Hi team , I want to do MBA from institute like IIM, XLRI but honestly i have a bad academic record and also gap between studies . Now my question is that "what's the chance that if i get the required CAT rank to get into these premier institution , will i get admission?", as i have heard that to get into these premier institute your acaedmic record is given considerable weightage, Is it true?

Depends on the college. Not every college gives weightage to earlier academics. They might have some criteria like 60% in graduation or XII but not for actual conversion. And depends on your category. To get a call from them.

If u hav good work experience,your academics will not consider more as u have practical knowledge,and interview will also be based on your experience at work not on Ur academics. Greater work experience=less no.of questions asked abt Ur academics

@Lonepiggy In XLRI there is comparatively less weightage to your past academics as compared to the IIM ABC( CAT). Let’s say, In CAT you got 95 percentile then with these acads you can easily expect calls from the top IIMs (now whether you can convert these calls or not will majorily depend on your interview skills), while a guy with bad academics scoring same percentile will have less chances for getting as many calls. On the other hand in XLRI, the more weightage is given to the GK section marks of XAT for the shortlisting of candidates for final admission. Here your excellence in past acads will not play that much big role as compared to CAT. Note:- GK section marks are not considered while counting overall percentile. also I think except XLRI now there’s no other college considering GK section for the final selection of candidate.

@lonepiggi For XLRI the cuttoff for this year will be most likely to be same as I mentioned before.. From other XAT colleges you can expect call at 3 to 4 percentile less from normal cuttoff with these acads.
