What does “the stone that the builders rejected” mean? (

The way I interpreted this phrase which is repeated often in the Old and New Testament ( I believe 6 times and when a teacher keeps repeating a phase it is well for the student to take note because the teacher is saying was this is important and will be on the next test) that the Jews would not recognize Jesus Christ as the mesiah. They rejected him and afterwards he becomes the foundation of a new religion known as Christianity and his sayings are the foundation of the Christianity. Everything in Christianity rests on his sayings and actions he did. I taught an adult Anglican Christian Class on this idea and to me it is one of the key concepts of the New Testament.

In Matthew 10:34 Jesus said “Think not that I am come to send peace on earth. I came not to send peace, but a sword.” Which showed me that Jesus will fulfill his purpose as the descendant of David, still arriving with a sword but in a manner that the Pharisees reject
