charged this mean when in steady state the NC relay is kept open (powered on) and the chime sees no voltage. when you ring the doorbell the circuit breaks the supply voltage the relay goes to the closed position and capacitive power is feed to the chime to make it ring. My issue is the door bell ring is very weak - Im not certain if its because I have a 16v power supply and this doflicky box doesnt have enough juice to activate the relay - so im going to up it to a 24vAC transformer. Ive also read the the doorbell deactivates the chime when it is at an extreme temperature. Ive also read that if there is no wifi connection the physical chime doesnt ring.. this is bizarre as the primary function of this is to ring the damned doorbell so you know your amazon package has arrived - there is no reason why the physical ctt shouldn't work without wifi. More failure mode testing i think

It is not a capacitor, I opened its a normally closed relay

Thank you for this video. I left my Nest Chime Connector (capacitor or what you call a power kit) connected at my old house and Google does not carry replacement parts.. So I'm thinking of buying a Newhouse Hardware 30TR 16V 30VA Doorbell Transformer and wondering if that would work without the power kit?

You can purchase from ebay

@@corina6772 He didn't ask where to buy it. He said he is thinking of buying it and if it will work. Do you have an actual answer to the question? I'd also like to know the answer and since you are quick to spout off, what's the answer, chief?

I have the Lorex 2k video doorbell, and it has a power kit as well but it is can barely cycle the doorbell. Lorex level 3 tech support team things I need to try a new chime, sounds like guess and check. Any idea how else I should debug?

Great video! Thank you! Does it matter what way round the cables go into the power kit?

Where do I find the power kit? I've googled it (ironic I realize) and all that comes up are power cord adaptors.

Do u know what the voltage is at the chime with the nest hello connected along with the power kit? I am trying to trouble shoot my chime and when I tested the voltage at the chime box, it was reading less than 1 volt. When I removed the power kit, it reads 21 volts. Was not sure if the power kit was bad or not.

I think chimes are 16v max. Is this a concern with the higher voltage transformer?

You can use a 16v 30va transformer. Check out this video kzbin.info/www/bejne/h4ayaKKVq9d4g9k

I got the nest door bell, didn’t came with this chime adaptor, so now si fully functioning, but when the doorbell ring, it sounds twice with a little delay, a crack sounds, and not as get used to, any recommendations on how to fix this problem? I saw another video someone put 1/2 watt resistors between trans and front. Seems to work, but someone else mention could be fire hazard. Do you have information regarding this solution? Thank you!
